Morning Ed002. It's been reported now that Edu has left Arsenal. Do you know why this is? Decision of the owners, Edu's own decision, etc?

DagenhamGooner

{Ed002's Note - I don't know why he has decided to quite I am afraid.}

1.) 04 Nov 2024 11:26:44
Hi Ed002, any early signs or indications who we might sign as a replacement to Edu? Where are has interest been shown?

{Ed002's Note - No, I think the discussions with the board happened very recently.}

2.) 04 Nov 2024 11:30:12
It seems that he has been looking for a broader role in a multi club set up (such as City Group, Red Bull etc. ) which would give hime full control over transfers. Evangelos Marinakis and Sokratis Kominakis who own Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos are looking to add another club in Europe and a South American side - and they have expressed a desire to perhaps pick up some of the clubs screwed by 777 Partners. They are also looking for an oversear. It does not seem an attractive option to me.

3.) 04 Nov 2024 12:29:26
Thanks for the update Ed. I know you weren’t Edu’s biggest fan in his first few years at the club. I don’t know who makes the transfers but I weren’t his biggest fan on some of the transfer dealing he was involved in - such as Sterling. Might be too early to say but do you have any opinions of who you think arsenal should recruit to replace him?

{Ed002's Note - I can tell you the names of some very good Sporting Directors but it is too early to say what will happen.}

4.) 04 Nov 2024 15:14:08
My guess is that it's better paid with more control. Good for Edu, he's done well with Arsenal, but I am a bit surprised by the timing. Is it better for a sporting director to leave after the summer when the hard work has been done? Perhaps he was doing us a favour not quitting mid-transfer-window?

5.) 04 Nov 2024 19:54:55
Hi Ed002, Please tell us the names of some good sporting directors that are available!

{Ed002's Note - Being available is really not important.}

6.) 04 Nov 2024 20:54:52
So can you tell us some names of good sporting directors according to you then Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - Luis Campos, Paul Mitchell, Florian Maurice, Monchi, Txiki Begiristain, Michael Zorc, Marcel Brands, Zubizarreta .....}

15 Sep 2023 12:19:22
Hi ed002, what are your thoughts with vinai leaving Arsenal? Do you have any recommendations on who Arsenal should look at to replace him? Do you know who Arsenal are loooking at? Loaded questions, really just want your thoughts on it please. Cheers!

DagenhamGooner

{Ed002's Note - He is simply an administrator, he is not involved directly with the footballing side of the game.}

1.) 17 Sep 2023 14:31:50
Cheers!

Hi Ed002, did Tottenham agree a deal with Brighton to sign bissouma?

DagenhamGooner

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

01 Feb 2022 00:52:06
Hi ed002. Thank you for your help to this January transfer window from all us arsenal fans. Can we get a summary of your honest opinion and thoughts of our January transfer business please :)

DagenhamGooner

{Ed002's Note - January is always a difficult time and the club remain in this strange position. Good news will come if top-four could be achieved. Huge changes last summer leave the club yet to settle. The situation with Marseille is tough. The need for forward will need to be rectified in the summer - the youngsters want placating or they will be gone.}

1.) 01 Feb 2022 11:26:57
Makes sense ed, not sure top 4 will be achievable, just don't see where we will get the goals, but hopefully we can integrate the youngsters now that the squad is thin and see if they are able to play those backup mins. Thrown at the deep end, bit unfair but I guess that's what they want?

{Ed002's Note -As an example, and like so many do nowadays, Khayon Edwards is demanding guarantees of game time and refusing to sign a contract. It needs resolving.}

2.) 01 Feb 2022 13:13:41
It's a tricky one Ed, is this a problem lots of clubs experience do you know?

Also, following the discipline of Oezil, Guendouzi, Saliba and now Auba will this strict regime impact on us signing new players do you think?

{Ed002's Note - It is a significant problem for leading clubs. There is an impact on signing players for those clubs that are less attractive, for whatever reason.}

3.) 01 Feb 2022 13:48:48
Thanks for the quick response Ed.

4.) 01 Feb 2022 09:02:41
Thanks Ed025. Would you mind sharing your opinion if Arteta's tough stance with Guendouzi, Saliba, Oezil and now Auba will impact how players will view coming to Arsenal in the future.

{Ed025's Note - i wish other managers would show the bottle mikel has sally, some of these prima-donnas hold the club to ransom and you have had more than your fair share, the likes of ozil, sanchez and now auba have been absolute scum bags imo mate, i really hope you have a change of luck and sign some players with backbone and loyalty to the club....but keep your hands off DCL.. :)

5.) 01 Feb 2022 21:39:50
Can't promise that Ed! haha

Think I must have got confused. I seem to have asked the same question to 2 eds ?.

6.) 01 Feb 2022 21:43:59
And good luck with your new manager Ed025, Frank seems a good fit for you.

{Ed025's Note - cheers sally..

7.) 02 Feb 2022 11:04:30
ED025 - I cannot agree with this comment enough. and I wish more arsenal fans would see this is what Arteta has been trying to do at the club. don't get me wrong he has made mistakes, but he is a young manager still in the first 2 years of his first-team managerial career, he is going to and this is what the club signed up to when we gave him his first-ever job.

I do believe he has done more good for the team than bad in his short time so far.

{Ed025's Note - i think he is getting there hampshire after a bit of a sticky start, he inherited some poor players as well and getting them off the books to bring in some quality is never easy mate, i loved him at everton and wish him and the gunners all the very best..good luck..

8.) 05 Feb 2022 03:43:51
Hey Ed. He may not fit into our system at all, so not saying he’d be a good signing… but are Arsenal looking at Dybala being that he’ll be on a free…?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

05 Nov 2021 16:25:30
Hi Ed, are arsenal looking to sign the Fiorentina Striker Vhalovic?

DagenhamGooner

{Ed002's Note - one of a umber of clubs.}

1.) 05 Nov 2021 22:28:40
Thanks ed.

Reports are coming out that Real Sociedad Sporting Director, Roberto Olabe, is leaving the club in June 2025. Apparently he is viewed as one of the best in the industry. Are Arsenal viewing him as a potential Edu replacement?

Hi Ed001, how are things with you? Just wanted to get your thoughts on Arteta as a manager as I know a few years ago you really didn't rate him. Has things changed at all, what are your opinions on him now. With jurgen leaving, some consider him to now be the 2nd best manager in the prem.

DagenhamGooner

1.) 01 Jun 2024 17:55:43
It is hard to judge him, he has had a huge budget and very little in the way of adversity to face. Until that happens, there is just no way of being sure. His speeches and stuff are the stuff of a madman, which worry me. They are nonsense jargon, a bit like Rodgers, which probably explains why he has done well with impressionable younger players, rather than veterans. He still hasn't stopped sorted out his obsession with buying players to fill holes in the team, rather than looking at what is coming through. Selling Balogun to keep Nketiah and Jesus as main strikers was seriously odd, though Havertz has done well as a false 9, it has left the club with no real option to him. Jesus has been so bad up front as a goalscorer that he has ended up on the wing and even then mainly as a sub.

On the plus side, the football is good and getting results, which is all you can really ask. And you can't compare against City as you have not been able to financially dope the way they have. For me, it is a bit like looking at Guardiola. Yes, Pep has and is a clearly a great coach, but until he has adversity and a lower level of funding to deal with, there will always be question marks over just how great he is. Arteta at the moment is in that camp. And that is harsh on him, because it is not his fault he was able to keep his first choice central defensive partnership fit almost all the time. But it is worrying that the one time Saliba was missing your season fell apart. It is also not his fault he has been heavily backed in the market, and it is noticeable that the side is improving with the spending.

He is doing well, maybe even he is the second best left after Klopp left. But it is hard to really compare him to others. Most are still new to the Prem roles for starters. I do question how long the club can continue to spend so heavily without a title though. Surely he has to see next season as the one, with Guardiola wanting to take a break from City, his eye will surely be off the ball a bit. There will never be a better chance, especially if Pep decides to take the break now. This could well be a defining season in his career, because he really needs to win it. Last season was almost laid on a plate for him, Liverpool were playing poorly almost all season with idiotic tactics and beset with injuries, City were not anywhere near their best, but it still didn't quite happen.

It is tough on him, he is up against a juggernaut, but he has been handed the tools to win and he has not quite got there yet. However, he is new to the role and learning, so it could just be that he needed another season to find the right balance. I certainly wouldn't be considering looking to replace him, that is for sure. He has earnt the right to have another crack at the title, at the very least. He just has yet to show he has the little bit of magic that Xabi Alonso brought to Leverkusen.}

2.) 03 Jun 2024 20:47:35
Perfect response ed, thanks for that. Always good to hear what those from the outside think rather than arsenal fans. Cheers mate.

{Ed001's Note - always welcome Dags.}

Hi Ed001. I know your know ramsdale's biggest fan but what do you make of this Ramsdale / Raya situation? I personally feel it is not a problem if Arteta brough Raya as the new number 1 but what do you think? People are blaming Arteta now for Ramsdale losing confidence and having a shocking game against Brentford. Cheers mate.

DagenhamGooner

{Ed001's Note - he had to change him, that I don't think is the issue, Ramsdale can't even concentrate on a match. Him and his dad have had far too much to say as well, which has proved Arteta right to want to change him, though it is going to be difficult to get much money back on him after their comments. The issue is that he brought a keeper in who is no improvement on him, in fact might even be worse. So it has become an issue. He will have to bring in someone else instead as soon as possible. But I certainly don't see Arteta as having made a mistake by looking to replace Ramsdale.}

1.) 27 Nov 2023 11:55:51
I just wondering with all this debate around Raya and Ramsdale and lots of people believing that Raya has not been an improvement and that it doesn't seem to be an upgrade and all the media's negative coverage about it and highlighting all of Raya's mistakes, which there have been a couple.

Not a lot is mentioned about the assured displays that Raya has had and some outstanding saves that he has made, but more importantly the fact that we have the best defensive record in the league and have conceded the fewest goals, I am not going to accept that is only the defensive partnership (Saliba and Gaberial) that has made that happen, it's the defensive unit.

Last season in the run we didn't have a problem scoring goals, but we let in some silly goals from some commanding positions as well, i personally don't believe it a coincidence that this season we have been less fluid but have been much harder to score against and beat.

I think Arteta has identified that as an area we need to improve on and actually while we do all have our opinions on the situation (i am also someone who would prefer Ramsdale to be No.1) the stats and fact sho that we have improved and are currently sat top with the least goals conceded and apparently still have not hit top form (i not sure that I agree with this, I just think perhaps that has been a slight change in how we are playing and rays is part of that change)

just a thought but i do think way to much has been made about the situation, and I don't think Arteta has made Ramsdale lose confidence, there should be competition for place. but I do think the media have made way to much about the situation and I think it gets way too much coverage.

I may have mentioned before but we have 2 young English GK at palace in Johnstone and Henderson who are about the same level in ability, but I have not heard that being made into a story about having 2 keepers battling for the NO.1 jersey.

2.) 27 Nov 2023 15:37:27
Cheers Ed. I think Arteta made the right decision replacing Ramsdale. I think Raya is better than him, and even though it hasn’t showed yet, I think over the course of the season it will be clear that Raya is the better keeper.

3.) 27 Nov 2023 19:32:46
Raya is better than Ramsdale but it just hasn't shown yet, I think a penny is worth more than a pound but it's just hasn't been accepted by thr International monetary fund yet ????.

4.) 27 Nov 2023 19:42:51
Basing off of past seasons in the EPL gunner62 mate.

5.) 27 Nov 2023 20:01:16
Fair play Dagenham mate, I'm basing my comparison on when you could but 2 pints for a penny compared to todays egg cup full of beer for £1 mate. It's all relative I guess, what was, was, what is, is and what is yet to be is yet to be seen.

30 Jul 2023 15:16:22
Hi ed001 hope you are good mate. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on David Raya. Strong rumours are arsenal are looking to bring him in (as our number 2) . Cheers mate.

DagenhamGooner

{Ed001's Note - he is a decent keeper and certainly looks good enough to step up a level. I just don't understand why he would want to move to be back up at Arsenal when he could get a gig as first choice. That for me would show a lack of fire in his belly and that is a worry. When you are competing for titles every player needs to be desperate to play and win. You should never be buying back ups. You buy players for the first team and then those in the first team have to fight for their place or become the back ups.}

1.) 31 Jul 2023 08:28:55
Would that not be the point of the move ed? To bring in a potentially better keeper, to either push Ramsdale or usurp him.

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal's interest is to give competition to Ramsdale.

David Raya (G) Won't sign a new contract. Not first choice, but was considered a good option for Manchester United before adding Onana - could still be considered as a Dean Henderson replacement but not first choice. Chelsea should not be discounted as they need to add a GK. Spurs stepped backafter adding Vicario and unless Lloris departs a move seems unlikely now. Arsenal offer an option but want him as competition to Ramsdale and may offer up a player in exchange. Brentford will likely get an offer from Bayern Munich which suits the player but will look to negotiate the price up a little.}

2.) 31 Jul 2023 10:43:27
I wonder if the club are looking to eventually have 2 excellent players in each position? It will be interesting i see how his 1st choice players react if that is the case.

3.) 02 Aug 2023 14:21:40
Thanks Ed001. As a GK do you rate him? I know you don’t rate ramsdale lol. You reckon Raya is better?

{Ed001's Note - yes, from what I have seen he looks an improvement.}

Sorry mate worded it wrong. Is there any truth Arsenal will make the loan deal for Raya permanent in January and make an offer to sign Toney on a loan with obligation to buy in January? (Because you can’t loan two players at the same time from one club)

DagenhamGooner

{Ed002's Note - What happens with Raya could be driven by Ramsdale leaving in January.

Ivan Toney (S) Brentford do not want to sell but are aware Toney may look to move up a step and will reluctantly look to perhaps £70M as a sale price in the summer but will price him far higher to try to avoid a January sale. Newcastle - if they can sell their project to him given - offer the chance of a return to the club who previously could find no use for him in the three years he was there. Arsenal, Leeds, Manchester United, Spurs, Chelsea and West Ham have all sent scouts on more than one occasion to watch him prior to his ban. Arsenal and Chelsea may well start talks ahead of January, but Chelsea have preferred options meaning Arsenal are likely best placed to complete a transfer but Brentford will want to wait until the summer. A wildcard might be Spurs.}

Full strength. Arsenal and Arsenal fans need to get out of this habit of “there’s bigger fish to fry”. There’s no pressure on Liverpool, all the pressure is on us to win. If we lose, we are on the cusp of a disaster. We have to win, and that’s how it should be for every arsenal game. 1 win in 6 games. Lads have to get the job done tomorrow, they don’t even have Salah.
