I see an ex keeper of ours got voted goalkeeper of the year

That’s a decision that still baffles me, why sell him to Villa.

He got that by winning the World Cup, he’s not that good, much like Messi winning the big one over Haaland, some what of a joke.

And Ramsdale was voted 8th best in the world.
Tbf these balloon door awards are nonsense.

because at the time he wasn't displacing Leno and he had just won the World Cup with Argentina, let's not pretend that we got rid of our best player just because he won something that had nothing to do with club form.

He has also cost villa in games (the one against us springs to mind) and was at the club for years under several a couple of managers and never became no 1.

we sold him at the right time and he has gone on to be a decent keeper.

He’s better that what we have now without a doubt and Stoner you don’t play in a World Cup winning side of you are crap.

Hamps no one is saying we got rid of our best player but we got rid of our best keeper for sure.

I’m not saying he’s crap, he’s 100% nowhere near the best keeper in the world though and never our best player.

Not sure how you make him better than Raya who had far better stats than him last year when Martinez effectively won best keeper in the world!

He was 100% better than Leno and could play Arteta’s style of football requirements from a keeper which Leno 1000% could not. That’s the frustration as it was stupid. Leno couldn’t be our keeper but Emi could but we sold Emi and haven’t upgraded on him. We then sold Leno for a fraction of what we could have got at the time and spent more on current crop of keepers. Go figure.

Leno was injured and the long serving number 2 keeper got his chance and took it brilliantly.

The club had a dilemma, the former number 2 keeper was no longer happy to be second choice so we either backed the proven Leno or gambled that Martiniez wouldn't be another Akex Maninger who was previously a hkf season wonder.

Hindsight, if only the bookies allowed bets on last weeks results.

True 62 but Leno could not play the style Arteta wanted him to. Suddenly Number 2 came in and could. Leno should have been sold and plenty were saying that on here without hindsight but rather based on performances. Leno was a shot stopper but couldn’t command his area, boss defence, catch a corner or play from the back at the level we needed. Emi looked like he could. The gamble was sticking with Leno.

World cup wins count for a lot and he did well, but for the way we want to play, I think Raya is better than Emi was/ is.

Hi SY mate, at the time I'd have done exactly the same as MA but in hindsight I'd have done the opposite but that ship sailed years ago mate so I personally prefer to think about Raya v Ramsdale as it's relevant while Leno v Martinez has gone the way of the Dodo, high waist band trousers and tank tops ?.

Very true and no point getting frustrated about past stupid decisions. It’s just things like that and many others that make me not understand the blind - trust the project or don’t question Arteta on anything as he’s always right. I like him but he’s not God or Jesus

Hope you are well and don’t worry, I’m happy and stable ??.

I am pro Arteta and at the moment am trusting the process. But I am not blind. The bigger picture is the important thing not the tiny picture ie one game / mistakes in one game. I don`t think there is much difference between Ramsdale / Martinez / Raya so a moot point. I want Havertz to come good as I did with Xhaka but it took ages for Xhaka and I think we are now sitting at a different table and I think MA patience will wear thin. We don`t know on a day to day the niggle/ injury status of each player and that coupled with the paranoia I believe he must have where we finished so badly he is trying to rest / save players. Make sure we are there or there abouts in March/ April and finish with a full squad no injuries and not knackered. Plus we have to incorporate CL where unlike last year we cannot rest players as a better standard of opposition. At the time MA believed Havertz was a good buy which shows either a lack of judgement or the right decision - let's say the decision is not helped by Havertz himself! MA has bought brilliantly Rice Odegaard Trossard Jesus Tomi White and Timber maybe but Viera Havertz and the Raya situation not so good but you can`t have one without the other. So we have to take the good and bad together or get rid and accept what the next guy does or it`s rinse and repeat like United ( what a ****show that is) . It isn`t blind faith as he has made mistakes but in my opinion the good outweighs the bad and no replacement would be perfect but we can criticize if he deserves it but I like to think he is hard on himself anyway. As an aside Zinchenko is not at it but is this because of the war in his country see also Mudryk. Must be a terrible strain. Remember we are two points off the top and in good shape. The two keepers is the biggest gaffe I think and one will go in January COYG.

Our right there Sussex with the transfers,
You can do all the scouting all the preparation and it can still go tits up, it's a gamble don't matter who the player is and what you pay for him.
Wenger over his 20 odd years bought some right stoomers.

I never worry about your stability SY mate ? but i do worry you might be allowing yourself to be too upset and affected by things that you can't conntrol or change sometimes mate, I made that very mistake with Arsene and it's 100% a fools game that if I could rewind the clock I'd never allow myself to get involved in again. To each their own my friend but don't stray to far down the rabbit hole of being angry about things you cannot change, life really is to to waste on being too angry for too long. A poster years ago quoted the Frozen song " let it go " to me, wise words I really should have listened too ???.
