Odegaard out for a minimum of 2 months, apparently. Time for the squad to step up ?.

He will be missed there's no doubt HG.

Hey ED002. Any truths in the Rashford links?

Helder Glenn

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any interest.}

1.) 30 May 2024 08:37:35
Why would Arsenal want to sign Rashford?

2.) 30 May 2024 14:43:51
Maybe because we are looking for a lw and a striker.

3.) 30 May 2024 21:27:40
I don't think we're looking at lw. Rw yes but not lw it's our only strong position. Trossard and martenelli.

4.) 01 Jun 2024 19:09:11
Please please no not Rashford.

08 Jun 2023 18:40:36
Rice and Caicedo to both join in the coming weeks apparently.

Helder Glenn

1.) 08 Jun 2023 20:25:10
I certainly hope so. Both the names have been mentioned so many times arteta n edu must be in there. It would be a big statement to get our first choice. Although knowing the club we probably bring in unheard of talent. Looking forward to new season.

2.) 08 Jun 2023 22:28:24
1 or the other for me can't see both happening if either of them come big clubs will be all over the 2 players mentioned above imo.

3.) 09 Jun 2023 01:07:25
Rice and Osimhen. Make it happen Edu!

Kokcu and Fresneda to round out the squad and a ton of sales to balance books.

4.) 09 Jun 2023 11:00:51
That would be unbelievable roge.

Amazing to see Lewis-Skelly starting his first England game tonight!

Helder Glenn

1.) 22 Mar 2025 04:44:53
Didn't go too badly for him either!

2.) 22 Mar 2025 10:21:08
Amazing debut for our young star - local boy and joined the club under our greatest ever manager ??

He must be buzzing - well done and please stay grounded. ??.

3.) 22 Mar 2025 17:38:14
Star boy no.2 or 3 if Naweiri is no.2 lol.

09 Mar 2025 18:43:47
So the league is gone and we now need to concentrate on securing 2nd because that doesn't look a cert. Obviously we have the Champions League and hopefully Saka coming back at the end of March will give us a lift.
The big question- do you give Arteta more time or not? I think we'll go out and strengthen in the summer with a CF coming in (probably a LB as well ?) - if no one leaves and that happens do you think Arteta can takes us to the next level? I'm not so sure. He's done great things for us but I have a feeling we'll be in the same position next season talking about ifs and buts.
Time will tell.

Helder Glenn

1.) 09 Mar 2025 20:01:30
Hi HG, I personally think Arteta has earned the chance to lead next season.

Last season was our first Champions league quarter final for 12 years? And we look almost certain to at least equal that progress again this season. We also look likely finish 2nd for the 3rd season running despite having more than our fair share of injuries this season.

I think most neutrals would think we were crazy to sack Arteta right now but I totally accept most Spurs, United and Chelsea fans would strongly urge us to do so ASAP.

2.) 09 Mar 2025 20:12:17
I agree mate, I’m just not sure whether he can make the next step with us. Really hope I’m wrong.

3.) 09 Mar 2025 21:16:07
Some managers can build teams and positive attitude.

Some managers build champions winning teams and accept friction / fall outs are part of winning.

Arteta had taken us as far as he can.

If we are happy with being 2nd or 3rd every season and a team who doesn’t have the balls to play to win at the risk of losing rather than playing to not lose then let your fear of change override your desire to win.

The question was who could replace him., what if…. Well, look at Liverpool.

Plenty players were available in the last window if the club had the desire.

We sold some decent attackers and never replaced them. We bought a left back, CM and in the previous window Kai. We were crying out for a god Damn striker but our boss hasn’t signed one over the 3 years and cost us the league. He wants a striker who defends! I want one that scores.

To win / you need to be ruthless. Tactically astute. Arteta is not that guy.

I like him. He’s done well. He’s also bottled it and plays for draws when wins are needed, he loves the club and is a lovely guy. But who the F brings in a dog to the club called winner or something like that to have a nice feeling around the club. That’s not a winning club / would Fergie or Jose do something like that or would they not have a striker? NO

He either gets a decent number 2 or we try something different, he’s had plenty money.

4.) 09 Mar 2025 21:26:25
So we turned this deal down in Jan:

“Kolo Muani has had a remarkable impact in Turin, scoring five goals in his opening six Serie A matches. His performances in February earned him the Serie A Player of the Month award”

I know Ed14 said he had a bad attitude or something negative towards the suggestion / comment…

I’d take that input over any of our front line options at present. That spark could have helped Ode who is. It great at present.

Could have given Arteta the chance to show he can manage a difficult player rather than being able to give them away for free.

5.) 09 Mar 2025 21:19:03
Hi HG, I'm not sure either mate but I think he's earned the opportunity to prove it one way or the other.

To be fair who could we possibly bring in that would definitely guarantee us the title next season mate? Klop. Ancelotti, Gardiola! Even if we could take our pick of all 3 there would still be no guarantees that this time next year Arsenal fans wouldn't be calling for Arteta replacement to be replaced.

As the mysterious voice said in the film Field of Dreams " go the distance " ?????.

23 Feb 2025 11:35:36
One thing I really don't understand is why Arteta hasn't looked at the youth and reserve teams to cover the CF position. Nathan OB has scored 7 goals in 10 games in the PL2! It's bizarre.

Helder Glenn

1.) 23 Feb 2025 13:35:15
Let's be honest here it's what arteta does. Plays people out of position to try and play it safe. It's one of the faults I have with him.

2.) 23 Feb 2025 14:30:34
Why he wants to play Merino as CF is beyond me. Play a natural CF. Keep Metino on the bench to play against tired legs at best.

Never seen so many FBs bring used in a game….

He’s so god damn stubborn and rigid and defensive and negative in his play when we get to the business end of the season. Lacks that big club want to win attitude.

3.) 23 Feb 2025 15:04:59
Maybe Arteta is just a coach not a manager!
Arsenal have talented players but with Arteta they cannot produce their talents on the pitch it seems like they are scared to do anything different in case they get a bollocking from Arteta . Every break in play the players have to all run to Arteta for him to give them orders like a control freak.

19 Jan 2025 18:19:18
Great point made by a few people on here which I hadn't thought about- why didn't Kiwior play CByesterday and Timber at RB? Bizarre team selection.

Helder Glenn

1.) 19 Jan 2025 20:05:27
Hi glen hope alls well. and yes mate. it’s a good shout by you and others. I posted on here a couple of weeks ago saying sometimes Mikel try’s to be too cute with his selections. trying to fit square pegs in round holes, and round pegs in square holes and it just not working and being detrimental to the cause at times, just get back to basics. yesterday was an example of this kiwior could have played central defence with gabi, zini or kT slot in at left back and timber on the right. partey tries his best but he is definitely nowhere near as good played at right back. not really his as not his natural position. he totally switched off for a split second yesterday and it was 2 massive points dropped at home. if partey had been played in his natural position yesterday alongside rice and ode we may not have conceded either of them goals to villa. but we will never know now…the thing I am sure of is we still need a striker because we are still creating chances we should be putting away. but who is really gettable in this window…? … realistically who can we get this window because we need someone. ?⚪️❤️.

2.) 19 Jan 2025 21:00:32
He’s does make some weird decisions making defence and midfield weaker by playing people out of position without actually learning…, looks strange from the outside and raises questions about him that aren’t necessary.

3.) 20 Jan 2025 07:49:28
Great point. He does love over thinking things.

4.) 20 Jan 2025 09:06:12
I might be wrong but i don't think either gab or Kiwor like to play right sided CB, they are both very left footed.

5.) 20 Jan 2025 22:45:21
I’m sure Partey isn’t a right back, doesn’t think like a right back nor enjoys playing right back plus isn’t mobile enough to play right back. Worst choice out of a bad bunch of options. Despite Fulback being the bosses preferred signing over a striker… a CB should be able to play either side for the odd game. Despite all our defensive signings - we lack quality in cover which is on Arteta also.

6.) 21 Jan 2025 09:54:53
I think the lack quality in cover comment is a bit unfair, We have White, tommy and califori all out, who could have all played at RB or CB very comfortably and would have been close to our first choice.

I agree Partey is not a RB and other than the odd game has never really looked comfortable there, and i agree a CB should be able to player either side, my comment might have not been valid, it was just a thought as i have never seen either play on that side of the central defence.

We are down to our 4/ 5 choice at RB if timber has to play CB, not many teams will have great cover at that level. we have the best defence in the league for the last few seasons, the club and arteta have done very well in that department since Arteta took over.

Edu is leaving apparently. Wonder what's happened there.

Helder Glenn

1.) 04 Nov 2024 09:22:44
Just seen it Glenn.
Tbh his recruitment policy concerning strikers has not been great imo.
Wasted transfer windows chasing Vlahovic/ Sesko when perhaps we should have gone after other options.
Then again what goes on behind the scenes concerning transfers stuff that we never hear about.

2.) 04 Nov 2024 09:24:10
Not good news at all. Rumours saying he's off to Forest.

3.) 04 Nov 2024 09:37:23
I reckon the BFG might get Edus job.

4.) 04 Nov 2024 10:06:16
Didn't see that coming!

5.) 04 Nov 2024 11:46:00
Highbury, don't even joke about that!

6.) 04 Nov 2024 15:43:57
Interesting news this, if its broken out now then it must have been going on in the background for a while, could this be the possible reason for the bad results on the pitch, for me this needs sorting pretty promptly.

BTW who is BFG.

7.) 04 Nov 2024 16:10:15
Not a chance this affects what's happening on the pitch. Why would it? It's not like he's the manager.

BFG = Big F'ing German (Per Mertesacker)

8.) 04 Nov 2024 17:54:30
If its happened suddenly I reckon it would unsettle Arteta Sharpie.

9.) 05 Nov 2024 06:34:02
Not sure why that would unsettle Arteta, Sally. I mean, they're just mates. Did City go off the rails when Arteta left? Nope.

10.) 05 Nov 2024 15:10:03
Fair point Sharpie, however a couple of months before the window opens might blow a blooming great hole in our ability to recruit successfully, if indeed that is what the plan is.
I reckon that might impact Arteta .

11.) 05 Nov 2024 19:36:49
He was the person that finalised the final deals with the players surely he would have a bond with the players and his vision would have been sold to the players when signing up. Now he is no longer there would surely impact the team. He may even try to tap some of our players over to Forest. ANy change at that level can huge impact on the teams mentality and they are a young bunch too. I hope they don't get ARteta to take control of Edus job too like they did to Wenger.

I heard Edu was not best pleased with Arteta in the summer due to him holding the club ransom that he would only sign a new contract if they signed him Fury and Merino. Neither had been recommended by the scouting department.

RD- yes, we're too good to be in the European Johnstone Paint Trophy. If you win it you’ve had a more successful season than us but definitely not a better one……
And good luck winning it, should paper over cracks that are the huge mess your club is in.

If the club did twist, who is out there that could improve us? Realistically I can’t see anyone who is available and is better than Arteta.
