So Independent review committee says the Newcastle goal should have stood. Wtf

They said both sides should have had a player sent off. Ok.

To be fair mate, pundits and public alike are split 50/ 50 on whether Newcastle goal should have stood or been disallowed. I personally think it should have been ruled out but opinions are very divided on the subject.

I think the one thing most people agree on is Mikels post match rsposene and comments were completely OTT and the club's backing of his words a full 36 hours later let image of The Arsenal down badly.

We were once renowned throughout football for our dignified way of going about things and this entire episode has let the clubs name down in my opinion.

Hello John and Sy, like you both I think the goal should have been disallowed. Artetas comments have come within minutes of the end of the match where he is not in a good place, angry with the goal being given, also angry with our teams performance even though he doesn't mention that fact.13 shots on goal only 1 on target, umpteen corners nothing and Raya flapping at the cross. Havertz lucky to stay on the pitch as was Bruno. Bottom line is that Mikel thinks we have played rubbish but if not for a VAR error we would have come away with a point. The people at the club now are not the same as your Hill Woods, Bracewell Smith, Danny Fitzman and of course David Dein who would probably not have released a statement like that and perhaps not let Mikel go into the press room straight after the game. I
Dont think I am criticizing the present people behind the scenes but they have different mindsets to what was about 20 to 30 years ago. I have already posted on here what I think of the pundits view.
We bounced back well and looked good despite our worrying injury list.
Apparently Saka injury not to serious.
COYG.

So hold on - we've long been able to be critical of all bodies and organisations. Wronged by the police and it's your right to be critical. Wronged by a court and it's your right to be critical. Wronged by the state and it's your right to be critical. But whatever you do, don't be critical of a referee or the PGMOL. THAT'S a step too far.

This isn't just an Arsenal problem. A number of clubs have suffered their ineptitude, and we're not even halfway through the season.

Sure, we once lived in an era where people were more subservient. You may call it respectful, but really, no on was "respecting" wrong decisions. In any case, this is not that era.

Referees and the PGMOL should focus on doing better, instead of trying to muzzle managers and players. Clubs and fans pour money into this great sport of ours and deserve better.

This notion of swings and roundabouts would be a nice one, if it were true. This isn't like flipping the same two sided coin 10 times with a probability of hitting heads 50% of the time. This is more multifaceted.

Sharpe - I agree and I think after the Brentford game he should have done the same however he should have added our defender was terrible, goalie flapped and attack was limp and useless if he was being really honest. I like seeing his passion but don’t be 30% honest. At least say I didn’t see it and smile.

Club statement was fine and didn’t step over the mark.

Under that same regime they painted a fake stand with a white crowd. Had a captain who went to jail, a player done for stealing rubbish at Heathrow and plenty drunken parties. We did have honour and some great values but we were never perfect. ?

Enjoy your Friday gents.

{Ed014's Note - no manager is going to say that stuff in public SY, you know that!

I get the impression that you really do look for a downside in everything about the club, manager and squad.

I get we can be critical and we all have differing opinions but Arteta didn’t arrive in the Premier league at a starting point of Guardiola and Klopp.

He is new to this game, he doesn’t have the vast experience they had.

This team is young, is growing and developing and we can see the owners are supporting all of this.

This doesn’t mean, as I said, we can’t be critical but aren’t the club finally heading in the direction we’ve craved for since the successful Wenger years.

Have a great weekend mate.

Well said Ed

When we was winning on Wednesday and played good football there was no sign of people who slag of the club on live chat.

{Ed014's Note - I know mate and we can all have a moan and still have concerns but we are so clearly on an upward trajectory that hasn’t yet finished, it just seems daft to be soooo negative about the club when they’re getting so much right.

I will have to join live chat.

How do I do it.

{Ed014's Note - absolutely Bill, it opens an hour before kick off and stays open an hour afterwards although we normally always say goodbyes at the final whistle.

At the top of the banter page below the log out and profile buttons, you’ll see some things highlighted in red, rumour form, arsenal banter 2 and Arsenal discussion posts.

On match days you’ll see another highlighted link alongside these to “Arsenal live chat”, just click on that and it will take you to the live time chat box, you may have to log in again when you get there.

See you there tomorrow! ???

I was out on Wednesday Mal - sorry ?

Ed - I think I’m kinda sticking up for the club @ didn’t really have a jab at Arteta if you read it with a bit of sarcasm.

Of all my posts - this is the one that you think is negative.

I’ve said I like his passion

The club picked him and invested heavily. He’s there at the head of a huge club and many many people are highlighting the same challenges with him. I’m not making anything up. Saying everything he does is excellent, we are playing superb football and every move in the windows have been perfect etc etc is lieing…. I didn’t make him sign Kai or play Partey at RB or not replace Granit. That’s not an intelligent person’s decision and Arteta is intelligent with a super footballing brain.

Appreciate the response and hope you have a super Friday.

{Ed014's Note - hi SY, there is a tone of negativity it all of them SY, it’s your opinion and I have no issue with that at all.

It just seems sometimes you look for a negative and don’t get me wrong Arteta makes some poor, in my opinion, decisions.

One that I don’t get is over playing Saka, he should have been subbed off first against Sevilla, he’d been kicked all over the pitch.

I too think Havertz is a huge down grade on Xhaka but there’s so much more to be positive about.

ETH said this week he’s waiting for VAR to go United’s way! Genuinely! Was he not at wolves first game of the season! Sure Wolves and Pool happy for him COYG.

{Ed014's Note - maybe that bald fraud could try getting that crap squad to play some football rather than blame VAR.

I guess VAR is levelling things up after years of Fergie time! ?

I just remember always saying the bad decisions even themselves out over the season. To counteract that we introduced VAR where we are now saying VAR decisions will even themselves out over the season! It will be interesting to see how MA reacts should we get a howler in our favour - we’re due one! COYG.

Personally I'm more happy with the cubs investment in player's, the raising of the bar on ambitions and the performance and achievements on the pitch.

I personally don't like seeing the image of The Arsenal tarnished by over emotional claims and statements that make us appear to be unable to accept anything that doesn't go our way and look and sound like whingers. When your losing with a fee minutes to go you have to compose yourself and be ready to be humble in defeat as well as victory.

Last seasons buzz word from Arsenal was " we are humble ", I saw no sign of humility from Mikel after the game or from the club 36 hours later. Sometimes you've got to practice what you preach and be as humble in defeat as you are in victory, well you if you want your claims to have any credibility.

I get what you're saying g62 and there's a lot to be said for being dignified and gracious in defeat and moaning after a defeat does seem like whining and making excuses.

But it surely gets to a point where you've got to say, what's going on?

Fans of one club or another every week are saying what's going on?

I'm pretty sure other managers have been kicking off too, O'Neill, Klopp, Ten Hag off the top of my head.

But also the managers are required to do an interview straight after the game, when their emotions are still high, you can't expect people to always be composed in those situations.

Generally they're composed and very guarded because If they do criticise the referee they get fined, which is bs, I want to hear their true opinions, not platitudes and soundbites, otherwise what's the point.

Hi Eden mate I totally agree something has to be done about var decisions they are doing absolutely nothing to improve the game in my opinion. And I definitely get that emotions are running high but although we believe we were wronged much of the public and pundits don't believe we were wronged at all so the decisions were debatable rather clearly wrong. Being a manager in any business comes with a huge responsibility as you are representing the club or company you work for and if you going to make very strong claims and criticise others very publicly surely you need to be proven right in order for those strong words and claims to be considered anything but sour grapes bad and unable to be disappointed but dignified in defeat.

Unfortunately Mikels his very strong comment's last Saturday nigh got an awful lot of attention and headlines and his strong words needed to be backed up with strong conclusive evidence but unfortunately the exact opposite has happened and the whole series of incidents now simply look like continuous decisions that just didn't go our way on the day and leaving Mikel and the club looking like bad losses who are unable to accept defeat without whinging. Its not an image I personally like for our club to have and I prefer to let other club's and their managers have that reputation and for The Arsenal to be respected.

Respect is rarely gained by staying silent in the face of wrong, whether perceived or real. Respect is gained by standing up, being vocal, and forcing change.

Being offended by criticism is the crutch of the weak. Using criticism as a catalyst to improve and do better is more rewarding and that's exactly what the PGMOL should be all about. On what planet (besides dictatorships) is it ok to silence people, and then have the audacity to fine them if they speak out?

In this specific case, pundits claiming that to be the right decision to allow the goal are either idiots or they are being seriously disingenuous.

I'm happy with the club standing up and being counted. I'm happy with the club for expecting better from referees.
