Hi Ed002 hope you`re well. You said a while ago Arsenal were in for Ivan Toney if the price reduced. Is this still the case or as you like to say have we moved on? Thanks in advance COYG.
{Ed002's Note - I understand that efforts are being made still to take Toney to Saudi.}
1.) 29 Aug 2024 18:45:02
Hi ed002, you mentioned on the europe page before that Arsenal were likely bidders for Gyokeres. Is that unlikely as we near the end of the window.
{Ed002's Note - I am not sure I said likely bidders but it would take a single payment of €100M now and the player to agree. There may be an offer from elsewhere tomorrow but suspect Arsenal will step away at that price.}
26 Jul 2024 10:19:27
Hi Eds hope you are all well. Is there any interest in Thomas Partey as he enters the last year of his contract? Seems we are looking to upgrade him and just wanting to know if he`s aiming to run his contract down. Thanks in advance.
{Ed002's Note - There has been interest from Turkey and the Middle East but he wants to see his contract out. Arsenal want him moved on.}
1.) 26 Jul 2024 14:05:30
Thanks Ed002, frustrating for the club I guess but if ( a big if ) he stays fit for the season he is a big asset. Much appreciated COYG.
{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}
2.) 28 Jul 2024 16:35:50
From what I’ve seen merino isn’t an upgrade on Partey. Any CMs Eds you’d be looking at that’s up for potential grabs or you like the look of merino?
{Ed014's Note - I’d never heard of Merino prior to the Euros and never watched him there either.
Ugarte was supposed to be the dogs but looks like PSG are trying to off load him, have to ask why. Think Utd are looking at him to replace Casimero, but let’s be honest, any elderly lady would be better than that lump.
I liked the look of Wharton at Palace from what little I’d seen of him.
That aside no real idea mate, who do you like the look of?
3.) 28 Jul 2024 18:25:21
Wharton would be a great signing but I think Palace would want stupid money for him. I’ve seen Ruiz linked with us which could be a good signing.
4.) 29 Jul 2024 03:15:05
Well Ed I think the player I think Arteta could coach to be a worldy that would fit into the quality of squad we have is Mainoo not that we could get him. But he’s the kind of player. I always thought Kimmich could be an interesting one but I’ve seen you mention about his high wage and he looks maybe city bound if he moves?
{Ed014's Note - Mainoo does have a lot about him and I’m sure he’d be better here than where he is but that move would be very very unlikely.
Kimmich would definitely want big money and at 29 doesn’t have much of a shelf life.
I’m sure Arteta has someone in mind so it’s just a bit of wait and see unfortunately.
5.) 29 Jul 2024 18:59:02
Ed do you think though with Saudi buying players of all ages, teams will be thinking it’s now a possibility to get your money atleast back if you can get a quality player relatively cheap for the individual market valuation even if they’re on the older side of 20s?
{Ed014's Note - it’s possible mate but I don’t think things are going quite as swimmingly as the Saudis hoped and maybe the crazy money signings will drop off.
The other thing with Kimmich is how he’d affect the wage structure. There also doesn’t seem to be a mass of clubs looking to sign him.
14 Jul 2024 11:53:40
Hi Ed002 Hope you are well. Do Arsenal have any interest in Julian Alvarez at City? Not sure they would sell to us but would be a great signing COYG.
{Ed002's Note - There is interest from other clubs, but not Arsenal.}
1.) 17 Jul 2024 16:25:23
Thanks as always Ed002 ?.
18 May 2024 05:07:14
Hi Ed02 is there any truth in the rumour of Aaron Ramsdale to Newcastle? The reason I ask is because I would have thought Nick Pope was their number one and Ramsdale would be sitting on a different bench . Thanks in advance COYG.
{Ed002's Note - Aaron Ramsdale (G) Ramsdale is stuck rather and needs to figure out his future with Arsenal. Wolves are very concerned about losing Sa and are keen to take Ramsdale to replace him but have other options. Milan are the same with Maignan. Newcastle may offer a good solution that will be of interest to the player. A wildcard could be West Ham.}
1.) 18 May 2024 14:09:18
Thanks Ed! Other teams makes sense Newcastle not so much! Have a great weekend COYG.
{Ed002's Note - It will be due to Pope's injury and wanting better options than Dubravka.}
2.) 18 May 2024 16:19:50
Thanks again ?.
29 Aug 2023 13:14:54
Hi Ed002 Sorry to disturb you I`m sure you are very busy but I`ve just seen an article stating Edu has contacted Napoli regarding Osimhen and was given encouragement from his agent. Have we indeed contacted Napoli or is this just click bait? I have searched but couldn`t find anything. No worries if too busy just thought I`d ask COYG.
{Ed002's Note - Victor Osimhen (S) Napoli made it clear to Chelsea who enquired in 2021 that even €100M would not buy the player then and buy now they would look to around double that. He will not move this summer although an offer could yet be made by Al-Hilal will offer him a chance in the Middle East. Interest of Manchester City went with Haaland signing last year but may return if he were to depart. Real Madrid interest is elsewhere and Manchester United have opted for another. Conte wanted him at Spurs as a Kane replacement but the new management has other ideas. Bayern Munich now have Kane and that removes their interest and he is too expensive for Milan regardless of investment coming in. This leaves PSG, Chelsea and Arsenal, and his “agent” is doing the rounds this month to try and get them to seek to agree a deal with Napoli for next summer and give him a large fee now. Chelsea are not interested in such a deal. I doubt the others would be stupid enough to commit such huge amounts of money in such a deal either.}
1.) 29 Aug 2023 13:45:41
Thanks Ed much appreciated! Must stop reading clickbait COYG.

I'm sure Gabriel has done worse to Haaland but throwing a ball at someone's head then running off does make Haaland a classless cockwomble! Especially as in the cold light of day he'd still do the same! Maybe just me COYG.
01 Oct 2024 22:49:48
Excellent performance and Mr Havertz again doing Mr Havertz things! Round it off with three points Saturday and then re group! Get In COYG.
1.) 02 Oct 2024 02:44:50
Saw someone mention today that if we signed Isak or Osimhen and he was doing for us what Havertz has done in the last 8 months then nobody would be talking about us needing a striker. That header tonight was brilliant.
01 Oct 2024 12:57:15
Sure you know but if not 8pm only on Amazon Prime tonight COYG. if you don`t have Prime find someone who will give you their login . Apologies for maybe stating the bleeding obvious.
1.) 01 Oct 2024 14:39:22
I'm popping into your gaff for the game. What snacks you got?
{Ed014's Note - a packet of rich tea and a couple of penguin bars at a guess, maybe a Wagon Wheel ?
2.) 01 Oct 2024 15:59:21
How very dare you! We’ve a lovely finger buffet, vol au vents, Black Forest gateau oh and a table just for you Sharpie with some nice watches jewellery etc! Bring a bottle! My address is ……. Yeah right COYG.
3.) 01 Oct 2024 22:33:42
I stopped reading at finger buffet.

Really interesting information ( for me at least) from Edu regarding how we look at transfers. Fans I guess just look at performance as it adds to the team. Edu - I`m paraphrasing - takes into account the age the salary and the performance. The age cut off seems to be 27/ 28 but if they are performing it is acceptable to be 26/ 27 with a high salary. If not performing you are out at 28. Essentially younger players performing on acceptable / even high salaries are safe but have to justify it even as they reach 28. I like it it keeps players needing to perform. Can see why Ozil, Mustafi, Auba, Pepe etc etc were got rid of. Age massive salaries and importantly not performing. My thoughts are about Merino, he`s 28 probably a hefty salary and not sure if he will perform. Is he a gamble? For me yes but it`s not my money COYG.
30 Jul 2024 10:26:50
Excellent signing Calafiori - helping make a strong defence stronger with rotation. We do seem to have more left backs than England have right backs though!
I have too much time on my hands and I have a confirmation bias complex with Kai Havertz. Just from last season and I may be alone but let's take penalties out of the equation as I think gives a skewed view of how effective a striker is if pure goal stats are being thrown around
Haaland 27 goals 7 penalties
Palmer 22 goals 9 penalties
Isak 21 goals 5 penalties
Salah 18 goals 5 penalties
Watkins 19 goals no pens
Palmer is also new to their club as was Havertz. He carried Chelsea yet scored 13 goals without pens. This is the same as Havertz. Indeed if Kai scored all our penalties he would have been level with Palmer. Toney is not for me penalty heavy. I just think we have to be careful to not skew our view of players based on just goals scored which includes penalties. One last stat if I may, Havertz scored 12 goals in 26 after a poor start. Extrapolating that out is 17.5 goals this season without penalties or 27 with penalties ( Is he really as bad as some on here believe? ) My question is : is that enough or should we replace and if so who? COYG.
1.) 30 Jul 2024 12:33:36
Nice post Sussex, also consider how Havertz was either played much deeper or even from the bench for much of his first few months with Arsenal. Perhaps a sign he will eclipse that total this year, fingers crossed.
2.) 30 Jul 2024 13:52:22
High Wire thank you, I just think the one position we need to fill is Rice`s partner in midfield. A fit Partey and Jorghino would be great cover but buying the best Rice partner we can buy is a priority. Irony of ironies Kai ( a waste of money) can save us that money on a striker and allow that midfielder. Rumours seem to be Merino. Cover for Saka needed perhaps although Martinelli played well there albeit one game and Jesus can play out there COYG.
3.) 30 Jul 2024 16:02:45
Yeah nice post Sussex
Agree regarding king Kai.
4.) 30 Jul 2024 19:09:07
Kai ain't no, dare I say it, striker! Sure, he's tucked away a few goals, but extrapolation doesn't work in real world football. Young Martinelli put away 15 in the 2022/ 23 season. Last season he scored 6. Ode scored 15 in 22/ 23, last season 8.
5.) 30 Jul 2024 19:41:35
Evening Sharpie and I did say I had a confirmation bias! So if not Kai who? I’m easily convinced a bit like you when buying watches ? #inoticed- timepiecebandit
COYG.
6.) 30 Jul 2024 20:58:40
Hey Sus. I'm not even talking marquee signing in that position. Just someone who is going to be better than Jesus and Nketiah.
{Ed025's Note - Mr Bean could do that Sharpy.. :)
7.) 30 Jul 2024 22:42:59
Evening ed025 hope you’re well! Only just started watching Ted Lasso and knew it wasn’t real when they said Everton were in 8th place! Apologies! COYG Maybe red tinted specs but Jesus will surprise a few Eddie not so much ( probably be sold )
{Ed025's Note - maybe the one who could turn water into wine SUSSEX but not the one who plays for Arsenal mate, you have a great chance this coming season to win the title but you cant afford any passengers and for me GJ is just not good enough..
8.) 31 Jul 2024 08:12:31
Sus, what's changed from last season? Literally everyone involved in football were saying we needed a striker. Kai has only ever managed double digits twice in his career. Once with us, and once in Germany. He just isn't a striker.
Jesus, now here's someone we all had high hopes for, but he just hasn't delivered. Expecting that he magically will this season just seems like we're plodding along on a wish and a prayer. What's the point of assembling this otherwise great team?
9.) 31 Jul 2024 08:13:20
Ed025, I prefer the one that turns sticks into spliffs. That's my kind of Jesus!
{Ed025's Note - you do come across as a holy man Sharpy.. :)
10.) 31 Jul 2024 09:21:31
Which is my point in the original post and yet all I’m hearing is he’s not good enough GJ not good enough but I’m here waiting for someone to convince me xyz is better than we have. I am willing to listen . Watkins and Isak doubt can be bought, Osimhen ridiculous price and that leaves Gyokeres . So simple who and why? COYG Money no object Isak for me but Newcastle richer than C£ty - no chance.
11.) 31 Jul 2024 11:33:59
Sus, I already have a job that keeps me in mediocre timepieces. Surely, with an extensive scouting system that likely costs the club millions per year, you'd expect them to have a bit more of a clue.
However, just off the top of my head - Solanke. 16 goals last season for a quite meh Bournemouth side. He'd get the service at Arsenal to maybe better that goal tally.
12.) 31 Jul 2024 12:16:42
Not the same Solanki who got 6 goals (Full Vidiprinter SIX) the previous season. To conclude this let’s agree to let the pro’s decide I reckon - it’s their job on the line after all COYG.
13.) 31 Jul 2024 13:59:33
So you're saying he's improved? ? Wish we could say the same about Jesus and Nketiah. I'm not even suggesting we go out and buy someone. Could use pre-season to see how Martinelli fares there.
Another season of someone up front who doesn't find the goal more consistently could see us second best again. We were THAT close last season. Played some wonderful football. Could we have won it if we had a more capable striker? Who know, mate.
{Ed014's Note - this is going to put the cat amongst the pigeons as for me we lost the league in the game against Villa.
Why? Because Arteta made the mistake of playing Jesus up front and dropped Havertz in to midfield, which was pretty much where Jesus then decided to play.
14.) 31 Jul 2024 14:31:18
14, I'm sure he's a nice lad, but the football seems to have left him.
Defo lost the league at Villa, but maybe it wouldn't have mattered if we'd had a striker that could dig us out the Fulham or West Ham games.
15.) 31 Jul 2024 19:59:17
We won’t win the league with Kai and Jesus. Neither are scary strikers with a constant goal threat. They are good squad players and options but we need a far better option up front if we want to win the league. Kai is not turning a gsme on its head but can benefit from the team playing well. We need someone spangle of 20 plus goals and having that special skill to turn a game on their own. Henry, Agüero and Wright had that in them…. Kai just doesn’t and Jesus isn’t clinical.
{Ed025's Note - spot on SY..
16.) 31 Jul 2024 22:30:38
Brilliant! Who and why? It’s a simple question! Too easy to slag off and not have the solution! Solanki no chance ( replace Eddie perhaps) Who why and needs to be realistic? COYG.
17.) 01 Aug 2024 09:33:44
And just as an aside (doubt anyone has scrolled down this far ) Darwin Nunez scored a goal a game all but in Portuguese League cost thick end of £80 mill and has scored one in three with 11 goals last season. At a reported £86 mill is Gyokeres with very similar stats the answer, in a new league new team etc? COYG.
18.) 01 Aug 2024 12:00:59
Sus, bottom line is we have a need for a striker. Most people will agree with this. Clubs have scouts and analytical software that helps them identify targets for their very specific method of play. They'll also undoubtedly look at things like personalities, etc to make sure the player they are recruiting will fit their system/ philosophy.
And yes, sometimes it doesn't work out. Your Nunez example, or our Pepe. That's the risk clubs take. If they went gun-shy because some other club bought a player that didn't work out, well, no one would be buying players.
Let me flip this around and ask you - what do you feel the very minimum requirements are for a striker that plays for a team that one two occasions came up just short of winning the title.
Keep in mind, that in the 22/ 23 season and 23/ 24 season, the team that won the league had a striker scoring over 20 goals.
In the 23/ 24 season, we didn't have a single player in the top 10 for goals.
19.) 01 Aug 2024 14:01:36
I would say we are not far away as it is. I believe we scored 91 goals last season ( the same as C£ty by the way) and also believe we fecked it up v Villa as Ed14 pointed out.
Maybe we might score more goals with what we have settled formation/ team etc but there is no guarantees anyone comes in scores 20 goals and we don`t score more than 91 as that striker becomes more of a focus. City are very good yet Haaland and Foden scored more than half of their goals. All eggs in one basket but has worked for them.
I am not averse to a big name striker if only to see if it the missing piece. Has to be the right player who allows the team to score at least 91 this season - no point in having someone score 30 goals and we don`t improve goals scored or win the Prem. I have said before break the bank for Isak or Alvarez but remain unconvinced by Toney Gykores etc.
Yes we didn`t have a single player in top 10 yet scored equal most goals. Surely that is an indication of how we want to play which ultimately meant we didn`t win anything but only lost the league at home to Villa when at the business end. It`s why it`s a matter of opinion on here but it is MA Edu and scouting staff`s opinion that counts. MA has intimated he wants to mix it up so a striker could easily be on his way.
Sharpy I don`t have you down as agreeing with most people and who are these people anyway let`s trust MA he seems to be doing quite well so far. It is quite exciting though 20+ Striker and/ or a better left back (tick) better partner for Rice hopefully Merino (tick) to shore up defence and score more goals that way COYG

20.) 01 Aug 2024 16:40:58
Sus, almost everyone who watched the prem last season would say they felt we were missing a striker. I agree with them because that's also how I feel. I'm not contrarian just for the feck of it you know ?
#14dislikespieeaters #COYG.
{Ed014's Note - I defo wouldn’t want Akinfenwa as our new striker! ?
21.) 01 Aug 2024 18:02:39
That lad ate the pie shop!
{Ed014's Note - what, just the one?
26 Jul 2024 14:05:30
Thanks Ed002, frustrating for the club I guess but if ( a big if ) he stays fit for the season he is a big asset. Much appreciated COYG.
{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}
24 Jul 2024 21:15:11
Hello Banbury hope all good! Shame you escaped the classic RTFP haha COYG.
17 Jul 2024 16:25:23
Thanks as always Ed002 ?.

Is it Herr Trigger the German sniper? And away COYG.
{Ed014's Note - ?♂️??
17 Jun 2024 21:10:00
Hi Ed025 I agree never been convinced - one season 22/ 23 everyone bangs on about with 20 goals but 6 pens included! Saka does that from the wing. Forget the pity penalty v Bournemouth Kai didn`t score in twelve games - then scored 12 goals in 25 games (think no pens) so on that form he gets 19 goals without pens - which is pretty good. He also assists. Haaland scored 27 goals but 7 were pens. Kai is nowhere the scorer Haaland is (Haaland played less games) but he is important to the way we play. Unless it`s top drawer and prem ready spend the money on the best midfielder possible to complement Rice and Ode. Isak is the only option for me or Alvarez but City won`t sell. Anyway what do I know but I know a man who does - come on MA get Isak COYG.
{Ed025's Note - i think Isak would be perfect SUSSEX, it looks very unlikely to happen though but you still need a top draw striker for me mate, Kai will do a job but if he gets injured you are up the creek without a paddle i feel..
03 Nov 2024 15:06:15
Very lethargic yesterday. Once Ode is back so Rice, Ode and Merino/ Partey with White back at right back instead of Partey and Kai up front and not faffing around swapping with Trossard we are a different animal. We become much harder to beat with just one player back and White in correct position makes us more dangerous down the right. Martinelli really hasn`t helped as we either go right or get no end product. I`d prefer Tross or Jesus out there. No excuses for yesterday as should have had enough. Toothless yesterday very strange COYG As for title over talk bowlocks it is.
15 Oct 2024 20:45:20
Hi Sally I was genuinely looking at Brighton season tickets, we join super league like you I’m done. 50 plus years and done. Surely not COYG.
07 Oct 2024 11:16:31
I remember Partey and El Nenny being outstanding at Old Trafford when we won 1-0 and at the time him being in a debate as to who was better Rodri or Partey. That`s elevated company. Irrational but I always want him to play well felt the same about Xhaka! Welcome to the light side Sharpie regarding Mr Havertz and let's hope his injury isn`t bad and he can keep doing his thing COYG.
06 Oct 2024 16:21:59
I'm counting them Sharpie (although he's now injured) just like everyone was counting one goal in fifteen or whatever it was and spouting what a waste of money he's rubbish etc.
I'm going full red spectacles and say 13 in last 20 league games means 25 league goals - makes me feel better and done through a tough start to season :) COYG.
06 Oct 2024 09:27:37
Partey can be sloppy and worse look sloppy but i love the way he passes through the lines. Once Ode Merino White and Timber even Zinchenko are fit he is on the bench. Either way not too fussed but we sell in January or offer less wages for a good squad player!
Stealing a living nope. Hoping Nwaneri keeps getting playing time - very excited about player he is becoming. Mr Havertz 4 in 7! That`s 22 goals a season with no pens. Osimhen / Gyorkes who? COYG.
