I mentioned my concern going into the last two matches in respect of the impact of playing a CL and PL match, following a heavy international schedule. I believed we needed to rotate and that has proved to be true, with a very tired display against Boro.

I felt we should have started Xhaka in the CL match, as he was suspended for 3 PL matches. I also believe we should have played Gibbs yesterday, as Monreal's lack of pace has been even more obvious this season. I also felt that Gabrie should have played one of the two matches and yesterday there were signs that Mustafi was starting to suffer from fatigue.

Yesterday, it was obvious that Boro would defend deep, with two banks of players close together and space would be difficult to find. Hence, I would have started Ox instead of Theo who tends to suffer when there isn't space to get in behind. In addition Iwobi looked fatigued having played for Nigeria.

It was time to start Perez and possible play Sanchez on the left, with Perez up top. We lacked creativity from either of the DM players, but in the absence of Xhaka, Santi and Ramsey, there was little option. Bellerin looked fatigued as well and possibly Debuchy could have played in the CL and Bellerin yesterday.

Jesus it wasn't that bad, we just didn't create enough or score enough and probably should have defended a bit better at times. It's easy to say that stuff after the match but, for example, if we hadn't have played Walcott and the match ended 0-0, Wenger would have been absolutely battered for not playing someone who has scored so many times in the last handful of matches.

Definitely 2 points dropped though but we go again.

Reports emerging that Ozil and Sanchez want £250,000 per week. Do the club agree to these demands? Don't forget that Wenger has always commanded the highest salary from Arsenal, so it means paying him slightly more to extend his deal. I was really impressed with Wenger's interview on Sky with Thierry Henry. He came across really well.

RG69

1.) 07 Oct 2016 06:29:17
Ozil has signed a new deal.

2.) 09 Oct 2016 15:20:08
Ozil and Sanchez are too very special players and if were we to lose either of them we should struggle to attract a player of similar or better calibre to replace them. I say give them whatever they want.

3.) 09 Oct 2016 15:26:29
We've got two chioces with both Ozil and Sanchez,
A see them in Arsenal shirts
or
B increase the clubs bank balance by saving on wages and receiving big fees for them.
I wonder how many fans will choose B, I'm sure there are some somewhere:-)

4.) 20 Oct 2016 09:31:22
Its A all the way.

05 Oct 2016 18:29:24
Any ideas why Santi Cazorla hasn't been offered a new deal. He is 31 and has at least a couple of seasons left in him.

RG69

1.) 28 Sep 2016 16:08:30
My stance on Wenger has not changed

I hope and pray this his last season

Time for change.

2.) 29 Sep 2016 11:21:32
Malaga I understand your reasons behind that. But surely if the team continue how was have been you'll change your mind. I think we've looked brilliant to say the least.

3.) 29 Sep 2016 14:07:31
Malaga, we look so different this year with the new signings which has reinvigorated the fans. I believe that if this continues throughout the season, Wenger deserves a new deal, which hopefully he will sign. Other than Guardiola and Simeone, I can't think of a manager who I would want and is capable of replacing him.

4.) 30 Sep 2016 08:56:47
If we win the League then yes sign him for another 2 years if not thanks for the great service get Simone in.

5.) 30 Sep 2016 19:53:03
I agree we've looked better, for the last 2 games. Before the Chelsea performance we can't say we played well at all this year. Dismantled by Liverpool, toothless against Leicester. If we keep this form up of course I'll be delighted. But I can't help but feel we have another 4 or 5 goal humiliation on the horizon. We're just too inconsistent and have been ever since 2004.

6.) 02 Oct 2016 23:17:53
Well said wally. Your luck will runout soon and the points will be dropped and the Wenger out fans will become fickle once again.

7.) 07 Oct 2016 18:15:31
Ellis,

Luck?

8.) 07 Oct 2016 19:53:36
Yes Dags luck, like when Kolarov put the ball in his own net or when a clearance deflected off of Zabaleta right into the path of Son who passed to Alli, that kind of luck mate.

That Ellis boy is a proper girls blouse. 😂😂.

9.) 07 Oct 2016 20:23:15
Lol Red Dog,

Selective memories some people mate.

25 Aug 2016 18:44:56
Assuming, as is beginning to sound likely, we sign Perez and Mustafi, it is probably about as good as it gets in this window, as I can't think of any better players in their positions, that are available and at a realistic fee.

Is Lacazette as good as people think, or are we getting that desperate that we cling to the thought that he is quality. The signing of Mustafi, will give us decent options at CB, with him, Koscileny, Gabriel and Holding.

The rumours sound true, as Chambers is being touted about for a loan, which wouldn't have happened if we didn't have a CB lined up. The final piece in the summer jigsaw, is to replace Debuchy, if he departs, as seems likely.

I think Mustafi and Holding can both cover at RB and with Mertesacker back in December, we may not sign a RB. If that is the case, Debuchy should be kept until the January window.

RG69

1.) 25 Aug 2016 19:25:05
You forget we have Sir Jenkinson coming back too!

2.) 26 Aug 2016 08:52:07
For me Lacazette for is in the same 'league' (maybe a touch better) than Michy Batshuayi. Perez has little resale value and had 1 good season in a top league but represents a risk. Thus Lacazette being pursued in the first instance. We'd have been watching Perez for months though.

3.) 26 Aug 2016 10:40:10
I don't watch much Ligue 1 football but if Lacazette is better thank Batshauyi like everyone says he is then he is one amazing striker as Michy has been doing wonders for Chelsea already.

4.) 26 Aug 2016 14:08:38
IMO Ligue 1 in France is not a top league. I think it currently sits well below the EPL, Spain and Germany and probably on average sits somewhere at a level between the EPL and Championship, bar a few good teams. If not, why are virtually all the top French players playing outside France, and why have french clubs only ever won the European cup once in its history (Marseille in 1992) ? Its why i never really got people assuming that Lacazette is this super player and instant saviour of Arsenal. He may prove to be good, but currently he is playing at a lower level so it would be a massive and expensive gamble to just assume he would slot straight into the EPL.

5.) 27 Aug 2016 23:36:38
Hackney we hadn't been watching perez. He was actually offeted to arsenal two weeks ago, we declined because he wasn't on out radar and signed him this week. The truth is he was available.

12 Aug 2016 12:21:29
Strong reports emerging that a deal for Mustafi has been agreed. Assuming he isn't signed in time for Sunday's match, should we risk Koscileny and if so, which of the 3 young CB's would you play alongside him; Bielik, Chambers or Holding. Alternatively we could play either Debuchy or Monreal at CB. Thoughts Gooners?

RG69

1.) 12 Aug 2016 14:15:04
Chambers.

2.) 12 Aug 2016 14:29:00
Telegraph reporting the move is now in doubt.

3.) 12 Aug 2016 19:37:53

A win tomorrow is vital, as Liverpool have dropped 2 points and something must give when toot take on Chelsea. Man U are drawing as I comment, although with West Ham down to 10 men, I expect United to win.

RG69

1.) 02 Jan 2017 21:45:54
All games are must wins between now and going to Chelsea mate and then depending on how they do between now and then that might include us having to win there too.
We are now going into the second half of the race where traditionally the pretenders and contenders part company.

2.) 02 Jan 2017 22:47:50
Gunner you took the words right out of my mouth. We can't afford to drop any points at the moment and beat chelski. I think our challenge is over but we have to win and hope chelski come a cropper. Never give up.

3.) 02 Jan 2017 22:47:50

4.) 03 Jan 2017 09:06:52
I don't see anyone catching Chelsea either Steve mate, will they drop the 10 points we need them to drop between now and May? Of course they will but that would require us to take maximum points from all our games which obviously isn't going to happen. Even if Chelsea only matched Utds first half of the season form and points total they would still end up with 85 points which would mean Arsenal needed to take 46 points from a possible 57 or Spurs 47 from a possible 57 City 44 from a possible 54 UTD 47 from a possible 54 or even Liverpool getting 42 from a possible 54, and even that's only if Chelsea don't have a better second half to the season than utd did first half.
The title is a very long shot for all the chasing pack but with the whole second half of the season still to play every team has to concentrate 100% on their own performance and results just incase.

31 Dec 2016 17:17:41
Great to have Mustafi and Welbeck fit, just need our Santi back. Looking forward to tomorrow's match.

RG69

1.) 31 Dec 2016 17:44:21
Are they match fit or just back in training mate?
Palace won't be easy having a new manager to impress and with the window opening some of their players will be fighting to show they shouldn't be replaced during it, while our players are in a fighting not to let Chelsea get completely out of sight.
If we turn up with our A game we should have way to much for Palace but anything less and it could turn into a battle of who wants it most.

2.) 31 Dec 2016 18:46:59
They are definitely back in training. I can't see Welbeck starting, possibly Mustafi may start. We need to win both league games this week and hope that the toot can manage to get something from the match against Chelsea. If Chelsea don't drop points in the three tricky away games they play, then we don't stand a chance of catching them.

3.) 31 Dec 2016 19:11:19
We can do nothing about Chelsea until we play them in a few weeks mate, our job now is to make sure we are no more than 9 pionts behind them going into that match, if they slip up between now and then happy days but the fact is we absolutely can't at any stage.
If they draw and we draw too that's one of the few chances we're likely to get wasted an a game less go.

27 Dec 2016 10:39:51
I just had a quick peek at the 5 PL fixtures before we play Chelsea and they are all very winnable. Whilst Chelsea have 3 tricky away fixtures during the same period; Liverpool, the Toot and Leicester. We could easily be only 3 points behind Chelsea when we play them. We should have players back from injury in January; Mustafi, Mertesacker, Welbeck, Ox, Debuchy &Walcott. With Cazorla hopefully back in February as well. Looking forward to the new year, although I would love to see us tie up Ozil and Sanchez on long term deals and make a quality signing in the winter window.

26 Dec 2016 16:59:48
Back to winning ways. Over to you Raver, United have caught you and 6th place beckons. The pain at the lane just goes on.1961 and waiting. over 55 years!

RG69

1.) 26 Dec 2016 17:16:16
You scored a 86 th minute winner at home to west brom lol, it's lucky you weren't playing a big club today as you wouldn't have won, you usual 4 th place trophy fight is on R. G.

2.) 26 Dec 2016 18:48:37
I have a feeling United might be catching you too soon enough RG.

3.) 26 Dec 2016 18:59:30
3 points secured raver. 6th place and Europa chase on for the Toot. As you well know the pain at the lane just goes on. 1961 and waiting.

4.) 26 Dec 2016 19:31:35
It really is an exceedingly good day for making stupid remarks, isn't it, Raver?
As if most people wouldn't already accept that Tony Pulis teams ain't easy to beat, you totally disregard your own esteemed club's recent record against them. Last I checked, your lot fought damn hard to salvage a point there back in October. Then let's not forget how badly you Spuds' failure to beat them last season derailed any chance of nicking the league title for you lot. I know it's easy to forget because your lot Spursin it up is just how the cookie seems to crumble around that point in the season, but you might want to think twice about posting that kind of drivel after the boxing day blaze-up.

5.) 26 Dec 2016 20:12:36
Unfortunately for West Brom a game isn't played over 85 minutes and unfortunately for you and Spurs a season isn't played over 37 games.
Its how it works raver mate :-)

6.) 27 Dec 2016 11:27:04
Nothing better then seeing Arsenal and Spurs fans argue over who are the bigger bottlers.

26 Dec 2016 16:44:05
Giroooooood - Easy!

RG69

1.) 26 Dec 2016 17:17:09
It's a pity giroud didn't turn up at Everton and man city lol.

2.) 26 Dec 2016 19:00:35
Pain at the lane just goes on raver. 1961!

3.) 26 Dec 2016 23:13:48
One fairs cup lol your European pain will go on for ever, we, were the first club to win it all and I love it.

4.) 27 Dec 2016 10:49:05
I think you find spurs won the European cup winnners cup in 62/ 63 as I said the first club to do it all.

5.) 27 Dec 2016 12:51:55
I suggest you read what you wrote raver, that you were the first club to win the Fairs Cup! The Cup winners cup is now defunct! It was a third rate competition founded in 1960 and not taken seriously at the time. Go on raver tell us which competitions the Toot have won in your lifetime. Stop being a coward. My guess is that the sole competition the toot won during your lifetime was the League Cup 8 years ago, before that it was the League Cup in 1999 and you certainly weren't born then. The pain at the lane just goes on. 1961 and waiting. 55 long years, soon to be 56 years!

6.) 27 Dec 2016 17:18:17
Deluded R. G. talking crap again so our two ueafa cups are, also non existent as it's now called another competition, we won the European cup winners cup not the crap fairs' cup you won, the great jimmy greaves smashed a hat trick to beat athletico Madrid 5-1 to lift the European cup winners cup.

7.) 27 Dec 2016 20:29:09
Raver a pretty trivial debate but arsenal won the fairs cup and the cup winners cup, get your fact straight pal.

I fully agree. The Everton result was disaterous in our quest for the title. We need to get back on track and restore confidence with a much needed win at City. In the New Year, we get the superb Mustafi back. I did warn fellow Gooners that clever team rotation was necessary and I am sure Mustafi's injury was fatigue related. I know he was omitted against Basel, but perhaps his stats were already indicating fatigue. We will also have Welbeck back and a bit further down the line Cazorla. Ramsey should be back soon, possibly against City and Mertesacker too.

Hi Gunner62 - Of course Ramsey can play wide right as he is a decent footballer, but it's not his strongest position in my humble opinion. I prefer the pace of Theo or Ox played wide right,

I can't see us signing Draxler in this window as we have sufficient options in the positions he can play. As for the Wenger situation, only Wenger knows if he will stay at the club and nobody will find out until he is good and ready to let theclub and the fans know. It's a shame that the fans don't show the vocal support for him at matches, that was shown to George Graham. When he finally departs he will be a very difficult act to follow. My gut feeling is that he will depart as he was very hurt by the fans vitriol shown against him last season. I believe he may end up at PSG, where he could stay until he takes up the French national managers position in the future.

{Ed025's Note - he will be a massive loss RG..

Although we looked more balanced with Bellerin at RB, I can't say Mustafi's injury was a blessing in disguise, as we will miss him over the next month. What it clearly showed is that we need decent cover at RB. We entered the season with Debuchy and Jenkinson who had been sent out on loan last season as cover for the excellent Bellerin. Jenkinson didn't return from injury for some time and Debuchy seemed out of favour, meaning that Bellerin had to play almost every match and suffered an injury. Jenkinson wasn't good enough when he left on loan and he simply isn't good enough now. He must be moved on in the forthcoming window., ideally sold or loaned out as a second option. I would also try and move Debuchy on, as at his age he needs to play regularly in order to be at his best. We need to sign quality cover in the January window at RB and this is probably the sole first team signing we need in this window. I beleve that young Byram at West Ham would be a good signing.

Oh dear raver you are embarrassing yourself again, virtually all the Arsenal players you metioned actually won trophies at Arsenal. A simple question for you, how many of the current toot squad have won a single trophy at the club? I will give you the answer this time. zero. None of them were ben born when the toot last won the league or even the FA Cup! 1961 the pain at the lane just goes on.

Iwobi v Alli - The difference is that Iwobi actually stands a chance of winning a trophy at Arsenal. Occasionally the toot sign decent players, but they have to go elsewhere to win trophies. Remember Sol Campbell, who left the toot to join their superior North London neighbours Arsenal, in order to win trophies and he did exactly that. The same went for Bale and Modric. I keep having to remind you that the pain at the lane just goes on .1961 and waiting.

As a word of advice raver, it was foolish to try winding me up, when we had to play Palace at home and were likely to finish the day above you. Yes, you had a couple of hours above us, but so what when at the end of day we finished above you. In respect of the Chelsea match it's a no lose situation for us, if you beat Chelsea (your prediction) then Chelsea lose points and we have an opportunity to close the gap on them. If you draw, then we have the opportunity to increase our lead over the toot and close the gap on Chelsea. If you lose, then we can open a 4 point gap on the toot, who will be looking nervously over their shoulder at the two Manchester clubs closing in and 6th place looms for the losers from the lane. Our job is to try and beat Bournemouth and that may not be easy as they are a well run outfit under Eddie Howe. 1961 raver.
