What is this club coming to when Granit bloody Xhaka is most likely candidate for the captaincy for the upcoming season. The days of Adams and Vieira seem so far away.

Gooner Jim

1.) 18 Jul 2019 02:56:29
I would have gone with Sokratis, but there weren't any really good choices to be fair. Lacazette was another name I would have put forward but who would have been your pick?

2.) 18 Jul 2019 06:55:20
It’s about time that arsenal stopped being cowards and made Bellerin my captain.

3.) 18 Jul 2019 07:58:30
Xhaka had 2 or 3 really decent games last season which is 2 or 3 more than in his first 2 years combined at the club. He also had another 2 or 3 where he wasn't awful so perhaps Emery wants to show the rest of the squad he rewards improvement :-) .
It's only paper talk at the moment so let's wait and see but if Xhaka should be our captain next season then it doesn't bode well for us fans or Emery himself who I doubt will get a 3rd season with us if we are no better than we were last season.

4.) 18 Jul 2019 13:46:17
That's a good question about who I would want. There is no obvious contender which is another matter in itself. Given the players we have I would put Lacazette forward personally given his work rate and determination in the games he plays in.

5.) 18 Jul 2019 14:04:01
I agree on Laca for captain. He's not the loudest or most vocal player, but he let's his play do the talking and leads by example with great work rate.

He has a good attitude as well, but a bit of a temper. Remember that mad elbow he landed on that poor lad's chin from Ostersunds?

6.) 19 Jul 2019 06:48:44
Laca is no captain, vice captain maybe, but we know he probably isn’t going to start every week, he goes missing/ stroppy when it isn’t going quite his way. Yeah when he is good he is fantastic and puts a shift in. For me i’d be happy with 1 of 3 Sokratis, Bellerin or Xhaka, yeah Xhaka performamces are not the best, but he does show leadership on the pitch, he shouts, he instructs, he let's players know. I would still rather we sold him, but i do believe he is our beat option, he’s also the captain of swiss national side. must do somethinf right.

Hi ed (s) ,

Are the reports in some papers and over the internet to be believed that we may go after Zaha. I can't see how we could afford him to be honest, plus I think we should be concentrating on signing defenders who can actually defend. Your info or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Gooner Jim

{Ed002's Note - Zaha (RW) Emery says he likes the player but Crystal Palace will look for £60M plus which will take a serious chunk of the available funds away - but perfectly possible as the big buy of the summer}

1.) 22 May 2019 19:17:56
Wow, many thanks for responding.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome Jim.}

2.) 22 May 2019 23:29:42
He’s going back to Man United.

3.) 22 May 2019 22:21:11
Ed, from the defender target list you gave us, is there anyone we can cross off or add to the list?

{Ed002's Note - You can add Brandon Soppy (CB) Rennes kiddie - recommended by an ex player - perhaps 2020.}

4.) 23 May 2019 10:55:59
Thanks Ed. You see how the newspapers lie Ed, is it really true that if arsenal win the Europa that our budget will be substantially higher than it is without winning it?

{Ed002's Note - It really doesn't work like that. Much will depend on what money can be obtained by selling players.}

5.) 23 May 2019 11:06:48
Thanks Ed, I imagine it will be hard getting the likes of Elneny, Jenkinson and Mustafi out of the door due to the high wages we pay them.

{Ed002's Note - Transfer fees are running wild again, all three will move if the club don't ask too much.}

6.) 23 May 2019 16:15:42
Would love us to sign Zaha. Can’t see us paying the price Palace want, unless one of our forwards is sold.

7.) 23 May 2019 18:58:41
Interesting you say if the club doesn't ask for too much. Can only imagine we have for these players in the past. Wonder if it'll be worth just taking a loss on those players which will reduce that wage bill of ours.

8.) 24 May 2019 10:28:48
Thank you ed002.

18 Feb 2019 15:19:42
Hi Eds,

I was reading an article where apparently Overmars stated that Alexis Sanchez could be moving back to the Emirates as he believes a switch back to familiar territory could help him rediscover his form.

I would be interested to know your thoughts on this, whether there may be any truth in this, and whether any fellow Gooners would want to see him back. Thanks.

Gooner Jim

{Ed002's Note - I cannot imagine for one minute that Arsenal would consider doing that. The money would be significant, it would be a step back and the risk high.}

1.) 18 Feb 2019 16:09:25
Thank you kindly for responding.

2.) 18 Feb 2019 18:20:08
I can't imagine it either Jim as financially it would make even Mesuts wages look reasonable.
But in a parallel universe where he wanted to come back on his old wages then yes I'd grab with both hands as he was our best performer of the past decade and more up until his last half season when he'd already decided to leave for City but we made him stay another 5 months which cost us a 60 million transfer fee when he ended up at United and we got Miki in stead of 60 million, not the clubs smartest bit of business ever that.

3.) 18 Feb 2019 19:25:00
We do seem to make a pigs ear of outgoing transfers far to frequently 62.

4.) 18 Feb 2019 20:17:45
Our business in both buying and selling ends of the market has been atrocious sparky mate, it looks like the club are trying to redress it now but the affects of the past will take time to put behind us mate.
A lot less giving out contracts on a job for the boys basis and negotiating and either settling on new deals or selling at a premium much earlier would make a huge difference in my opinion mate.
If in 2 years time Torreira won't extend cash in no matter how you we don't want to lose him at the time, it has to be better watching him join United Liverpool or even worse still Spurs on a free 2 years later mate.

5.) 18 Feb 2019 20:53:12
Cant argue with any of that mate, we need to build a team where players don't want to leave, its been too long since that was the case.

6.) 20 Feb 2019 05:27:47
The article said that he would rediscover his best form if moved there, not that it was a possibility, what would the director of football at ajax know about ne of this? I read an article saying jeff hendrick was going to come to arsenal to win the treble next year? what's your views on this guys and gals (im presuming that g62 is a right old tart)

7.) 20 Feb 2019 12:50:06
I'm not much of one for bearing grudges against ex players Jack mate especially if I understand there reason for leaving
It's easy to label Sanchez a money grabber but in truth there wasn't much footballing reason to stay with us.

8.) 23 Feb 2019 15:44:11
Bit of a random insult to g62 there? Or has that come out wrong?

Reading some of the reports about the game with Bayern today, there appear to many things to look forward to and some not quite so. Mustafi is a name which keeps popping up in these reports as one of those bad things. I haven't watched the match but apparently Mustafi has carried on pre-season where he left off last season. His distribution was poor, constantly putting team mates in danger, he was generally sloppy and indecisive, switching off and losing Lewandowski in their goal. One report describes his play as 'embarrassing'.
I haven't liked Mustafi playing for Arsenal for some considerable time and I know that selling him is easier said than done considering his wages, but this man can surely not be playing in our defence for the upcoming season. We need to cut our losses on him, sell him for peanuts and go again.

29 Dec 2018 18:34:57
Useless non existent defending again. We looked scared of them and defeated even before we took the lead. How a club of our supposed stature can concede 4 goals like that in one half of football is beyond me. The whole defence needs sacking and rebuilding. Utterly useless.

Gooner Jim

1.) 29 Dec 2018 18:58:22
Not sure we have moved much forward - how did Palace / Leicester / CARDIFF get on away to Pool? Just seeing where I set my expectations as every man and his dog knew the defence needed sorting - have we improved?

2.) 29 Dec 2018 18:59:34
Also - where is the effort and pride and winning mentality

We couldn’t pass 5 yards to a green shirt.

3.) 29 Dec 2018 19:05:22
The honeymoon is over and it's back down to earth with a bang.
Our defence has been awful for years but our mentality was better in the first half of the season, now it's time for Dick to show us he won't put up with this kind of performance and use January to make his point both with ins and outs.
100,000 % behind you Dick, be brave Be strong be ruthless and you can start by playing Lacasette for 90 minutes and Stop giving the captaincy to the least committed players too, what ever your reasons they haven't worked out.

4.) 29 Dec 2018 19:13:53
Many many questions and decisions to justify / answer

Should have been ruthless day 1.

5.) 29 Dec 2018 19:24:10
Im pretty sure Dick wants to play three at the back, for me forget any other position until next summer, go out and buy two top players to play in defence. Apart from outing xhaka, that is the biggest problem, defence. The team actually is pretty well set up for three at the back but it needs some decent defenders and quick. As you say gunner 1000000% behind Dick but he needs to get pushy with the owner and get what he needs. We need to at least stay in touch with the top four.

6.) 29 Dec 2018 19:26:18
Absolute crap. Have we really progressed? Truthfully? No passion or fight - poor tactics - poor passing - no defence and not starting a Laca! Come on Emery, still behind you but earn your check buddy and sort this shower out.

7.) 29 Dec 2018 19:26:40
We didn't want change for changes sake we wanted a different Arsenal to the one Arsene kept giving us season after season after season after season, this is Dicks first humiliation and it needs to be the last for a long long time.
Love ya Dick but you've got to give us better than what we'd already had more than enough of 5 years ago.

8.) 29 Dec 2018 19:36:50
He should have purchased 3 good Centrebacks - simple

He played safe and F’d up - just my opinion and not one I just adopted recently.

9.) 29 Dec 2018 19:45:00
Totally think Dick is the right man Steve no doubt about it in my mind but in reality it's irrelevant what I think it's only relevant what actually happens on the pitch.
I'm not up for another 5 years of groundhog with a different man playing the lead role, we saw a different Arsenal under Dick initially with effort commitment passion that we hadn't seen for years but that's now looking like a novelty that's now worn off?
Time will tell, I can take losing no problem but I want effort commitment passion and fight even when we lose.

10.) 29 Dec 2018 19:52:05
Why did we just swap one attacker ( PEA - top scorer ) for Laca when chasing the game and why didn’t Kos start and Laca also? Crap tactics and tired of the treatment of Laca - why won’t you start them both up front?

11.) 29 Dec 2018 20:15:19
It's a mystery SY, play Pea and Lacasette or make sure you win without doing so, strange decisions are fine when all goes well but when it doesn't your asking for pressure.

12.) 29 Dec 2018 20:40:42
I am getting pissed off with Emery. Not ruthless enough based on what was required at the time, team lacks passion and work rate, defence no better and he was gifted the attack. I will give him time but I would be more forgiving if he actually made some big decisions in the one area everyone except Wenger knew we needed to sort - bloody defence. His tactics seem odd and he needs to get nasty and quick. He can’t do anything at the moment - paying for his mistakes now. He just must show he’s learned this window. Lack of cover in defence is his own dumb ass fault.
Teams way below us will put up better fights at Anfield. I know I am a bad loser but he’s really pissed me off.

13.) 29 Dec 2018 21:02:15
Your patience never lasted very long Sy. Rome wasn't built in a day.

14.) 29 Dec 2018 21:26:25
If I see decisiveness and improvements - very patient.

That’s what the rebuild required with an aging injury ridden under performing club

If he had bought 3 quality young CBs then that would have shut me up especially with Torreira.

15.) 29 Dec 2018 23:37:36
Why didn't Kos start!
Didnt you see him running in quicksand when he came on? His legs have gone!

06 Aug 2018 15:55:34
Hi Eds. I've been reading about Jerome Boateng today and am wondering whether in your opinion, is this just made up rubbish or could this actually happen? Thanks.

Gooner Jim

{Ed002's Note - It rather depends what you have been reading.}

1.) 06 Aug 2018 17:22:00
That arsenal are looking to buy Boateng?

{Ed002's Note - Gosh.}

2.) 06 Aug 2018 18:17:32
Lool i'm joking ed.

3.) 07 Aug 2018 07:48:42
In that case csoh 😂.

18 Apr 2018 12:09:32
Alright lads,

Does anyone else think that most of the songs we sing at matches have been oh so boring for a long time now? There are many players who we don't even have songs for. Well, my 6 year old was playing FIFA yesterday evening and turned to me and said, "Dad, what is Arsenal's song for Lacazette. I came up with something fairly quickly and thought I would share with some of you miserable sods to try and lighten the mood, haha. I am thick skinned so please throw your worst at me if it is really that bad.

To the tune of Agadoo:

La-ca-zette zette zette
Will score a goal today don't fret
Lacazette zette zette
Will bag another one I bet
To the left, to the right
He'll score all day and score all night
When the balls hit the net
It's Alexandre La-ca-zette

I'm signing autographs on request.

Gooner Jim

1.) 18 Apr 2018 13:13:08
It's a yes from me Jim.

2.) 18 Apr 2018 14:03:47
Thanks jim, now i can't get that bloody tune out of my head. Thanks.

3.) 18 Apr 2018 15:42:54
Me too 😂.

4.) 18 Apr 2018 15:47:57
Every time i hear Aubameyang's name i just want to sing Black Betty - Ram Jam. Someone give it go and post some lyrics! Ha.

5.) 18 Apr 2018 16:29:07
What we and most clubs could do with is our own anthem that is a decent verse long apposed to a short and sweet chorus that by the time one end of the Emirates has heard what the other end is signing it's over.
"You'll never walk alone " and " forever blowing bubbles " to me are crowd lifting inspirational tunes that inspire the whole crowd apposed to small sections and create a much more passionate atmosphere for players and fans alike.
Coming up with a passionate Arsenal anthem that we can make our own and isn't player related so is timeless would be a brilliant way to launch the new era next season that we all hope will be announced this summer or sooner even.

6.) 18 Apr 2018 16:54:36
Sorry, but no singing is allowed at The Emirates.

Its a library not a bloody Bon Jovi concert 😂.

7.) 18 Apr 2018 17:08:38
Don't let RG hear you say that Dags you will give him idea's
He's not right happy about people spending their spare time doing what they enjoy so I'm sure he'd take a very dim view of people singing full stop let alone songs he himself hasn't given his approval to first be it at the Emirates or anywhere else come to that :-)

8.) 18 Apr 2018 17:18:45
Gunner, like it or not, 1 nil to the arsenal, was about as iconic a tune we have ever had, Debateable. But that song was buried years ago.

9.) 18 Apr 2018 17:49:28
Your right Steve but we are all hoping for a new era so it would be brilliant to start it with a new anthem.
Both Arsenal and Newcastle are currently held back from having any chance of reaching their full potential by one man at each club, Arsene and Mike Ashley respectively.
So if Arsene goes this summer I'm thinking Freedom by Wham :-)

10.) 18 Apr 2018 18:22:31
We could play a song about champions

Oh wait, that hasn't happened in 14 years.

11.) 18 Apr 2018 18:37:52
We could swap champion the wonder horse for Arsenal the wonder years Mark :-) or Coldplay when I ruled the world (now I clean the streets in used to own) :-)

12.) 18 Apr 2018 18:56:13
Got it! Ernie! But replace Ernie for Arsene and Ted the baker man for Jose:-)

They won't forget old Arsene :-)

ARSENE, and he had the worse defenders in the west ohhh Ahhh.

13.) 19 Apr 2018 07:42:47
What happened to 'Arsenal We're On Your Side'?

Sounds like a Christmas song but having that collectively sung around the Emirates would be good! haha.

25 Feb 2018 18:04:58
How can these Wenger teams be allowed to continue? I can't believe how our defensive frailties haven't been addressed for so long now is beyond me. Years now, years.
There is a huge lack of fight and determination in our team. Remember the days of Adams, Keown, Wrighty, Vieira et al. Could you imagine those type of players ever performing like some of these do? There are so many just bang average or even worse players that fill the squad now.
I have agreed with everything Gary Neville has said on the commentary. Arsenal are a disgrace. Walking around the football pitch, at Wembley no less, when losing 2-0. Absolute disgrace.
Wenger should resign today.

Gooner Jim

1.) 25 Feb 2018 18:15:07
Poor showing, can’t the board or Wenger see where we are weak.

{Ed025's Note - only if they look in the mirror BG..

2.) 25 Feb 2018 18:21:15
If Wenger doesn't resign tomorrow, the board must sack him.

3.) 25 Feb 2018 18:25:56
Some Arsenal fans are staying to the end in order to beat the rush :-)
It's difficult to be too disappointed as it's nothing we haven't seen many times before and didn't all half expect to see.

4.) 25 Feb 2018 18:30:42
Won’t happen RG.

5.) 25 Feb 2018 18:36:49
Just go wenger. No one wants you up the club any more.

6.) 25 Feb 2018 18:50:53
If we'd pulled off a surprise victory it wouldn't have changed the minds of those who want Arsene to go and once the dust is settled on today all those who were quite happy with Arsene before kick off will feel the same by this time tomorrow.
Today doesn't and shouldn't change anyone's opinion either way.
Today changes nothing that many many poor performances and results didn't change before.

7.) 25 Feb 2018 19:19:21
Such a soft display with no passion players without commitment and fight just strolling around. Yes Man city can out play you as they are a quality side but there is no excuse for the lack of commitment and physicality put into the game. Wenger is not able to motivate his players and quite simply has to go.

Thanks for the response Ed002. Why then do you think the club or whoever makes these decisions to run the club in this way cannot see that the way it is structured will not attract these names? Surely they must be intelligent enough to ask themselves why these managers won't come? Thanks in advance.

So, so disillusioned with everything at the club. I can't see how Arteta can be the one to turn this club around. We seem to be going from one bad mistake to the next and not learning from any of them.
We must get the right manager in the job before we can hope for anything else. In my opinion we needed a manager with a wealth of experience, a Benitez or an Ancelotti.
Also, what is it with all the comments everywhere from fans, pundits etc about how Arsenal are brilliant going forward and have top strikers at the club. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't think we're brilliant at all going forward. I think we are slow, predictable and boring to watch, plus I'll throw in how we are also gutless, spineless and an embarrassment to the shirt. At the beginning of the season some people were comparing our front 3 with Liverpool's! Laughable.
I think most need the sack to be honest. Where are these players dignity and self-respect? The club from top to bottom is rotten to the core and just stale. It needs ripping up and starting all over again or we will be having the same comments and discussions in another 15 years.

Gooner Jim

{Ed002's Note - The structure of the club will not attract the managers you want.}
