What sad news.
Alex Manninger has passed away.
Will always remember his fantastic performances in The 97/98 double season filling in for David Seaman for 12 games.
Only 48.
Thanks for the memories mate.
Rip. ❤️❤️

{Ed025's Note - very sad Bill..

Raya or Arrizabalaga on Sunday, what we thinking Gooners?

I think it should be Raya. First silverware of season, go with our best XI.

But I do have a feeling he will stick with Kepa, as he has played all the games so far in this comp.

If it is Kepa, I won't be too upset, as we have a good defensive in front of him and he is no mug.

Interesting one is who will be RB and LB.

Kepa for me. He's an experienced keeper, keeps him engaged and feeling valued, and it shows the squad that if you perform you'll get opportunities, so it's worth them staying and putting in the effort, even if they're not getting much time in the Prem. Plus, imagine if Raya gets injured.

I think that because we have been runners up 3 times on the trot, first 2 times playing open attractive football and last season throwing away 18pts from winning situations we have as a club taken the decision management and players alike to get over the winning line irrespective of how it looks.

No player has spoken out against these tactics and really this is the only reason I can think of why we are playing in this way.
Take care everyone.

If Fulham score first next week, we are in deep brown stuff.

This was the tougher of our two games - Newcastle have been on a terrible run, & I was hoping that was the game to get our goal difference up. Yet we lacked bottle and ambition again. We limped over the line with 7 players in the back 4 at times, because Odegaard dropped so deep, with Rice and Zubi there as well. We never chased a goal.

Vik looked terrible. Noni, just Noni. We still need that reset & mojo-inspiring performance. Well, it wasn't that game & Fulham will be tougher.
I still blame it on the boss - tactics & balls, along with no decent LW or CF option to play on a counter-attack or give us a threat on goal.
I'm actually missing Kai! It's that bad.

2.) 26 Apr 2026 19:56:30
We were horrible to watch. We looked like a bunch of under 12s, too scared to lose and not so called stars earning 100s of thousands a week.
Someone in the dressing room needs to tell Arteta, it's not bloody working!

Who has the backbone, & does he listen?

Perhaps he needs a lightbulb, or pretend the next game is a first date, or some other bananas he preaches.

My son-in-law has just me a podcast of a conversation Gary Lineker was having with Alan Shearer about Chelsea's debt
Unbelievable.

I know we keep saying it but Saturday's game against Newcastle is absolutely massive. Please let's not throw this away without a fight.

I am scratching at straws here. Do you think now the City game is out of the way, in a funny way, the pressure will be off and we can get 5 wins from 5?

HighburyBill1956

1.) 19 Apr 2026 20:17:39
I was also thinking on those lines, Bill, mate. I know City will drop points, but the big question is whether we will get 5 wins out of 5. The way we played today, and the pressure now off, maybe we can do it.

2.) 19 Apr 2026 20:35:28
Let's hope so, Highbury, mate. ?????

The way I look at it, Mikel has got this far with these tactics, so he ain't going to change now.
It's not pretty, that's for sure.
If we lose and they win their game in hand and we are level, it will be tight.
Looking at it, I think it's fair to say City have the harder run-in, with 2 tricky away games against Everton and Bournemouth, who are both in with a chance of European football.
They also have Brentford, Palace and Villa at home. Brentford are pushing for European football, as are Villa. Palace are safe, so they will have their eyes on the European Conference Cup, assuming they are still in it.

After City, we have 2 home games on the trot against Newcastle and Fulham, which we need to win against two teams that are safe from relegation and have no chance of European football.
Then a real toughie away against West Ham, who will be fighting tooth and nail for points.
Then comes Burnley, who in all probability will be relegated, and lastly Palace, who are relatively safe and still could be in Europe.
So there is room for twists and turns yet.
