Has anyone heard of this rumour that Guendozi had a row with the coaching staff and Arteta on the Dubai break? I notice he wasn't in the squad for Sunday's game, so that might back the rumour. To be honest, based on his recent performances, combined with Ceballos performance on Sunday, he is sadly not missed. He is another Arsenal youngster who is in danger of having his career go backwards. His performances certainly have.

1.) 19 Feb 2020 10:36:51
That appears to be the case Epping but I think you're being hard on him. He's only 20 and the occasional bust-up is nothing special. I think there was a culture of entitlement that Emery fostered among many of the players so I'm glad to see Arteta challenging that ethos.

2.) 19 Feb 2020 13:19:50
I think most youngsters do have a rough patch, it's normal, maybe a spell on the sidelines will help him, he can be quite rash and his positioning is questionable.

Dropping could mean he has a boot up his arse, tries more in training and his performance goes up when he does win his spot back, worst case? He gets pi*sed off and leaves, we would move on quite fast.

20 Aug 2018 13:30:53
Much debate on what Emery needs to do, who he should play etc, but perhaps are we missing the single biggest potential difference he needs to concentrate on, and that's getting Ozil back to his best? With our current attack, getting Ozil back to playing something like what he achieved during his first season, and we will be scoring for fun, whilst alleviating some of the other worries such as our CB pairing or even Xhaka playing?

1.) 20 Aug 2018 20:10:14
Ozil needs to buy in to the way ww play, i'm not going to hold my breath but IF he does, happy days all round.

{Ed002's Note - Willie Wonker?}

2.) 20 Aug 2018 21:00:57
The way "we" play. Thank you Ed, damn my sausage fingers.

{Ed002's Note - I prefer Willie Wonker Steve. And I still have a slight fear it will turn out that way.}

3.) 21 Aug 2018 17:26:40
The problem is that we have very few players that would be capable of getting into the squads of the top four teams:
None of our keepers
None of our defenders: I would have said Bellerin, but he has been poor for a long while.
Midfield: Torreira, Guendouzi, perhaps Ramsey although I'm not convinced
Attack: Aubameyang and perhaps Lacazette.
Not a single player of ours would get anywhere near a Premier League best eleven. This shows the magnitude of the job Emery has.

4.) 21 Aug 2018 18:59:19
RG, i think the truth is wenger left a squad of players where probably only 4 or 5 are actually top four potential everyday performers, the rest are either not good enough or just too inconsistent.

5.) 21 Aug 2018 21:59:42
I think it's a case of working out what can be salvaged from what Dick inherited and then adding to that over the next two windows to form an 11 to 15 man reliable squad for next season bolstered by the best of the rest Steve mate.
It won't happen over night:-)

6.) 22 Aug 2018 09:22:21
It shouldn't be a case of our individuals getting into a pl eleven. We need to work as a team first as that is the most important thing. That may mean some bigger names not playing week in week out. Look at Leicester, Wales and Iceland in the euros. Its a team attitude that wins titles.

7.) 22 Aug 2018 13:45:57
Ahh Willy Wonker Ed002. A great right of childhood passage was to read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a brilliant book (and decent film, but only the original staring Gene Wilder not the utter trash made by Tim Burton) . With all the smut and adult like content constantly forced on children these days, what could be better than a harmless family story about a strange hermit like man who either chooses to lock himself in a factory with only a workforce of child like people for company, or who when he does finally emerge into the world only looks to befriend children. Now that's more like it, good harmless family fun.!

8.) 22 Aug 2018 20:30:18
EG, i would be very wary of anyone with a name like Willie Wonker, especially around children.

9.) 25 Aug 2018 00:58:50
Late to the post on this. But I have a strong feeling Dick has a half idea who he wants to keep and who to let go. I think the ones the jury’s out on he wanted to give enough rope to hang themselves with so he can eventually bin them with no resistance.
Cech who has my sympathy, is having to re-adjust and it could prove difficult due to his age.
And the likes of Xhaka et all, were played last season even though they were dump but still have that flicker of hope that, it was the coaching, that there was room for improvement.
Hopefully Dick will be given the freedom and he has the fortitude to bin the ones he believes offer no long term benefit.
Then I think we will see the likes of Torreria and Leno.

10.) 29 Aug 2018 13:37:21
I think the thing to remember about Cech is he is still a very good keeper, and has already made some important saves for us. Also, his experience behind the dodgy defense should not be underestimated. Currently, i think this more than makes up for the lack of distribution skills and is probably why he is still being played over Leno.

10 Aug 2016 15:02:50
Ok, so i am no ITK, but i caught up with an old friend recently who knows someone who knows someone who supposedly works at Arsenal and regularly sits in on meetings with Ivan Gazidis. So the story is that Ivan and the board only have 1 actual target (forward, no mention of CB) and are expecting two things to happen that they believe will result in the target becoming available. The first is for Chelsea to re-sign Lukaku, who then will allow Costa to leave. He will go to Athletico Madrid who in turn will allow Griezman to leave, who is the true target. Personally I don't believe this is true, as even if he did become available we would only bid £12.50 and a kitkat versus Chelsea and Barcelona and Bayern all bidding £80 million, but that's what i heard anyway, and as the saying goes you pays your money and you takes your choice!

1.) 10 Aug 2016 16:07:32
Stop being ridiculous.

2.) 10 Aug 2016 16:58:41
A lot of people are making the Costa to Atleti, Griezmann to us link.

Only signed a new deal this year, release is probably into the Pogba regions and I can't see them selling him for anything less than it.

I can't even see them signing Costa either, they already have Griezmann, Torres and Gameiro.

Even if they were open to letting him go, I can't see us being the only club to move for him, as you say.

That being said, I personally expect this exact rumour to pop up in the media shortly, it's almost panic season!

3.) 10 Aug 2016 17:51:04
I know someone, who knew a man who lived next to a boy who watched Arsenal last season . Apparently we have money in the bank

4.) 10 Aug 2016 17:57:12
Ed i know its not going to happen but any interest from us for lewandowski?

{Ed001's Note - do you think Arsenal would be willing to break the transfer fee record? If not, why even ask?}

5.) 10 Aug 2016 18:09:17
I didn't know it will be that much, i thought it would be around 60 million.

{Ed001's Note - why would they let the best centre forward in the world go for less than Higuain when Bayern have no need or desire to sell?}

6.) 10 Aug 2016 18:28:03
Apex seriously come on now 😂.

7.) 10 Aug 2016 18:53:40
I've come to the conclusion our friend Apex is actually Arsene in disguise.

As soon as one of the Ed's confirms a player would be interested in Arsenal, in he'll swoop with the pound!

8.) 10 Aug 2016 19:56:32
I wish I lived in Apex's world.

9.) 10 Aug 2016 20:11:23
Who knows Wenger maybe mad enough to do it.

10.) 10 Aug 2016 23:48:21
Some info regarding griezmann on the european page if anyones interested.

11.) 11 Aug 2016 09:48:29
looks like the offer for mahrez if lequipe are to be taken seriously is 41 mill and 9 mill in bonus, they quote in euros, so not sure if true as most transfers within this country would be in pounds.

guess that would be a lot of money to make for leicester and a massive profit, but i guess with every team flush with cash no need to sell.

12.) 11 Aug 2016 11:44:47
Hello ed, sky sports germany are reporting that a deal between arsenal and valencia is close regarding mustafi, any truth in this at all?

13.) 11 Aug 2016 11:54:28
Just to add to my post, the agent also said that a deal is imminent which is why I'm asking.

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of. Though he is available, I am not aware of any change in the situation. Clearly the agent is trying to remind people he is for sale....}

I know it could be slightly sour grapes, as we could have been there, but the European League Final was an absolute disgrace last night. Two teams trying to cheat each other out of the game, and Moaniniho showed his true class. I know referees are not great, but I really wish someone would have given Taylor a cattle prod or even better a stun gun to use every time players surrounded him or run up doing the fake card hand gesture. It's time players should be sin binned, not for fouls, as that's a legitimate part of the game, but for bad behaviour. Wave your hand to gesture a card should be shown, that's 10 minutes in the sin bin. This has to stop, otherwise it's going to spoil the game.

1.) 01 Jun 2023 22:34:14
I've seen Newcastle fans complaining about the antics of the players - when they speak up you know it's bad!

2.) 02 Jun 2023 08:07:40
Turned the Seville/ Roma game off
Got so pissed off with antics of everyone on both sides, players and touchline alike.

3.) 02 Jun 2023 16:27:26
Mourinho is an absolute disgrace. His pathetic antics inflamed the situation amongst the "hothead" italian fans. He's not the only one. klopp does it. And even arteta is guilty of overstepping the mark (to name a few) Players also responsible, with their fake injuries and histrionics
We cry out for better standard of referee, but, who in their right mind would want to step up to this scenario.

4.) 03 Jun 2023 11:03:25
Having a go at the ref on the terraces is obe thing but attacking and his family at the airport goes beyond the pail.
As for Mourinho.

22 May 2023 14:56:15
I think most subjects have been covered in the past couple of days, but watching the Forest game, to me highlighted once again that not having any CF in our squad who is both physical and wants the bell crossed into the box is a big mistake. At times in the 2nd half Forest we're virtually defending close to their 6 yard box, knowing that we won't throw the ball in or cross. The key difference between us and City this year is that they do a CF who is more than happy to head the ball. RM also defended deep and narrow at times against City, and City were happy with that, getting the ball easily to the edge of the box and then sending in the cross for Haaland to attack. We don't have that option, and so teams know playing narrow and deep makes it hard for us, and more teams will do that to us next season. So for me, after the rebuild of our midfield, i would prefer we sign a decent plan B striker, maybe not with the pace, but the height, and more importantly someone who feeds on crosses.

1.) 22 May 2023 15:29:05
A young Oliver Giroud would do nicely Epping mate.

2.) 22 May 2023 15:42:36
Bring back Lord Bendtner :)

3.) 22 May 2023 17:30:47
Actually Bill, you could argue a current Oliver Giroud would do nicely. Why we ever flogged him off for a fiver, I will never know.

4.) 22 May 2023 21:15:04
Shame Toney got a 8 month ban.

5.) 22 May 2023 16:26:36
I'f I'm 100% honest I'm quite pleased Forest put us out of our misery on Saturday and finally confirmed what most of us already knew deep doem in our hearts.

Once we got blown at City and lost control of our own destiny I always felt it was over and it was a case of when not if it became mathematically impossible for us.

6.) 22 May 2023 23:27:09
Yes Sparky I still stand by it that if we had bring him in January we would’ve won the league.

Despite his footballing abilities he’s not fazed. I believe he’s solid with a strong mentality.

7.) 23 May 2023 00:11:05
Those were the days! Everyone moaning we would never win the title with Giroud as our main striker. But still comfortably top 4 every year, sold him got Auba and Laca, more prolific strikers, but overall we were way worse. Giroud's link up play with Saka and Martinelli would be great.

8.) 23 May 2023 08:29:00
Giroud, If we build it he will come.

9.) 23 May 2023 11:11:53
IF I remember, Wenger allowed Giroud to leave to get more playing time so he could get into the French squad. I don't think Arsene wanted him to leave.

10.) 23 May 2023 14:27:23
Giroud was a fantastic option to have on the bench .
Remember being 2-0 at Everton and ge came on and got us a draw.
3 nil down at Bournemouth and we got a 3-3 draw and Wenger had a go at him for celebrating to long and using up the injury time.

11.) 23 May 2023 14:28:28
Was that part that Ray Liota played 62??.

12.) 23 May 2023 17:40:18
Yes Bill mate ????.

13.) 23 May 2023 18:18:39
We had to let Oly go to make signing Auba possible Sally, it was a 3 way deal between us Dortmond and Chelsea. Arsene didn't want to lose Oly and Oly didn't want to leave but I think Sven was very keen to bring in Auba if memory serves me right.

20 Mar 2023 20:29:10
I was interested to see the positive comments coming from Jesus, and in particular about the family mentality at the club and that there are no big egos. I think it really highlights the difference between what fans sometimes want for the club, and what the owners and management actually plan. Like others, I would love us to go out and sign the best, highest profile and most expensive midfielder and forward we can afford, but in reality, and based on Jesus comments, it's much more complex than that. It turns out that signing certain players could actually be damaging to the squad, even if they are the best in the role. We certainly don't want to sign some massive ego, no matter how good he is, and perhaps we need to be realistic that sometimes the best player for the club is not necessarily the most expensive or highest profiled player. Thankfully it is something that Arteta seems to understand.

1.) 20 Mar 2023 21:22:53
I agree Epping, I have always believed potential new players should be interviewed like in the real world as it's so important to make sure someone is likely to gel with their new colleagues and buy into the company ethos rather than what currently exists to adapt to accommodate the.

2.) 22 Mar 2023 09:24:12
Couldn't agree more Epping. I personally believe that is part of the reason as to why our players have a strong bond with one another. They know their role, they know their value, worth, tasks and commitment to one another and the club.

05 Feb 2023 16:50:46
Perhaps a bit harsh, but I think Aaron Ramsdale was at worst, at fault for Everton's goal, or at the least, could have done better. When you see where the ball was actually headed, it was well inside the six yard box, and any keeper worth his salt, really should be dominating any ball in that area, especially someone with England ambitions.

As someone who played in goal, the easiest of the crosses to come for are those coming to the back post, simply because the ball is in the air longer, giving you more time to both see the flight, and come for the ball.

Also, even if you don't catch it, or get caught slightly underneath, you just have to deflect it up for it to clear the danger area and go off for another corner. I think Ramsdale is a very good keeper, but maybe that's the trouble with modern goalkeepers, in that they are picked more on how the pass the ball rather than how good a keeper they are?

Looking back at some of our previous keepers, with Lehman and Seaman especially coming to mind, both would have come for that cross yesterday. It's such a vital part of the keepers job, as once a team knows that you come, they have to drop the ball further out, massively reducing the risk of a direct header being a goal. Sadly, it seems to be a dying art.

1.) 05 Feb 2023 17:14:43
Like you being a goalkeeper when I played Epping mate, I can see your point. Thinking about Utds second goal against us when the cross came in also confusion there.
I am sure Mikel will realise it is something that they should work on.

2.) 05 Feb 2023 17:18:09
True but Ode‘s abysmal defending at the corner did not help either - didn’t even jump or make it difficult

SD saw that the set up wasn’t working and changed how Everton were supporting the front man to great effect - good in game management, Arsenal however were getting battered in midfield. We decided to do nothing then take off our beast and replace him with a slow, not mobile, hardly dominating deep playing midfielder. That’s why Mikel still hasn’t completely won me over. Crappy man / team management.

3.) 05 Feb 2023 17:21:26
He pulled off some cracking saves yesterday though Epping!

4.) 05 Feb 2023 17:31:54
A striker misses 5 sitters then scores a cracking goal and he's a hero, while a keeper pulls off 5 outstanding saves and makes 1 mistake and he is suddenly the vilain, it's never made sense to me Sally but it's how it's always been in football for some reason ???.

5.) 05 Feb 2023 18:57:49
As a fully paid up card carrying member of the keepers union G62, I am 100% with you. Many times I see idiot “outfield” commentators criticising keepers for things such as being beaten at the near post, and other aspects of keeping they clearly know nothing about.

As a keeper I could assure to never being beaten at the near post by staying right next to it, leaving about 18 foot of empty goal on the other side and the easiest finish in the world for any forward. What also shows their lack of knowledge, was that no one questioned Ramsdale staying on his line for the goal, and more importantly, for the previous batch of corners that I think gave Everton the confidence to swing the ball in.

Sally, every top level keeper produces great saves. Our old keeper Fabianski has had a great career at West Ham based on just that, he is a great shot stopper. Growing up there were many great shot stopper keepers who were my hero’s with Steve Sutton being a particular favourite. However what really separates the men from the boys, at any level, is the ability to come and take a cross.

Yes you see players congratulate their keeper when he pulls off a great save, but watch the defenders reaction when their keeper comes and takes a ball in the air, dominating the box and saving them from having to clear the ball. It’s a different reaction, but of real appreciation.

These are the top keepers, and why despite dominating the Best saves of the season videos (yes they exist! ) the likes of Steve Sutton didn’t play for England, and others, like Ray Clarence and Peter Shilton did, as both were capable an all aspects of the role.

6.) 05 Feb 2023 18:59:06
yeah a lot of keepers are like that nowadays good shot stoppers and can actually play a pass but can be weak on crosses.

They can lack strength to dominate the area that they should be and often relying on the ref to get them out of trouble too much with a cheap foul. Modern football I guess.

I always like my keepers to be bigun's well over 6ft as it gives me confidence that they can control their area more on crosses.

7.) 05 Feb 2023 19:23:18
Leno fitted that mould ?.

8.) 05 Feb 2023 19:37:09
I have awful lot of sympathy, respect and appreciation for keepers Epping mate, always did when I was playing toughest Job on the pitch mate ????.

9.) 06 Feb 2023 10:30:11
Yeah it’s a fair point, however the defence really needed to do better too, he put himself on Ode, our big lads shouldn’t let that happen, also before he even got that far he brushed passed Saka who just let him go, it really was just an overall poor performance.

{Ed014's Note - no one came out of that game with flying colours and that includes Mikel.

12 Apr 2022 22:00:08
Can someone explain, but shortly before joining us, did Emery bang his head and forget he was a football manager for a couple of seasons? Watching Spanish football this season and Villarreal have been brilliant, and now they have just beaten Bayern Munich over two legs and are in the CL semi-final. This is a club that represents a town that has the same population as Clacton-on-sea! Always felt sorry for him when he was with us, but he really did look devoid of all ideas at the end, but really pleased to see him doing so well.

1.) 12 Apr 2022 22:15:19
Like players, some managers just suit certain leagues. Emery did nothing outside of Spain.

2.) 12 Apr 2022 22:16:59
Good ebening for him and Villareal though.

3.) 12 Apr 2022 22:24:45
Yeah, obviously Spain really suits his style, although I suppose you could say he has just had success in Germany as well!

4.) 13 Apr 2022 05:50:23
Emery is a quality manager,3 Europa leagues tells you something. First manager after Wenger would not have been a good time for any manager. Still managed to get us to a Europa league final despite having some players pulling his way.
I am genuinely pleased for him because he came across as a genuine really nice bloke.

{Ed0666's Note - a thoroughly nice fella. Didn’t get the respect he deserved due to xenophobic tools.

5.) 13 Apr 2022 10:31:28
I'm not sure they were xenophobic. I mean, if they were, they'd hate almost the whole team.

He definitely seemed like a genuinely nice bloke. And he also seemed genuinely out of his depth at Arsenal.

6.) 14 Apr 2022 13:16:53
If I remember right is Auba hadn't miss the penalty at the end of the NLD we would have had Champions league in that season.

I see Rice mostly sitting in the Partey role Banbury, so plenty of options alongside, including ESR, with Partey still playing plenty of games, but not the full season like he was forced to do this season, as we all saw how that ended for him. If ESR wants to play, being cover for Ode or Martinelli is not going to get him a lot of game time, and no one would expect Arteta to start him ahead of them, so he needs to prove he has more than that. I very much see him in the Ramsey mould, in that he is more a box to box type player who will carry the ball forward and run at the defence rather than being another Ode who will try and pass the ball through the defence, so someone who definitely offers a plan B when our passing game is being negated. If Xhaka goes, there is a potential opening for him, and then it’s down to him to show he could do it. I just wish we had given him a go in those last couple of meaningless league games.

I can’t help but feel our strongest XI should include Partey. I really want to see him play alongside Rice. Maybe on paper it would look defensive, but then so did Petit and Viera! Partey has shown he is more than capable of playing a more advanced role, and who better to have up the pitch to win the ball back quickly? However, I fear Arteta and management see him as a spare part, and are ready to sell in January to balance the books.

It was a cracking game Banbury, and well done to Newcastle. I really liked the way they got the ball forward quickly, instead of the slow, deliberate, possession at all costs way we attempt to play. As a style of football I just find it easier on the eye.

I think we need more physicality up front. As good as Jesus is, the ball didn’t stick when pumped up front yesterday. Teams are constantly allowing us to play in front of them, sitting deep, and then hitting us on the break. Lens will play the same way at the Emirates as they did last night, as does every other team. playing against us. While Haaland is getting all the press for his goals, for me, what perhaps has been overlooked is his physicality and ability in the air. It has allowed Man City to add a different aspect to their game by pumping crosses into the box if required. This gives them something else when playing against those same teams who play the exact same way as they do against us. Suddenly sitting deep and narrow and allowing the opposition to progress freely up the pitch while packing 5 across the back means nothing when Man City can start swinging crosses to Haaland, and I think we need the same. I am not sure Toney is the answer, but someone in that mould would make a real difference to us.

Injuries or not, we weren’t good enough. Spurs should be more disappointed at that result, if they had got the third, we weren’t coming back. We have a blunt pencil up front. Nketia can run, but he is no top level forward. Until we have better we will not win major trophies. Schoolboy defending from Saka for the first. Since when at any level do you try and defend and tackle on the wrong side. Do they not tell players to get goal side anymore? Poor teams give up goals at bad times, like 5 minutes before or after half time, or just after scoring. It’s poor as it shows the team is relaxing at the wrong time. Again something a coach would be telling 5 year olds not to do, but for me, it’s still a hangover from the Wenger days, work hard to get the goal and then relax. No work hard to get a goal and then double the effort after you score, hit the team while they are down. Disappointing performance, and therefore a fair result.
