Big Rumours Max has signed scholarship terms! Nice to see him MLS Nwaneri trusting if good enough they’ll play! Unlike others who jumped elsewhere COYG.

Am I missing something? Great news regarding Eze but how does that solve the problem regarding Kai’s injury? Depending on severity we need cover as if Viktor gets injured who plays? Unless Martinelli is set to cover playing centrally! At least he won’t have to worry about defending Certainly explains Tross situation. Or as we are bringing in Gooners to the club maybe Watkins as Villa interested in Jackson apparently! If Kai is out for a short time then sure we will use viktor and cover with Martinelli/ Tross/ Merino COYG.

Don’t worry great transfer incoming.

2.) 21 Aug 2025 10:46:08
I think you're right that the cover will be trossard/ merino and maybe martenelli if desperate. It makes sense as if we got another cf in then we'd have gyokores and the new cf with havertz and jesus to return. Seems too stacked for one position.

3.) 21 Aug 2025 14:27:10
Sammy the only ‘Great’ transfer to cover CF is surely Mr Isak . Am I close to? I am holding you personally responsible if we don’t get a great incoming transfer ??? COYG.

4.) 21 Aug 2025 16:14:16
I wonder whether we might see Nwaneri play as a false 9 as well. Arteta has talked about it and Eze plays in the same position Nwaneri does, so it could be a thing. Guess we'll see.

5.) 23 Aug 2025 00:55:12
I know I'm dreaming, but if liverpool upset Newcastle and Newcastle are forced to sell elsewhere for a lower price something could be done.

6.) 24 Aug 2025 21:15:37
We are a wealthy club we can afford one more great signing. Isak is an issue because we may compete against Liverpool but there could be a spite sale. Rodrygo looks to be our big target…. now him saka and chunky viktor wow.

29 Aug 2024 16:25:44
Hi Ed002 hope you`re well. You said a while ago Arsenal were in for Ivan Toney if the price reduced. Is this still the case or as you like to say have we moved on? Thanks in advance COYG.

SUSSEX AFC

{Ed002's Note - I understand that efforts are being made still to take Toney to Saudi.}

1.) 29 Aug 2024 18:45:02
Hi ed002, you mentioned on the europe page before that Arsenal were likely bidders for Gyokeres. Is that unlikely as we near the end of the window.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure I said likely bidders but it would take a single payment of €100M now and the player to agree. There may be an offer from elsewhere tomorrow but suspect Arsenal will step away at that price.}

26 Jul 2024 10:19:27
Hi Eds hope you are all well. Is there any interest in Thomas Partey as he enters the last year of his contract? Seems we are looking to upgrade him and just wanting to know if he`s aiming to run his contract down. Thanks in advance.

SUSSEX AFC

{Ed002's Note - There has been interest from Turkey and the Middle East but he wants to see his contract out. Arsenal want him moved on.}

1.) 26 Jul 2024 14:05:30
Thanks Ed002, frustrating for the club I guess but if ( a big if ) he stays fit for the season he is a big asset. Much appreciated COYG.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

2.) 28 Jul 2024 16:35:50
From what I’ve seen merino isn’t an upgrade on Partey. Any CMs Eds you’d be looking at that’s up for potential grabs or you like the look of merino?

{Ed014's Note - I’d never heard of Merino prior to the Euros and never watched him there either.

Ugarte was supposed to be the dogs but looks like PSG are trying to off load him, have to ask why. Think Utd are looking at him to replace Casimero, but let’s be honest, any elderly lady would be better than that lump.

I liked the look of Wharton at Palace from what little I’d seen of him.

That aside no real idea mate, who do you like the look of?

3.) 28 Jul 2024 18:25:21
Wharton would be a great signing but I think Palace would want stupid money for him. I’ve seen Ruiz linked with us which could be a good signing.

4.) 29 Jul 2024 03:15:05
Well Ed I think the player I think Arteta could coach to be a worldy that would fit into the quality of squad we have is Mainoo not that we could get him. But he’s the kind of player. I always thought Kimmich could be an interesting one but I’ve seen you mention about his high wage and he looks maybe city bound if he moves?

{Ed014's Note - Mainoo does have a lot about him and I’m sure he’d be better here than where he is but that move would be very very unlikely.

Kimmich would definitely want big money and at 29 doesn’t have much of a shelf life.

I’m sure Arteta has someone in mind so it’s just a bit of wait and see unfortunately.

5.) 29 Jul 2024 18:59:02
Ed do you think though with Saudi buying players of all ages, teams will be thinking it’s now a possibility to get your money atleast back if you can get a quality player relatively cheap for the individual market valuation even if they’re on the older side of 20s?

{Ed014's Note - it’s possible mate but I don’t think things are going quite as swimmingly as the Saudis hoped and maybe the crazy money signings will drop off.

The other thing with Kimmich is how he’d affect the wage structure. There also doesn’t seem to be a mass of clubs looking to sign him.

14 Jul 2024 11:53:40
Hi Ed002 Hope you are well. Do Arsenal have any interest in Julian Alvarez at City? Not sure they would sell to us but would be a great signing COYG.

SUSSEX AFC

{Ed002's Note - There is interest from other clubs, but not Arsenal.}

1.) 17 Jul 2024 16:25:23
Thanks as always Ed002 ?.

Go on then I'll go first. All over Napoli, excellent professional performance. Had Saka, Merino, Hincapie, Noni and Tzolis scored easyish chances, it would have been an easier night. Viktor and Kai not missing chances, but worry Viktor nowhere to be seen. Salba is a legend, but boy doesn't Konza look good. Pound for pound best buy of window imo (early days obviously) . COYG.

Where are all the goals from corners this season? All these goals from open play leave you with absolutely no time to adopt the cheering position and get your phone ready to capture a selfie to post on social media.

It's a total lack of consideration for fans' needs from the club, if you ask me. ???

2.) 10 Sep 2026 21:08:23
It was a good performance against a low-block Italian side, and we managed to create many chances, but failed to take most of them. But 3 points, on to the next game.
Viktor was never in the game; there was hardly any service, and it feels like the players don't want to play to his strengths.

A win away in Italy is all that matters, though, as we have a slightly tougher set of fixtures in the league this season.

3.) 10 Sep 2026 22:48:09
We are currently out of the automatic qualification places for the Champions League knockout stages. Arteta out?

4.) 11 Sep 2026 09:01:29
Viktor just does not suit how we play, and his first touch is awful in my opinion. Keep with King Kai.

5.) 11 Sep 2026 16:45:44
It's a long season with lots of games to come, Stephen, mate. Victor might yet have his moments to shine in. ?

6.) 11 Sep 2026 19:05:21
We definitely do not play to his strengths. If he produces 20 goals again this season, and with the other goals coming from across the park, I'd be ok with it.
With Arsenal, there is no telling where the goals will come from.

Our midfield is just so strong. Timber and Fury are a frightening prospect for any team in world football, with Saka and Tzolis interchanging.
So excited to see our full-strength team out.

7.) 11 Sep 2026 20:14:41
He's not at the level we need - simple.

Finish, touch, speed, aggression, hold up - he's decent but nowhere near good enough if we want to win the league / Champ League.

Sorry, but anyone saying otherwise is just backing out, playing blindly, which is fine.

8.) 11 Sep 2026 20:30:58
? I'm backing out. I want the world to know. ?

9.) 11 Sep 2026 20:54:02
Backing our player blindly - sorry, been out since 11.30.

10.) 11 Sep 2026 21:10:06
No problem, SY. I was just having a laugh. ?

11.) 12 Sep 2026 01:07:39
I'm not being negative, Gunner 62. I'm just saying, in my opinion, he is not a player that suits how we play, and has no first touch. If we played with balls in behind, he would go good running onto them, but we don't.

12.) 12 Sep 2026 07:45:22
It was not long ago we were all saying the same thing about Kai. Some called him a donkey. Some called for Arteta to be sacked for bringing him in. The same with Raya replacing Ramsdale. We are too quick to jump down the firing line. Give the lad time to play and adapt. At first, he scored more than I anticipated. Currently, he has had very little game time, and the team is still adapting. The beauty of our team is we are not depending on one player to bring the goals in.

Give it time, and Victor will become victorious. Just look at teams who go down the hire-and-fire route. We are in a great position; trust the process, and watch us eclipse the Fergie era and the Liverpool era. Looking at our team, management, and fans, we are in a very strong position. Let the people that are paid very well do their job n let us do ours. Enjoy the games n support the team, be that extra man on the pitch.

13.) 12 Sep 2026 09:16:15
Hi Stephen, mate, I didn't think you were being negative, and I agree his first touch is very poor a lot of the time.

He had his moments last season and im just saying I think he will again this season, hopefully some really good moments at some really important times. ?

14.) 12 Sep 2026 12:38:19
Just think Viktor knows where the goal is, but against Napoli he was not on the end of anything. However, it was his first start. He will score and play his part. The worry was he wasn't missing them by being in the right place.

Is it blind faith? Who knows? But, at this point, we have who we have, and we are currently top and undefeated and looking quite good, so I'm happy COYG.

15.) 12 Sep 2026 12:43:56
Our place in the Champions League table is definitely a worry though, Berkshire. ????

16.) 12 Sep 2026 13:33:17
G4E, you could argue we aren't reliant on one person because we don't have a world class striker. Until then, I have to be content with Kai, who will work hard & press, which the manager likes, but will slow us down, miss chances and not do what a striker does. At least he has a good football brain. I struggle when that's our Plan A. Our Plan B is even worse, as he offers less & doesn't trouble top top teams.

We need a cutting edge, and those two aren't it. Sorry to be negative. We are where we are, and I will get on with it. However, the sane people will praise Noni, who lacks end product. Our signings are still a bit poor, we have an amazing squad, but we need a slight upgrade in the starting 11, namely the attack. Our attack is nowhere near as good as our defence. Do you not agree? If you do, then what?

17.) 12 Sep 2026 18:29:18
I don't disagree with wanting better signings. If we didn't look to improve, and stood still, that would be the same as going backwards. What I do have a problem with is this instant success some of us look to get, and the fire and fire mentality. If a change is made, give it time to bed in, work the system, and then adjust. If a player is bought on a multiple year contract, don't get the knives out after season one.

This window, we all saw us being linked to players who turned us down. The day is on where players of a very high calibre will be knocking Berta's door for him to sign them. It's coming, boys. It's not going to be easy, and it won't happen overnight, but we are almost there.

Stay together, stick to the process. F*** the others. It's all about us, and we are the champions, and will remain for a long time to come.

18.) 12 Sep 2026 19:17:51
86 fifteenth place is appalling! Must improve COYG.

19.) 12 Sep 2026 19:50:28
We also saw us dither, G4E. The boss clearly identified areas & we dithered & got distracted while others added/secured good attacking options all across Europe.

Anyway, hoping for a big 3 points today.

20.) 12 Sep 2026 19:58:18
It's definitely a worry, Gloucestershire, that's for sure. ????

02 Sep 2026 11:09:12
We are in rarefied company when discussing transfers and players who will improve us. I got caught up ridiculously in what we were doing but am now trying to reflect on it sanely. Were we looking at LW with red tinted specs? Tsolis has been seen as an upgrade on Tross so the real issue is covering Martinelli, which I called a dereliction of duty if we didn't replace. What? One goal in Prem over 30 appearances. We have players to cover RW and LW - Eze Saka, Max, Tsolis, Noni - Five players for 2 starting places. Weakest link there is Noni but I'm sure he can score more than one goal in 30 appearances at LW. I get the we need an elite CF but none available realistically. We did quite well with Kai and Viktor last season and Kai was injured for most of it! One season in Viktor has to (I think he will) improve.

Our quality and strength in depth for midfield and defence is outstanding - think Timber and Saliba (2 of our very best) to come back too! My laboured waffly point being is I think the mentioned Eze Noni and Tsolis can cover the one goal (7 if you include Tross' goals) Martinelli scored with the added bonus Max can get more minutes covering Saka. Get the youngsters working ;) Other teams have improved but it is hard to win the Prem as everyone kept telling us but we know how to do it! For those worrying about LW maybe we are waiting on Yildiz / Kroupi in January. Who knows but nailing my colours to the mast I'm relaxed / confident we will be there or there abouts again in Prem and CL. That may not be good enough for some but winning the Prem or CL is pretty hard to do COYG.

1.) 02 Sep 2026 12:37:11
Excellent post, Sussex.
Absolutely agree with you, Yildiz or Kroupi in January if they recover from their injuries.

25 Aug 2026 21:39:46
In selling Martinelli are we being left short at LW or are we upgrading? If upgrading who is this Scarlet Pimpernel? COYG.

SUSSEX AFC

1.) 26 Aug 2026 08:05:14.
I will be gutted when Gabi leaves, even if it's probably the right call football-wise. We now have 3 rw players for 1 spot, so my guess is Eze is first-choice backup for Tzolis and Mo at both lw and cam.

Can Dowman play lw? Surely Madueke can.

2.) 26 Aug 2026 10:44:14
High Wire! We do seem to have excellent cover for defence and midfield, yet we are (end of window notwithstanding) weakening our attack if we sell Gabi. I'm sure Madueke and Eze can cover, but square pegs into round holes. I thought we had moved on from doing that. I appreciate we can't just spend, spend, spend, but I hope we aren't all in on Alvarez at the expense of the LW.

What if Tzolis gets injured? Down to a non-specific LW. Doesn't sound like a CL-winning attack, with one third a mishmash. I rate Eze, and maybe he's happy to embrace the role fully, means he plays more often, and maybe I'm being disingenuous saying he's a square peg/mishmash. Time will tell, I guess. Agree on Gabi - sad, but just hope we have a plan to upgrade him. COYG.

3.) 26 Aug 2026 11:18:50
Agreed, I'd have been more confident going into this season with no Alvarez and with Martinelli as our lw cover, but presumably the boss has a plan and within a few days we shall see what it is.

What do I know? Played 12 games last season due to ankle surgery! Injury prone, so get him a bed in the Abou Diaby Suite, and while he's there, draw him a picture of what a goal looks like! Happy to eat humble pie though COYG. ?‍♂️

Looked into Kai a bit more following this discussion and googled Raumdeuter or Space Interpreter. It explains what Kai and such players bring to a side. Muller of Bayern is the most widely known Raumdeuter.

I found it fascinating, to be fair. It really explains why we don't use an out and out striker for our system. COYG. Maybe all along we've had 15 goal strikers that allow others to score much more. ?‍♂️

Loved watching Pat Jennings, Kenny Sansom, Charlie Nick (very frustrating though) , but then I'd be all over the place if I was friendly with Suzanne Dando - one for the teenagers! Stewart Robson was the next big thing, but groin and thigh injuries stopped that. The 70's and 80's was a great time to watch live football - rock up and buy a ticket, easy enough to get Spuds, Chelsea, Pool and United tickets, and about £2 for the North Bank.

There's so much money about, but is it better? Jumpers for goalposts and someone P**sing in your jacket pocket, pints in The Arsenal pub - heady days - loved them COYG.

You're welcome for Ainsley Ed025 :) A gift from Hale End! Also last season the Villa page were asking what Rogers had on Emery for him to keep picking him. Even if that was an exaggeration he obviously wasn't pulling up any trees. Jude or Rogers? Whaaaaaat! COYG

{Ed025's Note - it was a great strike SY and it got us out of a hole, Morgan is a highlight reel player who only shows up in very small doses mate, i think you might have dodged a bullet there..
