There has been discussion on here about Martinelli, s present form. If Mikel was to drop him tomorrow night so you think he will react positively to being dropped or could he react negatively to being dropped.
What's your view people.

When the sun shines the tree will grow in the winter it sleeps when the wind blows does every leaf fall off, hahahahahahah thought I’d join the craze I just made that garbage up, i'd stick with him it’s not him it’s the full backs not helping him out tierney at full back and watch the difference.

Hiya Bill. For me, Martinelli has always looked to have great current ability and incredible potential, and has never done anything except work his socks off since joining. Undoubted talent and I think had an instant connection with Jesus who may have inspired but certainly complemented his game. Just a drop in form which Jesus missing might have made worse, but I've no doubt he'll take it exactly the right way. With Trossard joining, it'll be hard for arteta to keep playing Gabi regardless of form.

I'd stick with Martinelli Bill mate, and I really hope MA holds his nerve and doesn't give into the mummers of panic that have 's surfaced since the window closed and was followed by us dropping 5/ 6 points.

" If you can keep your head when all around are losing their's and questioning your choices and decisions, if you can stay strong and stand by those who have stood by you, if you can resist giving into the madding crowd when they are baying for blood, then and only then will become a great leader worthy of being followed by great troop to great victories in the really greatest of battles, young Mikel ????.

I think the obvious change has been post world cup, the main correlation being the absence of Jesus/ Tierney from the team. Jesus might not score a lot but his dribbling/ chance creation occupy the defense more than Eddie, and zincenko doesn't provide an overlapping run so most of the time martinelli finds himself double/ triple marked.

I don't know who I'd pick right now, but it's nice having two strong options, and an attacking threat off the bench, either way.

Interesting views, all that I agree with in some way. VM who has repeatedly said that the first choice FB don't help Martinelli enough, fair point.
62 who says stick with him, show loyalty and he will come good again for us, another great point and Sir Wenger who says he is missing Jesus and Tierney who overlaps but it's great we have Trossard on the bench
COYG ?????.

It's only in hindsight that any of us know ultimately what was the right thing to do Bill mate, if Martinelli scores or creates the winner tomorrow night all those who said stick will feel fully justified in their prematch views, but should the worst happen and we lose Martinelli won't far from the reasons offered for our losing the game.

If he reacts poorly then that attitude will impact us on another day - that’s where Arteta needs to earn his corn and yet to see how he handles a difficult player.
We have always said he must play best 11 on merit and so must be dropped. Arteta needs to handle the big decisions and aftermath but shouldn’t be afraid to make that call.

Hope I'm wrong SY but I'm beginning a bit of deja vu regarding Martinelli and Hector Belerin, Belerin was a fans favourite until the team had a couple of bad results and for some strange reason he became the fans scapegoat and things were never the same again.

Hopefully I'm wrong but the similarities are there at the moment.

To be fair Bellerin could never defend, cross or position himself. Bellerin relied on his pace and as long as that was enough we were ok as he had potential but his defensive play didn’t develop although his crossing did a bit. His weakness was exposed by a poor Wenger side who defended poorly.
I liked Bellerin but he had a flaw which was magnified due to the side he played in. Plus the game stepped up so pace was not good enough on its own.
I really like Martinelli but he’s still learning and while we are competing for League we need to be loyal but ruthless in selections so merit wins the shirt. I too hope we aren’t turning on him but my question is what has he done in last 3 games Vs Trossard to see who wins the shirt. I’d drop White also as he was useless and isn’t a 50m right back.
If we are to move into the big league again then we need to behave like a big club - which means players get dropped but I hope never victimised. Martinelli looks great and just like most kids is a little out of form. Perhaps it’s best to take the spotlight off him and play Trossard. No?
I also think we didn’t develop Bellerin well.

Just my opinion but can’t see Martinelli becoming a difficult player at least in the near future and MA dealt perfectly fine with Aubamayang and Ozil. Some may say he failed with these two big players others may say they achieved feck all once they left! Shame as liked them both but MA showed nuts and intelligence letting them go COYG.

Personally i'd play tierney today and stick with my man, then watch the difference.

Sussex - he loaned them out, page their wages and took a huge hit on value. Same with the young French guy. Surely we need a manager who can handle a difficult player. Selling Martinelli isn’t my idea of handling him but rather good man management. Surely anyone can get rid of PEA for peanuts but surely playing him in the right position, a more fast counter attacking style would have been better than a stuffy sideways slow approach which also didn’t suit Ozil…

Just the other side of the coin.

It would just be a shame to see Martinelli become the focus of fans frustration if everything doesn't go the way we all want them to go.

If we drop Martinelli and lose then who needs to be dropped next to appease disappointed fans anger? White, then who?

Mikel and these players have got us into a position that none of us ever expected to be in and personally I think they have earned our trust on the pitch this season, and let's face it even IF the worst did happen tonight and we lost the game we would still be level on points with City with a game in hand, that's the absolute worst case scenario! Poor little old us, just 20 points ahead of Chelsea, 19 ahead of Liverpool 12 ahead of Spurs and 5 ahead of United with 2 games in hand. Whatever team Arteta picks tonight is absolutely fine by me, he's earned the right and if he holds his nerve and sticks with those players who've got him and us where we are right now I will back him and them 100% at tonight's final whistle whatever the result is.

Up the Arsenal ????❤❤❤❤.

Ozil and Pea are history and anything that might possibly happen is for the future, our present is so fantastic why are we dwelling on the past or allowing fears for the future spoil what is?

Seems to me like laying on a beautiful beach in the Caribbean with a nice cold beer and spending all your time reliving and thinking about how wrong your boss was last week and Worrying about what your boss might or might be like when your holiday ends, you might as well have taken your awful boss on holiday with you ????.

Leaving the past where it belongs and allowing the future to look after itself sets us free to enjoy what is, and for us gooners, what is, is pretty fantastic ? how lucky are we to be involved in a top of the table clash tonight ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.

I'm not really sure how all the negative talk in the media surrounding Saliba and Martinelli helps in any way. I've always thought encouragement far outweighs criticism. I'm pretty sure everyone has periods when they are knackered/ a bit down/ not feeling physically great but if every time that happened people started saying I was rubbish hat wouldn't help at all. Some of the media comments are writing these guys off!
I think they are both great :)

100% Sally, the media aren't interested in reality because reality doesn't pay their bills, they need to produce sensationalism anxiety and problems in order to get people's attention and pay their bills

If we had totally ignored every media rumour in January, we wouldn't have missed a single thing that was real, we'd have just saved ourselves an awful lot of thinking about total media nonsense ?.

Personally I think Mikel will start with his same eleven and keep faith with them as 62 has said

Sy - is the other side of the coin but doing what you say we should have done may well have worked, while doing what MA actually did HAS worked and what trees has PEA and Ozil pulled up since they left. Chelsea crying out for a goalscorer and he`s left out of CL squad. The proof is there ( regardless of how much it cost ) we are much better since those two and others left. Would Jesus have joined if PEA still here and Odegaard if Ozil still here? Ronaldo became difficult - bombed out by ETH. They seem to be doing okay, especially Rashford. Of all the things I think good or bad about MA not dealing with "difficult" players is well down the list. PS we ain`t Spurs who wants to see fast counter attacking style - leave that to the trophy dodgers COYG.

{Ed002's Note - The reason he was left out of the Champion League squad is because he was expected to leave this month.}
