Am I missing something? Great news regarding Eze but how does that solve the problem regarding Kai’s injury? Depending on severity we need cover as if Viktor gets injured who plays? Unless Martinelli is set to cover playing centrally! At least he won’t have to worry about defending Certainly explains Tross situation. Or as we are bringing in Gooners to the club maybe Watkins as Villa interested in Jackson apparently! If Kai is out for a short time then sure we will use viktor and cover with Martinelli/ Tross/ Merino COYG.

From what I’ve seen merino isn’t an upgrade on Partey. Any CMs Eds you’d be looking at that’s up for potential grabs or you like the look of merino?
{Ed014's Note - I’d never heard of Merino prior to the Euros and never watched him there either.
Ugarte was supposed to be the dogs but looks like PSG are trying to off load him, have to ask why. Think Utd are looking at him to replace Casimero, but let’s be honest, any elderly lady would be better than that lump.
I liked the look of Wharton at Palace from what little I’d seen of him.
That aside no real idea mate, who do you like the look of?

Well Ed I think the player I think Arteta could coach to be a worldy that would fit into the quality of squad we have is Mainoo not that we could get him. But he’s the kind of player. I always thought Kimmich could be an interesting one but I’ve seen you mention about his high wage and he looks maybe city bound if he moves?

Kimmich would definitely want big money and at 29 doesn’t have much of a shelf life.
I’m sure Arteta has someone in mind so it’s just a bit of wait and see unfortunately.

Ed do you think though with Saudi buying players of all ages, teams will be thinking it’s now a possibility to get your money atleast back if you can get a quality player relatively cheap for the individual market valuation even if they’re on the older side of 20s?
{Ed014's Note - it’s possible mate but I don’t think things are going quite as swimmingly as the Saudis hoped and maybe the crazy money signings will drop off.
The other thing with Kimmich is how he’d affect the wage structure. There also doesn’t seem to be a mass of clubs looking to sign him.

I've taken it DG as putting football into perspective. He won a worldwide humanitarian award (Socrates Award) for lots of work he does behind the scenes in London and Africa. Sort of stuff includes funding a sight giving project etc.
What I like is he doesn't blab it all over social media apparently but i wouldn't know as not on it. Whether he's in form or rubbish or in between he's a decent human being COYG All good here and trust the same with you DG.

Hi Kent, I think our style has a lot to do with it plus his touch isn't good and the time he needs on the ball just isn't available at Premier League level.
I heard a Hull player saying that the biggest difference he'd found in the Premier League compared to the Championship is how little time you have in the final third of the pitch and I think this could be a big part of Viktors struggles too.

Think you are probably right 62. The EPL is shockingly fast, TV doesn't do it any justice. The space in the final third is minimal. I believe there's an element of tactics plus when he comes on he has then team supporting him. Many things not helping but ultimately his shortcomings are getting exposed & we will need an upgrade.
However, he's still a decent player & more than capable of finding the back of the net - sure he will go on a bit of a run if he starts and we get the ball forward a bit quicker. To be fair - Eze has been poor too.

Hi SY mate. Viktor looks less of a fit this season than he did last season, for me at least.
I think we'd have all loved him to have been the goal machine for us that he was for Porto but that's looking less and less likely to happen unfortunately.
As we all know Football is played more in the head than with the feet and Viktor doesn't appear to have the quick thinking football brain to compensate for his very heavy touch.

I've got to say the Vik bashing is a hard read, yes we all wanted him to bang in 30+ goals last season but it was his first season with our team and he DID end up our top goalscorer, we didn't sign a dud, he was Europe's top goalscorer when we signed him (I think) . The problem is we don't give him enough service, he makes runs in behind (which we've all been craving for from our striker for a while now) the pass is ignored, crosses into the box, ignored n decide to go sideways.
Maybe he doesn't fit I think you can't sign Europe's top gs n not give him the service needed. The boy scores for fun.

Hi Jegooner, hope you are well. Not sure that's a bashing & I won't take that as an invite. I've said he's decent, our style doesn't help but he's not at top EPL standard. I know a few people who watched him before we signed him & said he was not the guy we should have signed as doesn't quite have it - the touch, speed, speed of thought and agility. He's clearly a decent striker but not a top EPL striker. He's clearly doesn't score for fun and his record against big teams shows that & he doesn't attack the goal enough.
I'm sure he will do a great job in a slower league or a team that plays to his strengths more. How does he compare to Anelka, Wright, Cole, Campbell, Henry, Giroud, RVP, Aubameyang? Neither him or Kai are there but Kai offers work, press & intelugence. We can't have Kai & Vik, not at the level I expect anyway. Doesn't mean Vic doesn't try or is useless.

Hi Jegooner, it wasn't my intention to bash Viktor, I like him, he's ours and he's not a lemon. MA wants to play a certain way and Amorim and Potter wanted / want a different style of play that more suited Viktor. They play to feed him, MA 's style means he prefers Kai so we let in less and defend in numbers.
Hopefully he comes back full of confidence and starts a run of goals and becomes undroppable. Merino will get minutes up front too and he knows where the onion bag is. Last season we all bemoaned not having a striker and if we did we'd win the league. We bought one and we did. Still CHAMPIONS COYG.

Hi all, appreciate the reply's and difference in opinions, firstly just want to say I wasn't talking just about this thread regarding the bashing I've read about Vik, there's been a few and again it's a differ of opinions n all count. I see where your coming from in that he could be a different beast in a slower league (that's obviously been proven in the Portuguese league) with that he did score a bag full of goals in the champions league with Sporting Lisbon too, pretty sure he got a hatty against city playing in that campaign. I do certainly agree our style doesn't suit him, he acts on impulse n runs in behind but we don't seem to put the ball into the box ) we walk it in or go sideways) and we also never seem to play that threaded pass through the lines in behind (which we have the players with the intelligence n class to do just that) . Our playing style definitely hinders him, for me his work rate is right up there, the boy doesn't stop chasing down and making runs.
Like you said Sussex I hope he brings that confidence he's built scoring n playing for Sweden back home to us n kicks on.
I am struggling to think of a striker that would be an upgrade when he's had one season with us n in our league n won the league first season n ended up our top scorer in said campaign.
Would love your thought on who that could be n why.
So glad international games are finished n we're back to watching The Arsenal Leeds tomorrow let's get them 3 points!

You are totally right. We haven't suited him at all. It's gutting for him if he comes off and then the sub scores or what ever. But I really think if Bruno gets a run of games with vik up front. Bruno is used to a striker like vik and with his passing ability and vision, I recon that could be interesting.

Go on then I'll go first. All over Napoli, excellent professional performance. Had Saka, Merino, Hincapie, Noni and Tzolis scored easyish chances, it would have been an easier night. Viktor and Kai not missing chances, but worry Viktor nowhere to be seen. Salba is a legend, but boy doesn't Konza look good. Pound for pound best buy of window imo (early days obviously) . COYG.

It was a good performance against a low-block Italian side, and we managed to create many chances, but failed to take most of them. But 3 points, on to the next game.
Viktor was never in the game; there was hardly any service, and it feels like the players don't want to play to his strengths.
A win away in Italy is all that matters, though, as we have a slightly tougher set of fixtures in the league this season.

We definitely do not play to his strengths. If he produces 20 goals again this season, and with the other goals coming from across the park, I'd be ok with it.
With Arsenal, there is no telling where the goals will come from.
Our midfield is just so strong. Timber and Fury are a frightening prospect for any team in world football, with Saka and Tzolis interchanging.
So excited to see our full-strength team out.

It was not long ago we were all saying the same thing about Kai. Some called him a donkey. Some called for Arteta to be sacked for bringing him in. The same with Raya replacing Ramsdale. We are too quick to jump down the firing line. Give the lad time to play and adapt. At first, he scored more than I anticipated. Currently, he has had very little game time, and the team is still adapting. The beauty of our team is we are not depending on one player to bring the goals in.
Give it time, and Victor will become victorious. Just look at teams who go down the hire-and-fire route. We are in a great position; trust the process, and watch us eclipse the Fergie era and the Liverpool era. Looking at our team, management, and fans, we are in a very strong position. Let the people that are paid very well do their job n let us do ours. Enjoy the games n support the team, be that extra man on the pitch.

Just think Viktor knows where the goal is, but against Napoli he was not on the end of anything. However, it was his first start. He will score and play his part. The worry was he wasn't missing them by being in the right place.
Is it blind faith? Who knows? But, at this point, we have who we have, and we are currently top and undefeated and looking quite good, so I'm happy COYG.

G4E, you could argue we aren't reliant on one person because we don't have a world class striker. Until then, I have to be content with Kai, who will work hard & press, which the manager likes, but will slow us down, miss chances and not do what a striker does. At least he has a good football brain. I struggle when that's our Plan A. Our Plan B is even worse, as he offers less & doesn't trouble top top teams.
We need a cutting edge, and those two aren't it. Sorry to be negative. We are where we are, and I will get on with it. However, the sane people will praise Noni, who lacks end product. Our signings are still a bit poor, we have an amazing squad, but we need a slight upgrade in the starting 11, namely the attack. Our attack is nowhere near as good as our defence. Do you not agree? If you do, then what?

I don't disagree with wanting better signings. If we didn't look to improve, and stood still, that would be the same as going backwards. What I do have a problem with is this instant success some of us look to get, and the fire and fire mentality. If a change is made, give it time to bed in, work the system, and then adjust. If a player is bought on a multiple year contract, don't get the knives out after season one.
This window, we all saw us being linked to players who turned us down. The day is on where players of a very high calibre will be knocking Berta's door for him to sign them. It's coming, boys. It's not going to be easy, and it won't happen overnight, but we are almost there.
Stay together, stick to the process. F*** the others. It's all about us, and we are the champions, and will remain for a long time to come.

We also saw us dither, G4E. The boss clearly identified areas & we dithered & got distracted while others added/secured good attacking options all across Europe.

We are in rarefied company when discussing transfers and players who will improve us. I got caught up ridiculously in what we were doing but am now trying to reflect on it sanely. Were we looking at LW with red tinted specs? Tsolis has been seen as an upgrade on Tross so the real issue is covering Martinelli, which I called a dereliction of duty if we didn't replace. What? One goal in Prem over 30 appearances. We have players to cover RW and LW - Eze Saka, Max, Tsolis, Noni - Five players for 2 starting places. Weakest link there is Noni but I'm sure he can score more than one goal in 30 appearances at LW. I get the we need an elite CF but none available realistically. We did quite well with Kai and Viktor last season and Kai was injured for most of it! One season in Viktor has to (I think he will) improve.
Our quality and strength in depth for midfield and defence is outstanding - think Timber and Saliba (2 of our very best) to come back too! My laboured waffly point being is I think the mentioned Eze Noni and Tsolis can cover the one goal (7 if you include Tross' goals) Martinelli scored with the added bonus Max can get more minutes covering Saka. Get the youngsters working ;) Other teams have improved but it is hard to win the Prem as everyone kept telling us but we know how to do it! For those worrying about LW maybe we are waiting on Yildiz / Kroupi in January. Who knows but nailing my colours to the mast I'm relaxed / confident we will be there or there abouts again in Prem and CL. That may not be good enough for some but winning the Prem or CL is pretty hard to do COYG.
