The backroom shake up going on is a good sign. 6 important backroom staff are being let go of including our head of medical department Colin Lewin (who has apparently been at arsenal for 23 years) , Goalkeeping coach Gerry Peyton and fitness coach Tony Colbert.
We have been complaining for seasons about our players fitness levels and injuries. Its good to see some steps being made in the right direction.
Looks like next season will have a lot of new faces at the club, I hope that won't affect us too much.
Still wondering why Bould will be staying.

I swear Peyton seems to make keepers worse. Anyone notice Fabianski turn into an excellent, reliable keeper after we let him go?

2.) 16 May 2018 09:17:38
Fabianski got relegated and wasn't even the best player in their team. The end.

Apparently, Bellerin is a vegan, maybe this is the reason he is so weak.
There are many stories about 'weak' and 'small' footballers being fed on a diet of steak to gain some muscles and strength.
Recently, Harry Kane revealed his diet is made up of almost entirely proteins, especially chicken and beef.

I understand the topic of whether or not to eat animals is sensitive and I might get stick for this, but footballers need protein, all professional athletes need protein.
Protein plays an important part in the energy and muscle preservation needs of athletes. It has a big role in the repair, maintenance, and growth of body tissues. It also has a role in energy supply.

He definitely needs to do something to get more proteins in his body, he seems too weak for the premier league.

1.) 05 May 2018 23:02:52
Not bellerin’s diet related but ED with us not qualifying for CL next season, do you know or feel that will have a negative effect of our manager options. For example Allergi if he was a serious option is most likely not going to want to come to Arsenal if he can’t attract the players to challenge knowing full well all the other clubs above us will invest heavily.

{Ed001's Note - there are lots of factors which will impact on getting a manager to come, yes that is one, but it is just one of many.}

2.) 06 May 2018 09:56:26
I wouldn't believe all the media discourse against vegans and protein. You are perfectly capable of getting all the nutrients you need through non animal products. I'm also sure that Wenger, who revolutionised the english game with his attitudes to diet and recovery etc, would not allow someone in his elite squad to consume a diet that would compromise their performance.

3.) 06 May 2018 10:06:43
I don't know a lot about diet and the effects they have on people's performance but I do know some people who are vegetarian and vegan need to have vitamin b injections from thier doctor.
Protein shouldn't be a problem from my very limited knowledge because nuts and beans are full of protein apparently.
But it is a fair question 254 mate.
I wonder how many footballers are vegan and if any really top players are? That might give us a clue I guess.

{Ed001's Note - it shouldn't be a problem, there are a fair number of vegan MMA fighters and I am pretty sure Carl Lewis is vegan, well he says he is, but he also says he never took steroids despite receiving bans on more than one occasion for positive tests prior to the Ben Johnson Olympics....

So long as they eat properly, it makes little real difference. For you and I it wouldn't, but when you move in the rarefied air of top flight professional footballers or RG61 and can jet to The Ritz to have a chef specially prepare you a fresh vegan meal, all without actually leaving London, then you should be able to get a balanced diet. Vitamin B, for instance, can be obtained via folates which are present in large quantities in green, leafy veg. There is no real need for injections.}

4.) 06 May 2018 10:37:11
I'm pretty sure your spot on about the vast majority of people where on a day to day basis meat eater or veggie makes very little difference I'm sure there are plenty of pros and cons for both.
Personally I'm very much a meat eater and don't see that changing, I just try not to think about it to much.

{Ed001's Note - a few years back I had a short period of being veggie, not through choice like, it was just cheaper to buy veg than meat. It is very easy to do without in physical terms, but to get to peak fitness you need a dietician to work with. I believe Arsenal have at least one on the books.}

5.) 06 May 2018 11:06:21
Personally I'd love to eat more veg for the health benefits but a pound of of sprouts just doesn't have the same attraction as a pound of sirloin for me.
Although me and the misus are getting into micro veg after watching an article about it on the food unwrapped program, in Holland they have greenhouses that stretch for miles growing the stuff and apparently micro veg has 90 x the vitamins and minerals of the fully developed plant.
The seeds cost pence and the stuff grows in a week ( it's extortionate price in the supermarket) and according to the scientific evidence used as garnish on the side of your plate has the equivalent benefits as a whole plate of the mature stuff.
I'm 55 and since I've been eating it don't i suddenly feel about, 55 :-) .
I guess it might take more than a few days to kick in so won't give up just yet :-)

{Ed001's Note - only 55? I always thought you looked a lot older....}

6.) 06 May 2018 12:01:37
That's what the micro greens are for mate, I'm hoping to look and feel 20 years younger, obviously not immediately I've got to be realistic about it, but I've high hopes for this time next week:-) ( if I remember to eat them that is )

{Ed001's Note - 20 years younger will put you down to about 805 then....}

7.) 06 May 2018 13:24:44
Ambitious I know but that's the aim mate :-)

8.) 07 May 2018 12:04:51
Not to rubbish vegan diets, but yes protein tends to be issue. Not the quantity of protein but the quality of the amino acids. Best quality is animal products. Least is protein from grains. Best vegan protein is nuts and seeds. This is the problem. If the whole world goes vegan then our greater AFC need to start buying land now to ensure they can feed the team. The rest of well we will just make do with the severe shortage of protein and high cost as most land will be used for biodiesel.

{Ed033's Note - The rest of us can enjoy our Soylent Green!

In my OPINION Nagelsman and Tedesco will be out of their depth at Arsenal, they are young, good coaches and very exciting, but managing a club of Arsenal's stature is a totally different prospect.
They really no nothing about the pressure of the EPL, nothing about managing clubs outside their league, nothing about managing the pressure at Arsenal, nothing about managing players with the big egos our players have, absolutely nothing about managing a team that plays European football.

It would end up being a Moyes-like appointment. Moyes couldn't even take his style of play to United.
I'd rather have Rafa Benitez than Nagelsman or Tedesco.

Rookies like Arteta and Viera don't even deserve to be mentioned unless if in an assistantanagerial position, as much as they have potential, managing Major League soccer or being Guardiola's assistant isn't even close to the pressures of managing our reserve team. (Again, this is my opinion. I don't mean to offend anyone)

Our best option would be to get Ancelotti on a short term contract with an assistant manager like Henry, Bergkamp, Viera, Arteta with the view of them replacing him in the long term. We need someone with experience who would jump in with as little adjustment period as possible as we don't have any leg room for more fall for grace (we are already becoming a joke) .

Arsenal has a brand and a name to protect.

I also don't get why Tuchel is getting so much stick, if he is considered good enough to manage PSG and Dortmund and even get tipped for the Chelsea job.

Simeone would be nice but his negative football would have our fans boycotting games as early as matchday 10. The only reason why it took fans so long to get disenfranchised with Wenger is because of the level of respect he has gathered over time, Simeone having us park the bus would lead to massive outcry. Besides we don't have the players needed to play his style and it would require massive one-time investment.

Enrique hasn't proved to me that he is good enough, a goat with a tie on would get Barcelona to win trophies. Enrique at Roma didn't do a good enough job.

If all goes to hell and none of our options are available, I'd much rather have Conte on a short term basis to steady the ship with Henry/ Bergkamp/ Arteta/ Viera as assistant. Conte's downside is he moans more than a sick cow. Never trust am employee who constantly complains about his employer and work place in public.

Gunner254

1.) 23 Apr 2018 19:55:30
For me personally I would love to see Conte take the reigns. He would be the perfect fit for us with respects to his ability to get the very best out of his players and improve teams that are floundering. Look at his achievements with Juve and then the Italian national team and add to that what he did at Chelsea. I really do think he would be by far the best option. I presume that there is little to no chance of this happening though?

2.) 23 Apr 2018 21:27:39
I agree, Chelsea's horror season aside, he has a great record of winning (though he doesn't win cup finals)

3.) 24 Apr 2018 14:19:40
I’d take conte, I must admit I thought he’d take the Italy job again but with ancelotti seemingly offered it then maybe not. Perhaps allegri to Chelsea and conte back to Juve.
I really have no clue as to who it will be, anyone I’ve soiken to says exactly the same. There seems to be no clear front runner except maybe Enrique, who I’m not that keen on. Couldn’t tell why I’m not keen he just doesn't excite me.

16 Oct 2017 07:47:52
The loss at Watford was embarrassing to say the least. But I find Troy Feeney's comments to be classless and distasteful to say the least.

A guy who has never played for his national team gets the cohones to talk about the world cup winner in Ozil like he is trash.
Deeney should know his place and shut up.

Gunner254

1.) 16 Oct 2017 16:37:48
Well I’ve never got in the national squad, does that mean I can’t criticise Ozil either? Stop talking soft.

2.) 16 Oct 2017 16:46:36
Deeny jumped on a soap box to rub salt into the wounds of a team with no bow locks.

3.) 16 Oct 2017 17:53:40
Deeny is an arsenal fan ain't he? Probably as disgusted as the rest.

4.) 16 Oct 2017 18:42:02
That's the problem with football people try to sensor or slap down the Troy deenys of the world. His assessment was bang on from what I heard . arsenal are a joke
Soft boys clubs amongst those in the know.

5.) 16 Oct 2017 22:50:25
That’s the thing. You look into it more I’m sure you’ll find he is an arsenal fan. Bout time someone was honest.

22 Sep 2017 16:53:15
Has anyone else noticed Bellerin improved after the Ox left?

Gunner254

1.) 22 Sep 2017 19:53:51
Or he's just now playing on the right side 😂.

2.) 24 Sep 2017 07:38:01
So has the entire team, unbeaten since he left. Wenger was selecting some very odd teams in order to fit Oxlade in., such as Bellerin at LWB and benching Kolasinac! I must admit I didn't want Oxlade to leave, but now he left I don't believe that we miss him. I read an interesting article that more or less stated that although he had all the tools to be a top player, he actually wasn't that good a footballer. £35-40m in the bank to go towards purchasing a superior player.

3.) 24 Sep 2017 09:47:00
Ox leaving was always a good move for both player and club as would it be for Theo.
Both players were and are always going to be kids and bit part players in Arsene's eyes which wasn't good for anyone.
Ox will either stand or fall as a man at Liverpool while Theo will retire at Arsenal with a gold watch that will say thanks for the potentially great years.

4.) 24 Sep 2017 13:11:18
G62, it's cute that you think Ox will magically become a better player at Liverpool 😀.

5.) 24 Sep 2017 20:06:59
Hi Sharpie, Let's see how the lad does by May mate, I think he is a confidence player who needs someone to show some real confidence in him to find it within himself.
Time will as always tell.

Interesting to hear Arteta's view on what made Liverpool improve.
he mentioned they got a top goalkeeper, a top defender and a top midfielder.
we have 1 of 3 in that we have 2 great goalkeepers.
I hope the hoard backs him and gets him at least 3 players.
I think getting Upamecano, Partey and Szoboszlai would transform us into title challengers if we keep Auba.

Gunner254

1.) 15 Jul 2020 16:48:57
Looks like Partey might be staying put Gunner254!

2.) 15 Jul 2020 18:57:50
'If we keep Auba' and he plays centre. Score goal yes from wide but not as good running back and tackling and not enough brace or hat trick. Still a top striker but we may not be getting enough out of him.

Hi Ed001,
I know you just have a few player reviews in your agenda, but do you mind doing one on Nicholas Pepe?

Gunner254

{Ed001's Note - of course mate, he is already in the list, so it shouldn't be too long of a wait. Well I say that, but the list is huge!}

1.) 10 Feb 2020 04:04:35
Cheers Ed! Worth the wait, I'm curious to see what you have to say about him, especially since he signed for Arsenal.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, just sorry it takes so long to me to get through the list.}

How big of a jump would it be for Zjelko Buvac from being an assistant managet for years to managing a club of Arsenal magnitude.
What do you think he would need to be successful and how would he need to adapt.
Also with Arsenal's new leadership structure, he would only be needed to run the on field playing aspects of the club with Sanllehi running everything else, would that be a plus considering he doesn't have much experience running a football club.

Also, I (as many Arsenal fans) know nothing about him. Might someone have any information about him, his style and how good of an assistant he actually is or how good of a coach he would be.

Again, this doesn't mean that he has gotten the Arsenal job, it's just that we already have information on all the other 'candidates' but absolutely nothing on Buvac.

Gunner254

1.) 01 May 2018 14:48:12
A big leap, but a very experienced well respected coach at Dortmund and Liverpool.
Quite frankly I fail to see an outstanding candidate who is available. As I have said we took unknown Wenger from Grampus 8 and George Graham from second division Millwall. Would anyone of us have chosen or wanted either of them and yet they were tow of the best managers we have had.
If he is the one, the fans must get behind him.

01 May 2018 13:32:19
Zeljko Buvac anyone?

Gunner254

1.) 01 May 2018 13:37:47
I think he could very well be perfect. I know absolutely squat about coaching but it just sounds very right.

2.) 01 May 2018 14:58:13
What would you accept from him year 1 and 2 in order to keep the job?
For me year 1 absolute minimum top 10 as there will probably need to be a lot of coming and going and it might take time to get players to gel and buy into his ideas.
Year 2 top 5 as after two full seasons you'd want to see some progress being made in order to think you have the right man in place.

Hoping for an instant return to top 4 is fine but expecting it not so good, we are currently the outsider of 6 with 5 big oppenents who all in one way or another currently looking to be in pretty good shape again next season so we mustn't put silly demands on our new man from day one.

3.) 01 May 2018 23:22:51
62 mate, we are calling for Wenger replacement to have a coach who can get us top 10 and than top 5 in two years. That’s a bit going backwards mate. We want a change to be contenders and back in the mix. Even if we going to have players going and coming. We still have a decent squad and great talent at the club.

22 Apr 2018 16:20:52
Gary Neville has to be the biggest fool in football. According to him coaching Arsenal isn't a great opportunity.

This from a guy who was a total failure at football management and an even bigger failure at punditry.

Gunner254

1.) 22 Apr 2018 19:02:07
He’s right gunner it’s not a great opportunity for him it’s not an opportunity full stop for him.

2.) 22 Apr 2018 20:23:58
He said :

"Is the opportunity to get Arsenal back into the Champions League? Or is the opportunity to get Arsenal to win the Premier League?

"If it is the latter, one of two things has to happen. They have to have a manager who can punch above his weight, and the second thing that can happen is Arsenal's board start to match the spending of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea, but that isn't likely.

Spot on really.

Surely, if they offer a 3 year deal with that salary, it's better than staying at Arsenal for 1 more year at a slightly higher salary.

That is being a bit too critical, pundits have been complaining for years about Arsenal not having enough experience, Arsenal players have been called 'school boys' for a long time.

I think Lichtsteiner is a good addition and according to Emery he will bring experience 'on and OFF' the field. Emery knows what he is doing also considering the rumoured meagre transfer budget, Lichtsteiner is still good enough to play in cup games and the Europa league, it will also be good to see if he will provide competition to Bellerin.

Its a bit unfair to buy a player if you think he isn't good enough to play for you any day against any team when fit. Perez could have done a lot better if he was given half the faith wasted on players like Walcott.

I don't think Niles has what it takes to be CM. His first touch is poor, his decision making is poor at times.
I only think Wolves are buying him to play him in full back positions just like us, but they can guarantee more reguular first team football than us.

Bellerin was our poorest man on the pitch. I think we need to let him go now, he will clearly never hit the ceiling we set for him.
The guy couldn't even get a pass right yesterday. And I think getting a great RB might bring the best out of Pepe.

Top 6.The lower we finish, the bette. As long as we don't get relegated. So that we start building a team again. Just like Liverpool.

I'd rather miss European football for 2 seasons then compete in the 3rd that participate and get knocked out. On the financial perspective, it makes no sense to get money from participating when our owner doesn't care about us buying a team that will be able to compete.
