Just read an article on the internet. Obviously Wenger is unhappy with the defensive crisis but here is an extraction from it as to the cause and I would like to point out the only explanation he gives in his defence:

-Wenger admits health issues and injury problems have created a tricky situation but is adamant that he did all he could to sign reinforcements in the summer.

"We have been unlucky to lose Monreal and Debuchy but it's very difficult to buy defenders in this market, " the Frenchman told reporters.-

There you go now. All is forgiven.

It's an incredible world we live in when the common working man whatever his job may be. Would most likely face dismissal or replacement for offering such a flimsy and childish excuse as to why they could not preform the task they have been employed to do. Yet when earning 7/8million a year with millions of pounds in revenue and the hopes and dreams of Arsenal fans the world over dependant on you performing to the absolute maximum of your ability, this is seen as an acceptable excuse.

These are the remarks of a man flippant with fan concerns and comfortable in the knowledge he has the backing of an unambitious board of directors. While both remain we have hit our ceiling. Sad but true.

Man Utd, Barcelona and many other teams struggled to secure defensive reinforcements. This led to Mangala going for £32m and Luiz £40m (normally available for c.15m I reckon).

He is right, everyone suffered or massively overpaid. Just saying I think we had quite a good summer and if we score Khedira for 11m then I'd be more than happy.

I fail to see in that sentence where he says either that other teams struggled or overpaid for players.

The blind Wenger faithful putting words and excuses in his mouth that he should be explaining himself, which is part of the problem.

I would like to see exactly who we went for, how much we bid and the exact reason the transfer never materialized. Prove to us Arsene that you did everything in your power. It is unacceptable that a club at our level with our finances should go into a season with 6 defenders for 4 positions. It immediately had us at a disadvantage in the fight for honours before a ball was kicked.

While I agree the price for Luiz was ridiculous, on first showing, Mangala could prove to be worth every penny of that transfer fee.

The situation is unacceptable. Wenger's excuses are not good enough and without bosses that require him to push on further than the level we are at, Arsenal has peaked under current management.

Ulster you really are being a bit of a moody g*t. Cheer up!

Mangala, regardless of if we were interested or not, would have been won over by wages we can't compete with. No way would we offer a CB more than what our current game changers are being paid.

It's a poor excuse yes, but what is he meant to say? Lose the manager lose the team - he has to keep positive and upbeat especially on the eve of the NLD!

Everyone and his mother knows what we require - including Wenger, now more than ever - you really think this won't be addressed in January?

As Hackney Gooner said - everyone struggled on attracting the CB's, for all you know Wenger was on a budget and he had spent it.

We are where we are - so support the team and shout at management when there is something that can actually be done about it!

Shaw - £30m
Luiz - £50m
Chambers - £16m
Mangala - £32m
Ben Davies - £10m
Mathieu - £20m
Vermaelen - £15m
Rojo - £16m
Garay - £18m

Look how many players went for way more than they were worth. With the exception of Benatia (£23m) most high priced defender transfers were not good value for money.

I don't know how genuine concerns for the future of the club can come across as being moody Rob. Truly life in the blinding light of Wengers halo must be bliss.

Does everyone and his mother know what needs addressing, yes. Will it be sorted in January? Was it sorted during the summer? Did Kalstrom sort it last January? The answer is no. Not a recent problem an on going problem he still hasn't rectified and that for me is not good enough. At what point does that failure become an issue with Arsenes ARSEnal kissing platoon?

With bank reserves of well over 100mllion I fail to see why his budget wouldn't contain enough to address all areas of the team that are required to challenge for all competitions. Unless he is not required to challenge. Most recently sacrificing the league cup not even out of September.

I'll express myself however and whenever I choose to and no happy with fourth past the post, Wenger champion is going to tell me otherwise.

Yawn.

Same old spew from yourself.

I'm not even majorly pro Wenger - I think tactically he is behind but I will still support him as he has just signed a new contract and there is nothing we can do about that.

I wouldn't say he sacrificed the League Cup. Our team was more than well equipped to beat Southampton. The players let us down in that game.

I'm the among the first to have a good moan on twitter when everything is going wrong, however I like the team we currently have - I would add a DM and a CB and remove some of the older non-interested players, but other than that I am looking forward to watching some of our exiting talents play.

Who can say this team:

Shezza, chambers, per, koscielny, gibbs, ramsey, wilshere, alexis, ozil, theo, welbeck

makes people sigh every weekend thinking if only we had this player or this player. If all these players were on form we should wash away most opposition. It's early days. let's wait until after January before more doom and gloom talk!

7.) 26 Sep 2014
After January and get fed the same excuses with the same ever the optimist drivel from yourself? No thanks.

There is not a lot of what you just wrote that I disagree with so explain to me where you see fault in my original post that Wenger:

Needed to purchase additional defensive cover.
Failed to do so.
Has offered an unacceptable excuse for not doing so.
Should be held accountable for his failure if it comes back to bite us.
Would be held accountable if the board were interested in winning and not lining their pockets.
Nothing will change unless Wenger and/or the board are gone?

Which point do you take issue with?

Your negativity winds me up most!

What is wenger meant to do. Say something like: we messed up guys. We are going to struggle.

Of course not! He has just signed a new 3 year deal and is actually starting to spend. Attack is now sorted in my eyes for the time being. Defence will be next I hope.

Cheer up!

9.) 26 Sep 2014
You hope? Not an acceptable standard. He's paid 7million a year to do this job and If he can't do it someone else should. That's not being negative. That's wanting a higher standard of management for the club and more on field success. Your boring me now. If you don't like my posts don't read them. It's rose tinted glasses wearing fans like you that will have that leach of a yank milking us right back to mediocrity. Yay for 4th :-/
