Hello Eds. Has there been any interest from arsenal in Giroud? And anything to imply we might be serious about Joe Worrall the forest defender?

JimGoon

{Ed002's Note - Giroud is out of contract in the summer Jum and as of tomorrow he can talk directly with non English and Welsh clubs - and several have already declared an interest. He would like to leave in January and Chelsea will not stand in his way and will ask only a reasonable fee for him. There is interest in him from the PL but I am pretty sure Arsenal has not spoken with Chelsea at all. Right now I expect Aubameyangadingdong and Lacazette will stay until the summer and with Martinelli that should end any need to add a striker in January - although the club have enquired after a couple.}

1.) 31 Dec 2019 13:28:23
Thanks ed2. I did wonder as a safe and cheap backup option if either of our lacadingdong strikeforce were to go.

{Ed002's Note - The point is that he wants to be playing on a regular basis at this point in his career.}

2.) 31 Dec 2019 13:33:40
Ah yes. Of course. Don't always think of things from the player's perspective. Thanks ed. Good luck to him to - I always thought giroud was under appreciated (even when he wasted chances)

3.) 03 Jan 2020 15:13:14
Please no, joe Worrall will not improve arsenal in any way shape or form. Suffered watching him last season at Ibrox cannot stand to see him in an arsenal kit also. Saying that we have heard that yous have had scouts at Ibrox this season. anyone know anymore info on this?

Hi Eds.
Are there any rumblings about us taking Cahill on a 6 month loan on January?

Although we're after top quality for longer term, with Baines and Boruc free agents in the summer, has arsenal shown any interest at all?

Lastly, with alderweireld's contract up in the summer, is spurs option for an extra year completely up to them, or does the player have to approve it too? Although I can't imagine he'd come to us, is there any interest from arsenal?

Thanks! And happy new year.

JimGoon

{Ed002's Note - (a) Gary Cahill is available and has turned down two options and priced out of a third. He would be a good option for 6 months if Arsenal really are that desparate - but they have (I think) four fit CBs so it doesn't make too much sense. There is certainly no agreement between clubs or with the player who knows another interesting option is due to be proposed when Chelsea meet another side to discuss a transfer on (I think Wednesday). (b) I would not hold your breath over Baines or Boruc. (c) TA signed a contract allowing for an extension, so he agreed to it. And no, Arsenal has no interest in him.}

1.) 30 Dec 2018 13:17:49
Personally, i think cahill will and would be a back up back up back up option, when all else has failed. I think we really are scraping the barrel, if we end up with three defenders over 33 and one at 32. We are desperate but that would be suisidal. I would rather we blood a youth than potentially end up with litch, cahill, kos and monreal playing in a back four, if we can't get decent quality in.

2.) 30 Dec 2018 13:42:43
Thanks Ed002.

I generally agree Steve, but if we're playing xhaka as a CB it might have to be considered and an experienced prem CB for 6 months on loan is low risk and hopefully wouldn't affect any transfer plans in the summer regardless of high wages.

3.) 30 Dec 2018 13:48:57
Ive read it would cost us upward of 4 mil with wages and fees. For the prospect of a combined age of 130+ in defence, no thanks, that would turn this site toxic.

4.) 30 Dec 2018 15:25:08
Fair point Steve.
.
More or less toxic and more or less costly than being short on CB, playing xhaka at CB and then finishing 6th or 7th though?

I'm not saying it's ideal, but if Emery feels the need to play 3 at the back ( and with hector out and Licht looking far from a calm head recently it's more likely imo) and we don't have enough players, I can't see many other options to ensure coverage.

5.) 30 Dec 2018 23:12:30
utd seem to have extra year options as standard in most of their contracts but other than this alderwield one i don't remember seeing too many others, is there a reason more clubs don't do it, it seems like a good policy, you don't take it up if its not working out and you can get an extra year if the player won't sign a new contract.

6.) 31 Dec 2018 09:54:03
Let’s go for Joe Worrall or Ezri Konsa

Two strong British centre halves with the qualities we want and age on their sides for the future.

Preferably Ezri if we don’t want too many youngsters.

We need so many positions that we can’t spend 50m on each one.

This along with Mavropanos and Holding gives us the opportunity to build a future defence.

Sokratis being the fatherfigure in the middle for the next couple of seasons. Kos could play that role also.

7.) 31 Dec 2018 14:40:23
I guess it depends on the club's plans Sy. Like you, I'm happy with Sokratis, and Mavraponos and Holding for the future, and tbh Holding and Sokratis are my first choice CB. but we still have Mustafi, Chambers, Kos. If we sign one of these two guys (who I'm sorry to say I don't know) would it be overkill for now and would it scupper any plans for a proven quality CB in the summer?

when city were being lauded for signing stones for 50m, after his first couple of games I thought 5m holding who I didn't know before looked great. Although a long way to go, I think he will be a great player so I'm happy to give them a go if you say so Sy ;) My only concern is that chambers looked great at soon and Mustafi and paulista good on paper. Do we need someone proven now? Why do you think these two guys?

Btw my s"#t phone, and I thumbed you down. Soz. Gave you thumbs up too lol.

8.) 31 Dec 2018 15:28:18
Ed as a new year treat, can i ask which club chelsea are meeting and for which player if possible? Thanks alot.

{Ed002's Note - I don't want to get in to it.}

9.) 31 Dec 2018 17:50:42
Fair enough can i at least ask if the meetting for chelsea player being sold or player chelsea want? Appreciate it.

10.) 01 Jan 2019 10:39:27
No worrIes Jim - happy New Year. Just been reading up about this se two and wanted a “British core” in defence.

I like Holding a lot so t have 3 or 4 youngsters with quality will set s up for a long good future like Liverpool’s young defence. Similar to Pool, we need a leader of supreme quality to lead the line.

04 Jun 2017 14:49:49
Are you aware of anything to suggest Ramsey, the Ox or Walcott might be on the move this summer?

I can't see any wanting to stay without knowing they'll get some decent game time. Although ox is hopefully getting that now, I understand there might be interest from at least 1 other club for him. Unless Ramsey starts alongside xhaka, can't see him getting regular time, and not a great position for him anyway. if ozil is demanding crazy money I'd let him go and give Ramsey his chance in the position. Theo getting even less time with new formation.

JimGoon

1.) 04 Jun 2017 16:49:14
No disrespect Jim where would they go?
Ox maybe to Liverpool but Theo on those wages, who else would pay him so much? Besides he had his best ever season with us last season so personally I'm happy if he stays but wouldn't be gutted if he left either.
Ramsey! Where would he go, who would want him? Chelsea Spurs Utd City Barcelona Real? He was awful last season and I like the lad but he has had one good season so far in his career.

2.) 04 Jun 2017 18:36:43
He's played out of possition though g62.

3.) 04 Jun 2017 19:34:31
True Sanogo mate but where is his best position? I'd say Ozils position myself and if Mesut leaves I'd be happy to give him every chance there.
He was excellent for Wales at Euro 2016, wide right he's poor and in the middle undisaplined usually which we just can't afford for him to be, he likes to try the spectacular which when it comes off is brilliant but apart from that one season more often than not he's wasteful through trying to much clever stuff.

4.) 04 Jun 2017 23:01:06
Hello Mr 62.
I hear what you're saying but I don't really know the inner workings of football hence my questions to the eds!

From a layman's point of view, if I were Theo and felt as though I was a decent player, I'd not be happy to sit on the bench behind Danny, Olly and Alexis and get limited games in the prem and some cup games in my prime years so I'd take a pay cut to go to someone like Everton or west ham if they'd want me and hopefully prove my quality. I really don't think he's happy just taking the money. I still wouldn't be surprised if he stays with a view to keeping squad depth though, but surely we don't want those kind of wages for a squad player and figured the club and him would want him to move on.

As for Rambo, I think it's similar to the ox who most had written off the past 2 seasons. he's been played out of position and shown flashes of his ability but let down by his defensive work. I think a lot of clubs would want him at a reasonable price and if played with freedom to get forward could still recapture his forn from his great season.

5.) 05 Jun 2017 00:58:04
Can see Walcott moving on. He had a decent season for us but despite the good stats he's just too unreliable injury wise. Ramsey I think has found his position next to Xhaka in that 3-4-3 and I have time for anyone who's won us two cups. Ox looks to be staying this summer, but needs to find his position soon, whether wingback, winger, or CM because his time is running out.

6.) 05 Jun 2017 01:20:27
Jim if you worked in london would you take a 50% paycut to move up north and drag your settled family up with you. Because that's basically what will have to happen.

7.) 05 Jun 2017 08:17:47
That's the problem we have Jim, we have given very high rewards to players who haven't really achieved all we hoped they would, every player would rather be playing than sitting on the bench but they are unlikely to take a huge pay cut and as Steve said move their settled family to get a regular game.
I don't think Theo is unhappy at Arsenal so it makes no sense for him to move anywhere unless a club that could offer him a regular place plus more chance of winning things plus match his wages.
I think when we all say get rid of this that or the other players we should realise a contract is a two way thing and while a player under contact can't leave without the club agreeing the club can't simply ditch a player who has 3 or 4 years left on his deal.
Bentner is a good example of this.

8.) 05 Jun 2017 10:19:21
Fair point Steve. That's why I thought west might be realistic, but why not palace as well.

And honestly Steve, yes I would take a cut. Better than 3 or 4 more years of a bit part when they could still earn decent money elsewhere and get a lot more enjoyment and see exactly what they're capable of.

Rambo and ox contracts are up next summer, part of the reason I asked, so perhaps if they don't sign new contracts they will have to go this summer? If they stay, I'd presume they are being told they will be getting regular starts which means no new central midfield additions?

Theos contracts up in 2019 though, when he's 30, so I guess if he stays this summer he's staying until then.

9.) 05 Jun 2017 15:11:07
Respect what you say but you are in a minority of people who would take a paycut and move to a less competative company. My opinion. Theo isn't unhappy, so that makes it even more unlikely. But who knows.

02 Jun 2017 16:30:12
Really hoping the rumours about the Ox to Liverpool aren't true for our sake, but if it's true, might be better for him and wouldn't begrudge him any success.

Personally I'd like to give Perez a proper chance too before selling him. I thought he looked good every time he played.

JimGoon

1.) 02 Jun 2017 16:59:17
I'm with you on the Ox Jim, if he's ever going to be all he can be it won't be with us unfortunately.
At Arsenal he's always subbed or left out regardless of how well he's playing, most clubs and managers have a player or a couple of players who for some reason they find easier to drop or sub than the rest and for us Ox is it.
Good luck to the boy I wish him the best.

2.) 02 Jun 2017 20:32:49
looks mint playing RWB. Unfortunately i believe he will play his best under a new manager, as Wenger has signed a new deal i can't see it being with us. New challenge needed.

30 May 2017 13:22:36
I saw one online football rag saying Alexis Sanchez will be given 100 million if he stays.

JimGoon

1.) 30 May 2017 13:29:52
hes gone mate. i just don't see it happening, we won't pony up the money but we will gladly take it.

2.) 30 May 2017 18:56:49
Money is one thing and we can throw all we have at Sanchez but the lad wants to win big prizes and compete on all fronts so let the bloke go and do all he can to realise all that ambition that so obviously runs through every vein in his body.
He's been great for us and absolutely no one has given more than him the last 3 seasons, if he goes it won't be him who's let us down and we should totally respect that and if he ever returns with his mew club we should give him a standing ovation.
No more bitterness towards players who leave to achieve their ambitions they couldn't achieve with us imo.

Excited to see ESR starting! Good luck fella - I hope you have a belter!

Just going to post the same thing
Jim mate.

2.) 30 Jan 2024 21:15:49
Thought he was excellent, really embraced that deeper role and played some very neat passes. I think he's shown he can be a positive alternative to Havertz. Love to see him finally get a start.

3.) 30 Jan 2024 21:34:23
Absolutely spot on Wire.

4.) 30 Jan 2024 22:49:11
ESR is a big fans favorite can he become an Arteta favorite? What we think and see isn't unfortunately what Mikel always sees and thinks.

5.) 31 Jan 2024 04:19:08
I dunno about that g62, he's had a terrible run with injuries and is now competing with a fit Martinelli. I'm not too worried.

6.) 31 Jan 2024 08:12:21
Hi Wire, I'm thinking Ramsdale Tierney and a few others and I'm not sure whether ESR is in that group or not where Mikel is concerned. I do know most Arsenal fans are also big fans of ESR but that doesn't always coincide with Mikels feelings.

7.) 31 Jan 2024 09:45:29
G62 what's your thoughts on if Tierney leaves? Mikel recently stated that the squad is thin, but has no desire for transfers this window. I'm wondering, with him and Tavares out on loan what he will do in the summer? Do we shift both of them? Do we need to then spend money for competition for Zinchenko when funds are needed elsewhere? Do we use other players for cover/ rotation?

Keen to hear your thoughts mate.

8.) 31 Jan 2024 11:30:36
We have Timber and Tommy to come back from injury, not sure we need cover.

9.) 31 Jan 2024 20:39:32
Hi Corbs I'd love to see us sign a proper LB, I don't believe Timberb is a natural LB and Zinch definitely isn't. In my opinion a natural out and out proper LB would be a very welcome addition.

10.) 01 Feb 2024 21:14:04
Hey 62, how are you and how's everyone.
Why don't you see Tember as a natural LB. He had brilliant start but were unfortunate with that injury. I think him and Zinch as a cover and we have Tommy and white.
I think we must invest on a striker more then anything else. And if partey was to leave we need someone with his caliber.
My thoughts only tho.

11.) 02 Feb 2024 20:33:26
Hi Moe mate, all good in this hood geeza, and you?

I thought Timber was a right back come centre back before joining Arsenal mate, he looked very right footed in the 45 minutes I saw of him.

06 Dec 2023 23:14:36
With all the GK comments I thought I'd chip in.

Ramsdale seemed like a great guy to have in the team and a personality on the pitch, but is everyone's praise of his ability due to him being an all round great keeper, or mainly that he made a lot of spectacular looking saves? I've seen commentary in the past from those with far more gk knowledge than me say he's a great shot stopper but was often out of position in open play and set pieces.

As for Raya, he was great at Brentford although he didn't look obviously lots better than rambo to me. He's clearly under pressure coming in to a tight group and taking a popular players starting position whilst also being backedwhilst making mistakes, but I'm wondering if its linked to Havertz and a plan B, or even just constantly keeping the opposition guessing. Against Lens I don't think he played out from the back at all - all long balls to the wing or straight up top. Maybe arteta thinks (once settled ( he's better positonally and provides better long distribution to Kai and the other forwards?

80s pop star Nena has predicted a 2 0 Arsenal win tomorrow night.

We only have to look at Nena 1983 prediction to realise that girl knows a thing or two about the future.

29 May 2021 16:44:54
Last one!
Forwards - Laca is immense. I would keep if in any way practical to do so, but sounds like the money means we want him to leave, but age/ fate might see him stay so Auba is 1st choice up top or left forward.

Saka is already 2nd on the team sheet behind KT, probably mostly left wing. Pepe has shown us he's settled and needs to be first choice right fwd/ wing. Martinelli could be a future legend, and a great rotation option with saka and up front.

Eddie who i hope will have no issue staying to play off the bench, and maybe Balogun to start getting some game time too means we have some cover. ESR has shown he can play wide too if absolutely necessary.

Willian likely leaving means we don't have lots of options covering wide though unless we keep AMN and Nelson, but they are both going to struggle for game time. If Laca goes, then we probably need a long term replacement for auba. if that might be martinelli, great, (I don't think Eddie has shown enough to be considered any time soon) , but then we need to be giving balogun and Eddie more game time this season to prepare them for the season after.

So, after all of that, for me its using our DM options or a genuine upgrade, plus buying KT's fighting fit twin brother at RB that we need to be focusing on, and a plan for LB cover. Only doing anything with the forwards to manage youth development and finances.

Well done if you read this far. Why? How? Hahahahhaaha.

JimGoon

{Ed014's Note - I read all Jim, liked what I read too.

1.) 29 May 2021 17:00:48
Good post Jim 👍.

2.) 29 May 2021 17:42:58
Thanks ed and ox. Just thought I'd contribute to the madhouse as haven't in ages.

3.) 30 May 2021 03:51:12
Great Post and agree with most but who realistically can we sell and make a profit and who would really want to join us as we are no longer the team we used to be .
I would sell anyone that doesn't buy in to the new tactics and then promote as many youth players as nessary and players that actually want to play for us .
I have played in many teams and the best ones where not the ones with the best players but the ones with the players who where committed to the team, hence why I say I. say get rid of the pre mondanna as bring the youth through even if it takes us 5 more years to start competing again.

4.) 31 May 2021 13:41:35
I've never played anything more than Sunday league but I agree beefy.

29 May 2021 16:31:47
Central and attacking mid - the criticism of Partey is unfair. He's a nailed on starter next season imo, so it's about complementing him (not in a g62/ Chambers way) .

I thought he would be more defensive but seems to play further up, so don't know if that will change next season or if we need a defensive focused partner in midfield?

Odegard got better as the season went on, but if its him or our young players, I'd not try and get him back. ESR is a nailed starter, and think he should be our # 10. He may not be anywhere near ozils reading of the game and passing, but its a team game, and with the right movement around him and his ability to dive forward, pass and shoot, don't see an alternative who is guaranteed to be better that is affordable and worth it.

Willock never had a long run of games, has gone on loan and shown genuine ability so must be given a chance to play, or be sold. i'd keep him and play him, but he's not a DM. I think Torreira could still do a job next to partey but I saw that he's likely to be sold.

Guendouzi won't stay back enough and attitude issues so has to go. Chambers has played there and might be solid, but not tested and might be too important a position to gamble on. Elneny was 5 million, has been reliable and shows heart, so a definite squad player and backup for there.

Xhaka can do a job and is a great squad player and might be happy to play that if he was captain again, but he's not reliable enough. AMN? I really don't know. I like him, and he's grafted at west brom and might be more defensive now, but don't think he'll be trusted.

Does anyone have a view how close Ben sheaf is to being able to start to get game time? All of that means we have a decision to make about a central defensive midfield or box to box partner for a double pivot for Partey.

JimGoon

1.) 29 May 2021 17:02:30
Another good post Jim boy BUT the only thing I will say if TP is the more attacking of the two CM then he needs to improve his shooting mate.

2.) 29 May 2021 17:02:31
All of know is Partey was a good player before he arrived Jim and it seems highly unlikely he lost all his abilty on the plane over from Spain to England.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say Arsenal will finish in the top 4 again within the next 3 seasons, I've no idea who our manager will be when it happens or even who will be our owners or who will or won't be an Arsenal player when it happens.

If we haven't finished top 4 by the end of the 2024 season or before I will do 40 hours voluntary work for the charity or good cause of the majority of posters choice.

Positive change is coming of that I'm sure, it's only the how that's impossible to predict right now.

3.) 29 May 2021 17:39:55
Ox, I know what you mean about Partey. i'd be happy with goals from him, but more than happy if he keeps things ticking in midfield and helps with quick transitions which he seems to. Just lose the few mistakes.

62,yep. I'm with you on Partey, but not sure about top 4. Man c, Liverpool and Chelsea have top 3 to themselves unless egos get in the way. Man U pole positon for 4th. I do genuinely think we have better individual players than Leicester, Everton, spurs (without kane) , West ham etc, but they play better as a team, so we have work to do.

4.) 29 May 2021 19:09:28
Hi Jim, your of course right mate the current top 4 is pretty solid but the heat has just been turned up on the want to be CL clubs like ourselves.

The league cup no longer carries a Europa league place so now the only way guarantee even playing int the European B league competition is win the FA cup or finish 5th in the premier league.

In my opinion the safety net getting smaller will raise the premier league bar place finish considerably.

I Mikel can't make us 5th place competitive next season he will be replaced and if he is replaced then I don't see the Kronkee's or the consortium going for an unproven manager again, I think this time they will chase the very best possible next time, that is of course IF Mikel doesn't use next season to prove himself up to the job himself.

For me, with or without Mikel or the Kronkee's the tide that's been carrying us backwards for so long now will finally turn around in the next 3 seasons.

Either than or I'm going to be giving up a few Saturdays to help out somewhere 🖒.

:) Well, i can't say I watched Liverpool a lot, but I was impressed by coutinho in lots of the games. Barcelona has really shown his deficiencies though, or more kindly, that you don't get anywhere near the most out of his skills when everything isn't set up to play to his strengths. Old Poggles on the other hand seems to have everything, but that includes an ego, and its that which seems key to him as a player. i'm worried that fernandes was exactly what man u needed for poggles to work off and show he's better than.

I thought coutinho was sublime at Liverpool, but he was given free reign because of the hard work of the rest of the team (like firmino) . Glenn, I have to agree with Mokey. I think ozil is technically better than coutinho and he would suffer the same fate as ozil - not enough in place to get the best out of such luxury.

JimGoon

{Ed047's Note - not anywhere regularly enough for me Jim and Özil a much better player, when he actually plays.

Coutinho is a perfect straight swap for Pogba for me, two totally over rated and over priced players if ever I saw them.

Hiya 62. Yeah. Shame about theo not being played through the middle earlier. As for injuries, with him, Aaron, jack and the ox I can't recall how often they were injured (well, Jack I can) but as they were injured whilst employed by the club, the club had some responsibility and with Wenger's loyalty, took some wrong decisions.

With Tierney, the club made a decision to sign him with all the injury information out there. If they get rid now, the decision makers to sign him need to go too.

Hiya Bill. For me, Martinelli has always looked to have great current ability and incredible potential, and has never done anything except work his socks off since joining. Undoubted talent and I think had an instant connection with Jesus who may have inspired but certainly complemented his game. Just a drop in form which Jesus missing might have made worse, but I've no doubt he'll take it exactly the right way. With Trossard joining, it'll be hard for arteta to keep playing Gabi regardless of form.

I'm dying to get some insight in to Arsene's perspective. I just thought it weird (disappointing? ) that only pro wenger players are in it. I loved AW, but would have liked to see Adam's comments addressed about completely ignoring AW's instructions sometimes, or some critique. I guessing there won't be much of that which is a shame as I think arsene could have Justified his decisions.

My grandad was a butcher, but I've been vegan 25 years.

For meat substitutes I'd recommend the 'This' isn't bacon sold at tesco, sometimes Holland and Barrett, but most supermarkets now - the company used to specialise in regular bacon, so know a or two about it. Can often find it for around £2 for a pack of 10 slices.

Also, the 'Beyond Meat' burgers are the best I've ever had. Often £5 for a pack of 2 but I hold off until the deals of £3/ £3.50 a pack in tesco etc.

Lots of overpriced vegan stuff, but other things like the Swedish Glacé ice cream at tesco for 2.50/ £3 a big tub and they've been going since I've been vegan.

But loads of great non meat-substitutes now.
