David Ornstein
Arsenal have a strict financial budget.
Just because they missed on Morgan Rogers doesn't means they shift that money onto the offer for Bruno.
They have a strict ceiling for him and if they cannot get him within that financial ceiling they will walk away and explore other targets.
The above is not word for word verbatim but essentially it's what David Ornstein said.

The trouble is that budget was set before the ridiculous Anderson fee and it's clearly inflated the market, Arsenal must adjust accordingly.

Surely, after the success of last season, this summer of all summers, we can afford to be a bit extravagant, not careless, but just a tad more 'flash' with the cash?

2.) 27 Jul 2026 23:18:25
The budget needs to be in today's money, not 5 years ago money. Compete or shrink.

{Ed014's Note - just need O’Leary to join this thread and we have a full house ??

What sad news.
Alex Manninger has passed away.
Will always remember his fantastic performances in The 97/98 double season filling in for David Seaman for 12 games.
Only 48.
Thanks for the memories mate.
Rip. ❤️❤️

HighburyBill1956

{Ed025's Note - very sad Bill..

Raya or Arrizabalaga on Sunday, what we thinking Gooners?

HighburyBill1956

1.) 19 Mar 2026 09:10:54
I think it should be Raya. First silverware of season, go with our best XI.

But I do have a feeling he will stick with Kepa, as he has played all the games so far in this comp.

If it is Kepa, I won't be too upset, as we have a good defensive in front of him and he is no mug.

Interesting one is who will be RB and LB.

2.) 22 Mar 2026 11:33:16
Kepa for me. He's an experienced keeper, keeps him engaged and feeling valued, and it shows the squad that if you perform you'll get opportunities, so it's worth them staying and putting in the effort, even if they're not getting much time in the Prem. Plus, imagine if Raya gets injured.

£10 million fine and a 2-year transfer window ban suspended for 2 years.
The authorities really laid it on the line to Chelsea didn't they, e----- joke.

HighburyBill1956

1.) 31 Jul 2026 18:09:32
Yep, caught out for the cheats they are, but it's all good, they owned up! Still cheated though! Still, they can pay the £10 mill out of the £17mill they got for Maresca. Manager compensation is almost twice as lucrative as cheating. Lovely! And we are the cheats COYG.

Just been reading that Man Utd have ceased their interest in Alex Scott.
Apparently he is our second choice behind Bruno.
I read up on him and he has 3 serious knee injuries and came back each time, which he should be very proud of, but I wonder if that's the reason United walked away.

HighburyBill1956

1.) 26 Jul 2026 01:51:54
Think they walked away due to the price. Reported Chelsea bid something like £64m, and it was rejected, with Bournemouth wanting £80m+.

2.) 26 Jul 2026 07:27:12
Thanks for the update, Fuser, mate.
Take care.

22 Jul 2026 12:16:27
If Summerville has gone for 80 mill, then the market has gone truly nuts.
What price Gabi, eh?

HighburyBill1956

1.) 22 Jul 2026 15:03:06
Made me go Whaaaaaaaat!! So checked Bill and all I got was £55mill plus 5Mill to Saudi team. Not unreasonable for 24 year old Dutch international. £80 Mill would be bonkers. New sales talk is 2 x Summervilles = one Anderson or one Rogers. Totally agree, even at my figures, the game's gone. Until we spend gazillions on a LW, of course. Coyg.

2.) 22 Jul 2026 19:12:52
Hello Sussex mate, hope you and the family are safe and well.
My mistake, I didn't read the small print, the story I read had €80 million; I read it as £80 million.
My apologies, mate.

3.) 22 Jul 2026 20:30:43
Crikey, Bill, no apologies necessary! Anyway, I spend my whole life apologising to Mrs Sussex for stuff I’ve done, am doing, and am going to do. Always in the ?, just a matter of how deep. Come on, boys, let’s get creatively dirty like the Villains and Rent Boys.

Surely we have a hotel or a Walmart we can sell, or the girls team. We’re supposed to be masters of the dark arts, not from where I’m sitting. Coyg.

4.) 22 Jul 2026 22:26:32
Everyone and everything that is for sale is only worth what someone, somewhere, is prepared to pay for it.

I wonder what happened to all those old car tyres that people called art and sold for a fortune in the 70s. I'm guessing the buyers eventually ended up paying someone to take them away and get rid of them.

5.) 23 Jul 2026 04:48:39
Remember NFTs? ?

The Leipzig winger Diomande didn't really impressed me at the World Cup. So I hope we give him a wide berth. Rashford, as I have already said, I would not have a problem with.
Alvarez, I just cannot see this happening tbh.
Bruno, I would absolutely love but I have a feeling we are going to get trumped on that deal. Rogers was a lot of money for a player who wasn't a pure left winger.
Barcola, is another I just cannot see happening.

I think we are going to have think about what we pay for players, I was reading this morning that Spurs paid Brighton 52 million for Van Hecke and he had only 1yr left on his contract.
Tzolis is good business and Stones on a free would be also.
Whatever happens, I trust the process with Mikel and Berti.
Cannot wait for the season to start.
Take care everyone.
COYG.

I agree, mate. Keep in mind, we just won the league -- yes, we should upgrade, but it is by no means panic stations. imo our only signings should be ones who raise the level of the team, so obviously that they are a no-brainer - to me, these are Bruno (big upgrade on Norgaard and gives Rice/Zubi a rest) and Kroupi (to replace Jesus) .

No point shuffling the deck and risking squad harmony for no good reason.

2.) 22 Jul 2026 09:13:51
Absolutely, Wire, mate.
I would be well made up with Bruno and Kroupi.
Take care, Wire, mate.

3.) 22 Jul 2026 15:51:58
You too, Bill. Enjoy your summer.

Just wondering if any of the Eds can throw any light on how Chelsea are able to spend money like they have while under UEFA financial restrictions (i believe that is correct) apologies if I am wrong
Many thanks in advance to the Eds
Take care everyone.

HighburyBill1956

{Ed001's Note - the SCR means they can spend a percentage of all their income on transfers, salaries and agent fees. They will increase the amount via sales of fringe players. They have a huge amount of players to offload.}

1.) 20 Jul 2026 10:45:08
Thanks Ed much appreciated

{Ed001's Note - it no longer takes into account the last 3 years, just the current one, so that frees them up a lot as their previous losses are irrelevant now.}

2.) 20 Jul 2026 11:22:50
Cheers Ed??

{Ed001's Note - you are very welcome mate. Sorry I just thought about that last bit I should have added in the initial reply.}

They got Isak, Bruno, Tonnali, Hall, Livramento, so there's not much wrong in their scouting and acquisition framework. Eddie Howe is a decent manager, but imo a better calibre manager would have achieved more.

Sy, mate, we won the league, was 1 penalty miss away from CL glory. The players we are interested in were all in the later stages of the World Cup, they get extended breaks.
Rogers was 117 million, so, so overpriced.
If anything, Villa played Chelsea like a fiddle. Would be interested to know if Chelsea knew that our ceiling for Rogers was 80 million.

The 3 players mentioned, Bruno, Alvarez and Vini, are seriously expensive players, and it will take seriously strong negotiations and a lot of wonka. We are not like City and Chelsea, who clearly disregard any financial restraints or laws. We are the Arsenal.
Hoping you are having a good summer, mate. Take care.

Hello Gabi, mate, hope everyone and everything is good for you.
I am, like you, very doubtful over Vini.
But Bruno, Alvarez, and a r/b and a stop gap c/h, and we are ready to rip.
Just reading that Christos has clocked the fastest time in training, quicker than Gabi or Vic.
Take care, Gabi, mate.
Coyg.

That's a fair old wedge Ed mate.I cannot see it happening personally but you never know.
I read that Josh Kroenke is going to be more involved this year in transfers.

HighburyBill1956

{Ed014's Note - it will be a real push if it did happen, like you I can’t see it Bill.

Not sure in what capacity Josh would get involved as Berta is doing a great job.
