Hi Eds

Is anyone able to enlighten me with regards to transfer fees and costs etc. As an example, Xhaka's price is being quoted around 33 million (approx) Is that price purely the price of the player, and then agent fees etc are added later? Or does that price include all necessary add-ons? i'm curious as Wenger apparently stated Kroenke will provide appropriate funding this summer, and would be helpful to have an idea how player prices work so we can try and be objective with Wenger and board.

Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - As football fans it is best you avoid any thoughts about the finances as it tends to confuse everyone. However, it might be an apt time to explain again about the cost of transfers (excluding wages). What is paid by the buying club would typically include:
(a) Transfer fee - the big number.
(b) Any levy applied by the local FA – 5% for the EPL.
(c) Tax due on the transfer fee – typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(d) Agent fees – this may be to one or more agents (as an example, Liverpool have spent £45M plus VAT on agent fees over the past three years leading to this window).
(e) Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(f) Intermediary fees – this may be to one or more sponging leeches (what do you mean you have a super agent?) .
(g) Tax due on the Intermediary fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(h) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered).
(i) Legal fees.
(j) VAT on legal fees which is reclaimable.
(k) Moving/relocation costs for the player.
(l) VAT on moving/relocation costs which is reclaimable.
(m) Paying up insurance costs to the selling club (sometimes waived).

What is paid by the selling club would typically include:
(a) If the player is under 24 and moving between different football associations, a Solidarity contribution paid to his previous clubs responsible for his training - this is 5% of the transfer fee received (apportioned 5% of the contribution for each year from the season of his 12th birthday to the season of his 15th birthday and 10% of the contribution for each season from his 16th to 23rd birthdays).
(b) If the player moves to a higher category club (all clubs being categorised 1 to 4) then Training Compensation is due for the period of age 12 to 21. Compensation is due to all clubs when the player turns from amateur to professional and thereafter only when he moves from his final training club to another club. The initial training compensation is levied at the training costs associated with Category 4 clubs. The subsequent figure is agreed between the sides or tribuneral if necessary.
(c) Any monies owed to the player if he did not request a transfer – again this is 5% of the transfer fee received.
(d) Any monies owed to the player in terms of his contract (typically outstanding owed wages (not future wages) and bonuses).
(e) Any money contractually due to a previous club as the result of a sell-on clause.

1.) 17 May 2016 17:44:12
Hey Ed002, What happens if the player is sold and there were some promises made to previous club in add-ons like some appearances or some awards won by that player. What happens to those add-ons?

{Ed002's Note - Sorry - I really have no interest in entering in to any discussion on the page.}

2.) 17 May 2016 21:48:02
And to answer the initial question I think a lot of the transfer fees you heard don't account for the additional costs. Good example is buying you house you have the house price ( transfer fee) but it doesn't take into account moving cost, solicitors fees, estate agents fees, Mrs wanting new sofas ect ect.

3.) 18 May 2016 00:37:19
I seriously judt don't get it why fans want to get stuck in all the transfer fees and cost and so on, there is a price for every player and we have the money to spend it, end of. I personally do not care. we pay to watch matches, at the stadium and on tv and I don't think any club will be asking how much in fees we pay.

4.) 18 May 2016 00:07:57
Thanks Ed002, very informative.

Good comparison Dandan.

5.) 18 May 2016 14:53:11
Hi Ed,

Superb explanation. It also puts into context why a transfer takes so long.

For all of those payments / actions I imagine there are numerous forms to fill well after an amount has been agreed.

{Ed002's Note - Yes there is a form or two.}

6.) 19 May 2016 08:46:40
Thanks for the above Ed - much appreciated.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome Lefty.}

May be a personal view, but my god Odegaard looked class last night. I hoped ESR and Odegaard would play in the same team and not rotate, and for me this is working wonders. ESR is still class on the left (much better than Auba and Pepe there) , although he is a bit more limited than his free role a few weeks ago. However, Odegaard just looks special. I don't think he is fully fit yet, but his vision and ability to play quick forward passes is great. He tracks runners, puts a shift in and can spot passes ala Ozil. Surely he can only get better the fitter he gets and the more used to the team he gets? Very subjective and quick wish, but I hope he signs in the summer if the last 2 games are anything to go by.

1.) 19 Feb 2021 10:50:31
I agree our forward play is so much better
I still have reservations about PEA. I would give Pepe a run up front.

2.) 19 Feb 2021 16:08:23
The only slight spanner in the works lefty is that as long as Odegaard is on loan with no option to buy, then he should be played out of position to allow ESR to play where he is best and prefers. Otherwise are we not just improving a Real Madrid player at the expense of our own?

Makes me laugh seeing updates from apparent ITK's on twitter etc. "Aouar all but done" claims some, "Announcemet imminent". Scroll to next post, "Aouar deal collapsed, Jorginho priority". Social media is a literal lottery and dart throwing exercise, make enough claims that when one lands correct you pretend you knew all along.

All this is more evidence to the fact that this site is my absolute primary for news. I don't trust anything else other than the Arsenal website itself. (But I still look through social media for news I know isn't evidenced, its like a drug I tell you! )

Anyway, thanks to the Eds for the site, particularly during times like these. can't imagine how many questions and posts they need to moderate due to social media and mainstream media claims.

1.) 02 Oct 2020 16:56:24
The thing is Lefty everyone remembers the 1 in 200 stories Sky and Co come out with that actually happen and soon forget the other 199.
If people kept a log of all the media predictions over 1 summer and compared the hit to miss ratio they'd be very choosy about who they bothered taking notice of in future mate.

{Ed047's Note - I’m still really excited about Kante coming 62 and we get rid of Guendouzi! 🤦‍♂️🤣🤣🤣

2.) 02 Oct 2020 17:42:22
Me to Ed047, I'm just wondering how Kante and Jordginho are going to gel better in an Arsenal shirt than they did in a Chelsea shirt, maybe having Samuel Khedira sandwiched between the two of them will be the secret ingredient :-)

{Ed047's Note - ahh the memories, good old Sammy, he was coming to play with his best bud Ozil. 🤦‍♂️😂

3.) 02 Oct 2020 19:51:46
Surely sell Laca and Eddie and bring in Benzema and Higuain! I’ve heard they’re here for the medical already 👀COYG You know it makes sense.

{Ed047's Note - 🤣🤣

4.) 02 Oct 2020 20:25:29
Our medical room is like the Bermuda Triangle, some enter and leave while others who enter and never leave. No wonder top players are reluctant to take a their chances with Arsenal.

5.) 02 Oct 2020 20:50:47
The scary thing is not the fake news and lies these major news outlets put out about transfers, it’s when you realise they are doing the same in their news and politics sections.

6.) 02 Oct 2020 21:22:23
Absolutely Epping mate, my approach to every news story is to ask, how does the teller of the story know that? What actually genuine evidence is there to support that story?
" Arteta is planing a secret bid for such and such player " claim the Metro! Why is Mikel telling the Metro all his secret plans?
" C.V. crisis will be with us for the next 5 years claims the BBC" yeah well why didn't the BBC tell us 5 years ago it was coming if they can see into the future!
Extraordinary claims Demand Extraordinary strong evidence while crazy bizarre claims need no evidence just people to be worried enough to take them seriously.

Lets not be so reactive to last nights performance. We were all singing the praises after a cup win and a good start to the season, there's a heck of a long way to go until this season is over. This team is still a work in progress, with new recruits needed, but this all takes time. Its taken Klopp a number of years to get Pool playing like last night. MA deserves the time.

I agree Pepe was shocking, but I believe he is the type of player that needs consistent games to hit his stride. This is on him to gain that position mind, but coming on for the odd 20 mins is doing nothing but harming him. He had a stinker. Defence was the worst I have seen for a while, Tierney looked off (too early to return? ) , but i'm very excited for Gabriel and Saliba. They both need nurturing and i'm sure MA knows what he is doing in taking time.

For me, midfield was the biggest concern last night. Ceballos needed to start, I really don't rate Elneny/ Xhaka partnership, but i'm very excited for the possibility of Aouaor and or Partey. I believe MA knows how to change this midfield to begin threatening the top 4.

We are not there yet, we are nowhere near threatening Liverpool for the league, but we are on the right track. let's call last night for what it was, a spanking by one of the best teams in the world. That is nothing to be ashamed of.

{Ed047's Note - can’t argue with that lefty, didn’t like the team selection last night but it’s that game out of the way.

1.) 29 Sep 2020 09:03:02
Absolutely agree Lefty, total over reaction to a rookie getting beaten by the champion. The same performance and result v Sheffield United and we will really will have reasons to worry.

There were positives from last night compared to our recent league embarrassments at Anfield which stem back to when Bredon was Liverpool manger.

2.) 29 Sep 2020 16:25:29
Liverpool are Premier League and European Champions after all. I'm more concerned that Aouar is "resigned" to joining Arsenal, according to a report I just read.

Morning all

Anyone have any suggestions to stream the match tonight? I remember ed002 giving me a site a year or 2 ago but for the life of me I can't remember it.

Thanks all.

{Ed047's Note - I’ve used before which was always good, you type Arsenal in the search bar then it brings up a list of streams.

In fact there’s one on the home page a bit further down, I’ve just looked.

1.) 23 Sep 2020 12:16:23 are charging £10, how is that even possible?

2.) 23 Sep 2020 11:34:07
Thank Ed047. Will give that a go :)

{Ed047's Note - you’re welcome mate, I use an iPad when ever I need to use a stream and it works well on that.

3.) 23 Sep 2020 13:35:59
Totalsportek is awesome Ed! I always make sure I use a stream that is nearer the bottom, the stream is less jumpy that way. And try to get used to the ads Lefty!

{Ed047's Note - I always find when you click on the links they’ll open an ad page, just close that and go back and click on the link again and it works.

And yes if you use the search bar you get a whole list of links and agree the lower ones are better Akie.

4.) 23 Sep 2020 13:47:17
I use the same one Ed, get loads of ads but always find a link that's good.

{Ed047's Note - on my iPad MgM it only seems to come up when I first open the link. I don’t get any through the game though.

What do you watch on mate? I know a mate used an android phone and was getting some, let’s say, interesting ads! 🤣

5.) 23 Sep 2020 13:53:12
The site I used before (whatever it was called haha) had ads too. i'm guessing it was run in the same way, the ad pops up and you need to close it down and return to the stream. Grateful for the heads up tho mate.

{Ed047's Note - you’re welcome mate

6.) 23 Sep 2020 13:50:58
I always used totalsportek until I stumbled upon Hesgoal. com. this is my go to now. Dead easy and no annoying ads.

{Ed047's Note - I’ve used that one too GF and it was pretty good, I think between us we’ve got it covered mate.

If you can’t get it one get it on the other 👍🏼

7.) 23 Sep 2020 15:27:43
There's go4kora but I has an Arabic commentary.

8.) 23 Sep 2020 15:35:23
Flash streams on twitter is normally where I get my streams. Never had an issue with any match or PPV for any sport. Occasionally it gets shut done but a new ones comes up almost immediately. Totalsportek is my back up though for sure 👍🏻.

9.) 23 Sep 2020 15:43:59
I don’t bother streaming, I just go on too live chat on here and have a bit of craic.

10.) 23 Sep 2020 15:53:40
VIP league not too bad. Again, not perhaps 1st link but others seem ok.

11.) 23 Sep 2020 17:53:13
Samsung tablet ed, I'm ok tonight though I'm in Greece it's on in every bar.

{Ed047's Note - happy days! Enjoy mate and I guess we can expect a match report later 😉🤣

12.) 24 Sep 2020 00:57:59
ronaldo7 (dot) net has everything in hd.

13.) 24 Sep 2020 09:14:03
Ed047, I use hesgoal on my phone, usually it goes to ads when you first click on, just click back out and click back in and it goes straight to the game, hope that helps some of the lads when the look for matchday streams.

{Ed047's Note - thanks MT much appreciated mate.

11 Sep 2020 10:01:57
Ed002, following the news that Mikel has been promoted to First team Manager and (im guessing here) Edu's and Vinai's role being more defined, does this represent a new structure at the club? You have always been quite clear that the whole structure is a mess, but is this a move to rectify this in your opinion? Or do these moves not make much of a difference regardless and the whole structure will remain a shambles? TIA.

{Ed002's Note - The structyure has been far from fixed. Vinai Venkatesham as head of football is a joke.}

1.) 11 Sep 2020 10:34:08
I believe he is CEO now. According to Amy Lawrence, Venkatesham is mostly concerned with the business side and Edu as technical director would be the man in charge of everything football related, with Venkatesham only occasionally involved. The worry for me is that Edu and Fahmy are now in charge of negotiations for acquiring players, which neither have experience doing. Far from fixed, certainly, but also certainly another step in the right direction following Raul being sacked.

2.) 11 Sep 2020 10:42:21
Thanks Ed. Appreciate the reply.

3.) 11 Sep 2020 11:26:15
Hi Ed002,

In the interview Edu basically says that he is the Head of Football. Vinai is the CEO. Areteta is the Manager and then basically Huss as the negotiator.
I understand all are very young. I understand the you can have reservations against their capabilities as even I have. But that is an issue in the personal but as the structure seems like what most clubs have now Manage + Football Head + CEO.
Is there still some problem in that as well as per you.

It would be great if you could elaborate a bit more. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Fine.}

Sally I must say, enquiring about Ed002 and the disrespect faced last year is very supportive. Hats off to you. This may be a banter site, but there is a line that must not be crossed, but sadly some have not adhered to this in the past. Edoo2, well all the Eds for that matter, are very generous with their time, we should all be grateful. As a club we have always demonstrated class and this is the same with the fans.

Hopefully the Eds can see that the fans appreciate them as you have demonstrated.

{Ed002's Note - Well thanks.}

Im actually really surprised reading the reports this morning. I fully appreciate where Saliba and his representatives may be coming from, surely he was as shocked as us when he wasn't even in the squad last night. I have faith in Arteta and his judgement, and again appreciate Saliba is only 19 so needs time to be developed and protected, but his complete exclusion thus far is odd. If he does go out on loan I hope all parties are happy and he hasn't been mis-sold a plan.

{Ed002's Note - He was purchased before the likes of Arteta and Edu were involved with the club. Last season he had a season disrupted by the pandemic and a couple of injuries - a loan makes some sense but it was not what he or his representatives were expecting. Arsenal has gone in a different direction and perhaps his representatives could look for other longer term options if a loan goes well.}

I really hope Kia doesn't get his way again. Really rate Tierney, think he will become a rock for the club. After he recovered from the shoulder injury he became vital for me, future captain.

Im really mixed on this one. I used to like Fellaini at Everton, and back then wanted him to come to us. I saw him as more of a ball playing CDM. At United I haven't been overly impressed, but I guess if we have a limited budget and he is coming to the end of his contract, he could work out short term. I'd support him and hope he becomes solid for us. He definitely has more steel than anyone we currently play regardless.

I don't believe the rumors myself, but ill delve in as its the hot topic. i'm not opposed to Arteta at all, I agree completely. He could be a success, he could be a failure. i'm fairly sure he was thought very highly of when passing his badges, apparently being outstanding in the training. We all wanted change, and this is change. With Ivan, Raul and Sven overseeing things, a coach as opposed to a manager sounds pretty decent to me. If after a season or 2 he fails, we search again.

Im not normally an emotionally reactive individual, can usually remain objective and positive, BUT, I have never felt so frustrated and low in my life. Its not even the fact we didn't make the final, its the absolute pathetic attempt to win the game that has irked me. So, so so poor. Yes Auba hit the post, ESR and Pepe 'nearly' scored, but those chances were not 'created'. They merely fell to each individual in a moment and their own instincts took over. i'm at a loss as to how Arteta set the team up, to play so flat with no pace, no ideas, just blunt!

1 of 2 things happened in my mind - either Arteta set the team up poorly, had no idea how to motivate and tactically set the team up for such an important game, or, the team didn't listen to any of his instructions as they have lost faith in him. Either scenario is terrible for the club.

Saka being moved around constantly is ridiculous, he's 19! Let him develop in his position instead of being the Atlas holding the club up. Partey has felt like a massive let down, how many stray passes did he have in the game? How many times did he lose possession? The back pass to Leno was a SHOCKER. Put him under real pressure. I totally get that the system isolated Partey and left him too much to do, but all his poor play was individual errors for me. Likely due to being exhausted, but still, I expected more form him.

After seeing Tuchel's work at Chelsea, I have to admit that I long for the same ruthlessness and approach for us now. I just can't see a change happening regardless.

The boy definitely has potential. But as reported consistently, his attitude appears poor. We will never know the exact truth, but his coach in France made comments regarding his attitude. We witnessed his attitude problem with us and now his Hertha coach has said similar. Personally, I don't feel attitude problems can be easily changed, and therefore may be easier to move on. He needs to knuckle down and work hard, despite his clear ability, and prove he can be selfless for his team. i'm not sure he can do that. I also don't feel he is a big loss in our midfield when we have Partey. He makes everyone better around him, in my opinion. Would much rather a Bissouma Partey mid. Mind-blowing combo.

I have to admit, although I agree to a level, the ESR hype is built on 2 months of games. Like what, 10 - 15 games? I absolutely agree that he has been brilliant. But to instantly decide to build the team around him is jumping the gun at best. Saka is clearly outstanding, and has shown his level consistently, ESR needs to do the same. If he maintains this level for the next 12 months, then absolutely build the team around him, but this summer we should re-build 'including' him, not 'because' of him.

Wire - I couldn't agree with you more. Exactly what I want from the summer, word for word.

Davy i'm with you. So up and down in here its bordering on crazy now.

Of course we all want a win, in every game. But we have no god given right to win every game. We lost, a lot of the players were poor and Arteta made some odd choices, but my god, its not the end of the club. A few games ago people were loving the team and Arteta, then lose a few games and everything goes out of the window. Arsenal will survive. We may not be the Invincibles anymore, but give it time. Success needs to be built, not overnight, but over time.

I genuinely think Arteta will sort things out. He has moved on players that seriously needed to move on. There's still work to be done there, but I believe others will go in the summer. He improved the defence, he improved the middle with Partey and a somewhat improved Xhaka, now he's working on improving the creativity. With Saka, ESr and maybe a permanent Odegaard, that project is on the way. Then you improve the attack. Its a massive re-build, that is going to take many transfer windows.

We should not be so surprised and reactive to losing to City. We are a mid-table team, which is hopefully on the up.

I totally agree WC. Fair points in every step. For me, the biggest change we can make (as Epping states) is to move the ball forward much quicker and much more frequently. ESR stands out so much because he has no fear, he will play quick forward passes on the turn that immediately make defenders face their goal. As a team we need to make these passes more often, even if they don't work out. We can't keep playing safe sideways passes to maintain possession, but some directness in their and don't be afraid of losing the ball. that's what our high press is designed for, regaining possession quickly. That alone should give us the confidence to try more dangerous plays.

Also, massive bug bear of mine. Arteta wants to play out from the back, which i fine, but his direction is for each player to commit an opposition player before paying the ball, thus taking them out of the game for that play. On the surface this makes sense, but only against a high press. Too many teams sit back off us, allowing the defender time to walk forward with the ball 'waiting' for opposition to approach and commit. This slows down the play so much and subsequently, our attackers do not know when to make runs or move into space. Really irritates me. Sod the opposition, create plays that work for us and create a dynamic that everyone can understand. Hope i'm making sense.
