Hey Ed's,
Hope your all well.
Can I just ask Ed 02 if you are aware of any details of the Guendouzi deal to Marseille as we've all heard there's an agreement in place for a permanent deal for a fee between €9-€12M.
I know we've done extremely well recently with regards to outgoings, as highlighted by a fellow poster on the banter page, but I still have a concern around how Arsenal negotiate and put a value on some of it if outgoings.
Auba and Ozil of course are obvious in that they went for free and the perception was we would save on wages, a mess all of our own doing originally.
But I do have concerns over deals like this and the Torreira one where our public urgency to be rid of an unwanted type of player diminishes his value when they are performing well about the rumoured sale price.
Other teams seem better at selling unwanted assets for surprisingly large fees at times and I'm curious about your opinion specific to Guendouzi at least.

{Ed002's Note - I can confirm that on July 1 Guendouzi will formally become a Marseille player under an obligation to buy. The player is very pleased with joining Marseille and fears they would sell him on for a profit have gone. Arsenal have struggled with selling players due to overpricing and not negotiating well - hence Granit Xhaka did not join Roma and Arsenal gave him a nice new contract. They have made errors with buying (Pepe is the best example) and have ended up in a situation where they need to buy two strikers in the summer.}

Cheers Ed appreciate the reply ?.

Arsenal have also struggled selling players due to the C.V. - as have many other clubs. It's only fair to acknowledge every side of the issue; it's not all the result of incompetence (though that certainly has played its part) .

Morning Ed,
Could you clarify something for me?
If reports are true it's claimed Abraham has agreed terms with Arsenal.
How is this allowed when it appears Arsenal have not yet approached Chelsea with an official bid to rival that of Roma?
Are they doing the Arsenal thing when it comes to transfers here and looking for a more favourable price and risking losing the player by annoying the selling club with penny pinching because the Roma offer does not seem excessive at all.
Also could you give any insight you might have on the realistic opportunities to sign both Tolisso and B. Silva.
And just one last question, looking for your personal opinion here. Why, compared to other clubs, do Arsenal find it so difficult and why does it take them so long from when they begin negotiations to when they officially announce signings? I mean it happens all too regular where they are inept at getting their business done clean and quick and very rarely is it done in a way that gives the incoming player time to hit the ground running.

{Ed002's Note - His agent has permission to find him another club so it is fine by Chelsea - but I am not sure it is true. There was a lot of pressure on Tuesday for him to agree a move to Roma after rejecting Atalanta. Whilst he may want a move to Arsenal the club has not made an offer and Roma will push today to complete a deal.}

Interesting Ed.
Are you aware of preferred targets or have Arsenal stopped looking for a striker based on ‘Lacca’ interest in our own strikers?

{Ed002's Note - I have explained all of this before so there is nothing new. Right now huge efforts are being made to sell players.}

2.) 11 Aug 2021 10:45:45
Hi Ed you mentioned a little while ago that Icardi is very much on Arsenal`s radar if he leaves PSG. With Messi arriving and likely he will get less game time is Icardi looking to leave? After all PSG need the money lol COYG.

{Ed002's Note - No. I have never said such a thing.}

3.) 11 Aug 2021 10:59:19
I read it again and I think it was wishful thinking on my part. I guess he is on Lazio`s radar not ours. Thanks again for info COYG.

4.) 11 Aug 2021 11:42:43
Cheers Ed. Appreciate the work and prompt reply. 👌💯.

Hey Ed 002,
I know you don't like to speculate but could you give some insight into whether Arsenal are still actually looking to strengthen in these positions, GK, RB, CM or Striker?
If so, would you have any idea of who they are realistically targeting at this point?
Appreciate your time 👌.

{Ed002's Note - I don't think there is anything new in terms of targets and the club certainly want to add a G like Onana, a RB like Aarons or Dest, a midfield player, perhaps an AM rather than a CM, and a Striker. Serious efforts are being made to sell players.}

1.) 05 Aug 2021 15:04:15
Appreciate the insight and quick response Ed. 👌💯.

2.) 05 Aug 2021 15:12:58
Interesting Ed, do you think it's just the market in which it is tough to sell and basically find buyers willing to pay bare minimum or Arsenal are simply not good in selling these players? Because the reports suggest enough interest in few of these players we want to sell.

{Ed002's Note - The Xhaka deal was killed by Arsenal asking too much. There are huge efforts being made to try and sell players now.}

3.) 05 Aug 2021 20:08:45
Ed has/ is Declan Rice been of interest to Arsenal?
Think he’d be perfect for us.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

4.) 05 Aug 2021 20:46:53
Thanks for the quick response Ed 🤙🏼.

5.) 07 Aug 2021 10:44:15
Music to my ears Ed, you mentioning Onana. These Ramsdale links are keeping me up at night. I just can’t see what the appeal is. For me he’s Kepa on his worst days.

{Ed002's Note - Onana is an option but there remains the interest of another side who would likely be more attractive to the player - hence the Ramsdale option.}

Well Ed hope your weekends going well.
Just want to tap into your potential knowledge on something that's been annoying me.
Regarding Willian.

{Ed002's Note - I am not interested in discussing the finances - it causes confusion.}

Ed, you stated Zaha may well need replacing at Palace. Any idea where his future may lie?
I mean a Pepe plus cash offer wouldn’t be a bad move (even as I’m reminded that it’s Edu I’m depending on to make that happen) .
I know Smith Rowe is thriving right now but I don’t see him as a wide player, his best work is done arriving late on the edge of the box. Zaha draws opposition out and beats defenders, for me he’s exactly what we lack in tight games. There’s zero risk involved signing him either in my opinion and it would make up for the whole Pepe thing and all parties might benefit.

{Ed002's Note - Zaha is of no interest to Arsenal.}

I can completely see where Gora is coming from. We have a long history of dwelling when it comes to transfers. Ed014 you are spot on to point to those other clubs and their current approaches, but I would argue that’s unique for then in this current example and more often than not once they’ve identified a player they want, they usually act fast.

Arsenal are notoriously poor negotiators and even when deals have been done in principle and the whole world knows about it, they still take days to finalise and confirm the player, and even then it’s not uncommon to hear of some reason why the player may not be available straight away for issues like work permits.

There’s an interview with Wenger and Wrighty done recently you can get it on YouTube. AW was asked his biggest regret in relation to a signing he could have got done. He said Ronaldo. His statement amazed me. He said he thought they had him, but if they’d been a ‘fraction quicker’ they’d have had him but Utd came in 5/ 6 days later.

FIVE OR SIX days later he equated to being a fraction. Deals for players can take a turn in an hour but he was willing to wait days to agree it in principle let alone get a signature.

Pretty much concluded what I’d already thought for years, especially with regards to signings like the Higuain one where Napoli were allowed to come in at the death and marginally outbid us. Wenger didn’t think the value was there, a year later he signed for Juve for twice the amount.

Luis Suarez wanted the Arsenal move, he came out recently and said so on the record, I think it was in relation to CL football at the time. So we had an elite player who wanted the move, and as was our form, botched it completely.

My point is, when you make an early commitment to sign a player it shows him your conviction. If he’s already open to the move it gives you leverage. It’s the same for any player and any club we saw it with Kane were seeing it with Mbappe. They know the buying club want them and they react in a way that puts their own club at a potential loss with regards value.

Happens everyday, it’s happened to us with RvP. Leaving a transfer in the balance for the sake of Penny pinching or putting the other club under pressure last minute gives them no time to target their replacement for their outgoing player and also it creates friction as I’m sure it can be considered poor etiquette, like the way we conducted the afore mentioned Higuain deal where I think the player felt Napoli wanted him more and Madrid felt it’d be best to go business with them rather than us in relation to that deal.

I don’t know why you would persist with those tactics but we did for years under AW and Gazidis.

In fairness to Arteta I think he’s done very well with recent transfers and Edu also, although I’m still skeptical about Edu as Ed002 has highlighted instances of poor conduct in the past and a reliance on Kia who’s clearly benefitting from conflict of interest.

I’d like to see us test Everton early for DCL. If there’s any hope of signing him Everton will need to know the money is there to go strengthen themselves which I think they know they need to anyway in January.

Again the danger with not acting quickly in this situation will be that the longer we sit on our hands the less open Everton will be to sell if it means they don’t have time to react and do their own business by end of window. I’m not saying he’s available I’m just saying if he’s a target we should act fast.

Hahahah that made me chuckle.
Who was the other player VM?
Tbh I feel like we need a CF, someone who can hold play up, is physical and disrupts defenders and can bring our widemen into play and take focus off them because we can see already how teams are doubling and trebling up on Saka.
I don’t think Isak has the physicality we need to take our attacking to the next level.
Calvert Lewin, Toney or Watkins for me are PL proven and have plenty of scope for improvement in a side like ours. I know we’re not the force we once were but we’re turning a corner and maybe the players themselves would consider it a step up.
Unless there was a deal to be done with Abraham in the summer as we really missed a trick signing him in September.
Martinelli- Abraham- Saka is a serious front three and they offer variety in attack.

The most important game can only be the next one. Forget about the NLD. We have to focus on Leeds and right now they are not in a great place. We have more to play for and I’d hope we will show that and win well.
Then we can shift our attention to Spurs who will hopefully be coming off a loss to Liverpool.
Then the pressure is all on them to win the NLD, especially at home.
If it plays out like this then that will be the litmus test for this squad and our manager. You’d like to see recognition from our manager and players in that game that the pressure is all on them and prepare and setup to play the game in a way that would crank up the pressure and create tension within the stands as the game evolves by playing solid counter attacking football and nicking a win but at the very least a draw.
If we go there with a 5 point lead and are wide open and toothless in attack, as we have been before, then we’re leaving ourselves wide open.
We definitely have the ability as a team and from a coaching perspective to get it done and this is now a defining moment for the future of both.
Tomiyasu is going to be the difference. COYG.

The error was made not signing Abraham for €35M before the Roma move. He’s an Arsenal fan and even held out for the move but Edu and Arsenal of course didn’t act decisively.
I think paying over the odds now wouldn’t make sense if Gabriel from city could be got for around €35M.

Not a hint of rolling over tonight Lefty. Unbelievable display considering the starting line up and squad.
Where was this collective attitude the past three fixtures?
Again there’s hope, but with Arsenal it’s always the hope that kills ya.
Great three points to savour for tonight tho.
