Latest from Fabrizio

Arsenal are offering Granit Xhaka a new deal until June 2025 with an increased salary - more than what AS Roma are proposing in their contract bid. ⚪️🔴 #AFC

AS Roma last bid was €12m + €3m add ons, turned down. Arsenal are now confident to extend Xhaka contract soon.

You couldn't make it up 😂😂.

1.) 30 Jul 2021 20:38:24
Why should we sell him on the cheap. Rather him in the squad to elneny to be honest.

2.) 30 Jul 2021 21:44:49
Honestly D16 mate so would I over Mo but I find it funny that that he was on the verge of leaving, to now potentially offering him a new contract. I don't want to sell him on the cheap but also understand that we desperately need to raise funds.

3.) 30 Jul 2021 22:12:02
Yep I'd rather he stayed if that's all they were offering, because we are unlikely to find a good replacement for 12m. Sambi and Partey can't play every game, we need the depth.

Thing is though D16 I doubt you'd find anyone willing to give us £12m for Elneny 😂.

4.) 31 Jul 2021 07:26:56
And that's the other issue wire, who is going to give us anything for Elneny! We have a half a squad of players who simply need to leave but interest is very minimal and clubs will try their best to take advantage of that with low offers. It is vital we sell though so we better suck it up. Short term pain, long term gain 👍🏻.

5.) 31 Jul 2021 10:02:33
I hope this is not true, been waiting for Xhaka to leave
since 2017, sorry he is just not good enough, proven by the fact that only Roma want him and at 15 mill, to offer him a new deal plus pay rise it imho utter madness but nothing surprises me anymore from Arteta and Edu, i can only hope Roma offer a few more million.

6.) 31 Jul 2021 10:50:58
Yeah fair point Glenn, we have half a team to shift. I can't see Elneny having any offers.

7.) 31 Jul 2021 16:56:44
The difference between the two is that we only paid about 5m for Elneny, so not being worth with is not a shock. Xhaka on the other hand is about the worst devaluation you could get. I have kept cars that held better value than him.

8.) 31 Jul 2021 19:52:49
We've either gone backwards or failed to progress each and every season since Xhaka arrived, prior to siging Xhaka we had 20 consecutive years of top 4 finishes but since Xhaka joined we've slipped from Cl to El to now not qualifying for European football at all, coincidence? Maybe but even his biggest fan would struggle to make a case for how he's improve us in any away since he arrived.
Surely it's time to accept it didn't work out for us and Xhaka together and move on.

9.) 31 Jul 2021 20:18:57
Couldn’t have put it better myself G62.

{Ed014's Note - me too, just get shot of him

10.) 31 Jul 2021 21:43:55
Cheers Epping mate and Ed014, there surely comes a time when if you want things to be different you've got to accept what hasn't worked out and make that change possible.

{Ed014's Note - I’m truly hoping Arteta is picking up and all these things we see and irons them out.

I must admit seeing that farcical goal we conceded against Watford last week really concerns me though.

11.) 31 Jul 2021 22:37:41
We keep playing out from the back but never seem to get any better at it Ed014 mate, I'm not sure how many times you have to knock yourself out before you come to the conclusion boxing isn't your thing.

{Ed014's Note - I don’t have a problem playing out from the back but I don’t think for starters Leno fills our defence with any confidence because he’s so bad at it. Add Xhaka into that mix and light the touch paper!

That then just compounds everything else and seeing it happening again is just a tad disheartening.

12.) 01 Aug 2021 15:35:54
Elneny was very slopping in that goal we conceded. Really don't see his purpose in the team.

13.) 02 Aug 2021 06:07:54
@G62: Can’t the same can be said to Auba, Laca as well? How can you blame a particular player for the misgiving or underperformance of a team? I don’t understand.

14.) 02 Aug 2021 14:09:24
Sen I wanted to make that point as well. Those stats you just can’t keep using against one player. You could also add it coincides with Arsene leaving.

We didn’t lose a game I believe in the first 20+ games Mustafi played for us. And at one point had a better overall stats than Maguire.

15.) 02 Aug 2021 22:00:44
Hi Senior, hi Yard, Auba joined well after we'd already lost champions league football and the decline didn't start when Arsene left it actually brought about his having to leave, we finish 6th and 5th in Arsenes last 2 seasons.
When Xhaka and Mustafi arrived we were still a champions league club but our failure to qualify began with thier arrival.

I genuinely can't remember when Laca joined and can't be bothered to Google it, but I do think we have finished top 4 with Laca, obviously that would have to be before the arrival of Xhaka if true 😎😆😀.

27 Jul 2021 18:03:58
Evening Ed,

This is a rumour that I'm not expecting to carry much substance but but reports tonight are suggesting Arsenal are interested in Lautaro Martinez. Is there any truth in this? Could Bellerin be included in the deal perhaps with them being interested?
We would need to raise an incredible amount of funds in the remainder of the window, I just can't see it.

Look forward to your response :)

Thank you.

{Ed002's Note - Lautaro Martinez (S) Inter don't want to sell and long-term admirers Barcelona and Manchester City are looking elsewhere although Barcelona would like to add him in 2022, but significant sales would still be required and they have added Aguero and Depay. Real Madrid are trying to convince the club otherwise and will offer an assortment of players they no longer want in exchange. Atletico Madrid are interested if he becomes available but money would be an issue without a major sale. With the coach departing Inter the club will be better placed to raise the €140M they need before selling to buy. There is support for him from an ex-Chelsea player who is a potential Director of Football at the club but he would be a little down the list at Chelsea. I am not aware of any approach from Arsenal but they do want a striker. The player would want Champions League football I imagine.}

1.) 27 Jul 2021 19:18:50
Excellent, thank you Ed! If we want a striker then it's a fabulous target. Hopefully whoever else we have in mind is of similar age and ability.

2.) 28 Jul 2021 10:42:22
As always your info and time dedicated here is appreciated, that goes for all the eds.
I know you have strong opinions on how Arsenals hierarchy is structured and you haven’t been happy with current representatives approach to transfers.
But can I ask what you think of the current situation with regards to the approach they are taking because I’m scratching my head here while some fellow fans are being distracted by a couple of new signings and rumoured links.
I’m concerned right now because I do not see a clear plan here. Guendouzi out when we needed that type of CM is fine by me if it’s for conduct and disciplinary reasons, but we still need a player of his type. Saliba is clearly a personal dispute the manager has somewhere and he may have to answer for that sooner rather than later.
Balogun was convinced to stay obviously with a promise of a fair shake within the first team squad this season.
Smith Rowe has signed on and his preferred position is as a 10.
Not expecting you to know the inner workings of a club who it would flatter to call hap hazard in their transfer approach right now, but can you tell me what you think about rumours like this one above where we seem to be targeting players for positions that hamper young players with massive potential while other positions like RB and CM are seemingly seen as less of a priority?
Like I said I know you won’t have details but you have a broad knowledge of talented young players of which we have a few and I’d love to hear your opinion on whether the decision makers here right now have the eye or sense not to panic because it looks to me like Edu cannot be trusted in that department.
Basically I’m saying replacing Bellerin and co with an actual RB is a far more pressing issue than adding another centre forward to a list that has Auba, Martinelli and Balogun already on it even if we lose Lacca and Eddie.
Would you agree?

{Ed002's Note - Edu has an advisor who helps the club out and is likely the person who enquired about Martinez but there has not been a direct approach to Inter - so it would be someone acting on behalf of Arsenal talking to his agent. No doubt they would have been told that negotiations can start around €100M.

In terms of the players you have mentioned, Guendouzi really wanted out and has had a great deal to say about Arsenal to his new side. Saliba has had his career disrupted by Arsenal and wants a permanent exit - there is no option right now but there is an agreement with the lady from Marseille that she can make a proposal later in the season if she wants. In terms of replacing Bellerin the club has a very clear idea who they want - but they need to start bringing in money through sales and with time passing the sale of Bellerin may be getting more difficult. A reluctance to negotiate has made the move of Xhaka difficult and the club need to sort out the situation with Willian to free up wages.

The focus is not immediately on youngsters but on recovering as much of the money spent as they can.}

3.) 28 Jul 2021 12:29:11
I also imagine ED, regarding Martinez regardless of the transfer fee, we’ve got a few strikers on the books that needs cutting back with about 3 youngsters trying to push for a starting spot. And Martinelli will need to start getting playing time otherwise other teams will I’m sure come in for him and I’ve read Arteta sees him as a 9 so be interesting to see what happens there.

{Ed002's Note - It is a good point. I am surprised Martinelli does not get more time already. Lacazette is clearly on is way out. Nketiah is another who is looking at options to move on and kickstart his career. I expect a S will be added but it will be a more modest signing than Lautaro Martinez.}

4.) 28 Jul 2021 16:53:56
Thank you for the speedy response Ed, have a good one 🤙.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

5.) 28 Jul 2021 17:10:06
Hello Ed002, Brilliant info as always. Just out of curiosity : (a) Is that advisor Kia?

Also, (b) I think what Shambo wanted to ask you (apologies Shambo if my assumption is flawed) is your opinion on Edu and how good he is in his job. I have heard a few podcasts and some journalists with decent pedigree say that he is 'ruthless' and generally that he is well aligned with what is best for the club.

I also understand that getting deals done and selling players is a much more complicated science than just the competency of a technical director. But someone like you might be able to understand and review the work Edu (and to some extent Richard Garlick) is doing at our club. I remember you mentioning the mess our executive committee had become during the days of Raul.

How far have we come in repairing that?

Thanks in any case

{Ed002's Note - Kia and Edu are close and Kia has been paid as an advisor in addition to transfers he has organised. Remember Kia is a "representative" of players rather than a licensed "agent". Adding Richard Garlick as Director of Football Operations in addition to Edu has seemingly not clarified all of the issues and overlap between staff responsibilities. All of this means that there have been quite a few players unhappy with their lot. Nearly all have left, but not all. Two very experienced players don't think that Arteta is tactically astute enough at this level. What will be interesting is where Coutinho ends up.}

6.) 28 Jul 2021 20:10:39
Thanks Ed appreciate the more detailed and insightful information we have been received especially on this thread. Long may it last.

7.) 28 Jul 2021 23:12:23
Absolutely love this info Ed. Really gives us a reflection of what the club is doing and helps us be more realistic about what we expect. And realistic doesn't . want negative at all.

I feel we'll improve from last season, just how much is not clear. Anyways we'll have a full documentary to watch it in detail, innit?

8.) 29 Jul 2021 02:05:36
Ed, this is some brilliant feedback and much appreciated.
However, it makes me despair to think how incompetent so many people are that are in positions of authority and influence at such a once well regarded and soundly run footballing institution.
I can only assume this is a manifestation born out of absenteeism on behalf of the ownership. It seems their approach has been to balance gradual decline, consciously initiated by using the club to fund other ventures as opposed to investing in it on the field, by offering up strategic compensatory appointments of ex club players to positions of so called influence to decrease the likelihood of all out rejection across the fanbase.
It’s pretty evident Edu was appointed because the romantic side of the fans would find it difficult to attack him initially and this would buy the Kroenkes time. The fact Edu does not trust his own abilities to fulfill his obligations under his own judgement, yet he remains in the role, is evidence of alternate non footballing motivations on behalf of the owners, that or they are even more clueless that originally feared.
To now learn that Kia is being given full remit to indulge his own personal massive conflict of interest, getting paid by us to recommend and supply players to us that he represents in a third party capacity, is absolutely nauseating and again screams of systematic incompetency and gross negligence at ownership level.
The appointment of Arteta, while not confirmed yet as a completely poor choice, should also now be under the spotlight in my opinion to be scrutinised as to whether fans again were played on an emotional level so that the corporate interests of The Kroenkes could be afforded more breathing space at a time where they were facing massive united fan revolt, while we have since learned they were simultaneously planning to participate in a breakaway league which had no bearing again on our ability to perform or strive to be better where it matters most, on the pitch.
It’s no surprise players are not confident of Artetas appointment and tactical proficiency if they care about the club or are aware of the inner workings behind the scenes. There is plenty of evidence of tactical ineptitude and poor man management already so much so that you will find it hard to find one fan who will tell you Arteta has more than this transfer window left to prove himself.
I also understand the Kroenkes have dismissed proposals from fans groups to have a seat at the table and option to buy shares so that we can have influence over the motivations behind some decision making processes we are no longer privy to due to the majority ownership and policy under which they operate.
I can see why ed002 finds these methods so distasteful, we are being run by a very sneaky and unethical corporate driven entity who are soulless when it comes to their so called attachment to our football club or the game itself on a broader level.
Nothing will improve until they are gone and there is a complete overhaul. The best we can hope for is that they buckle in times of pressure and invest, but even if this is one of those times right now we still have corruption and incompetence, let’s call them Kia and Edu, overseeing the distribution of this investment into players like Willian while obscene amounts of money evaporates out of the footballing community into pockets of men like Kia and other ‘third party reps’. Is it any wonder this club is attracting corrupt vultures like Kia and Raul when the absentee landlords are never around to impose checks and balances.
I’m disgusted.

{Ed002's Note - There are other people in the mix as well - some of which had promises made to them that were not kept.}

9.) 29 Jul 2021 18:11:58
This is deeply disturbing Shambo! : (.

06 Jul 2021 09:42:12
Good Morning Ed002,

Would you possibly be able to provide some information regarding our current attacking midfield targets?

It's one position that's gone rather quiet as far as rumours go and with Odegaard not returning it would be good to know who are priorities are now.

Thank you :)

{Ed002's Note - Obviously much will depend on whether ESR departs. But it is something like this:

Nabil Fekir (AM) Real Betis are happy to sell Fekir who they see as not contributing enough in terms of goals although he has had a reasonable season. They want €35M - may be tough to find a buyer. The suggestion that Arsenal could look to Fekir if Real Madrid won't part with Martin Odegaard is intriguing but Brandt would be a better option. Fekir is keen to stay at Betis.
Julian Brandt (AM) again a player who was being considered by Arsenal. He would be a reasonable price and would be an Oezil replacement but it will now depend on the future of MO. Asking price is €25M.
Philippe Coutinho (AM) Another possible Odegaard replacement. His "representative" will be keen and would like to add him to the squad. A cheap option.
Manor Solomon (LW/AM) Shakhtar Donetsk rejected an offer for the player from Atalanta and don't have the serious financial problems that will force them to sell players cheaply. However, they do have a surplus of LW which is his natural position and may be open to a good offer. Arsenal had been scouting another Shakhtar Donetsk so have perhaps had their attention drawn to him last summer. I am not aware of any agreeement though. There has been a discussion over agent fees which might prove to be a stumbling block. Prior interest of Newcastle seems to have gone.}

1.) 06 Jul 2021 10:53:37
Excellent, thank you Ed.

Brandt would be a good addition to the squad, especially due to the fact that both him and ESR can rotate between central and wide positions.

Appreciate the update :)

2.) 06 Jul 2021 17:34:15
Would be shameful to sell ESR.

30 Jun 2021 08:24:14
Latest from Romano.

Arsenal are set to complete both Nuno Tavares and Lokonga signings in the next few days - confirmed and here we go soon #AFC

Lokonga will join for €17.5m + add ons, now final details on future sale %.

Paperwork is to be signed soon with Benfica for Tavares [€8m + add ons].

Good business.

1.) 30 Jun 2021 08:49:33
Hi Ed002 mate, your opinionon the two signings?

{Ed002's Note - Lokonga is a player who is well thought of and is reasonably priced. Tavares would need to be have given commitments he will play.}

2.) 30 Jun 2021 10:01:04
Thanks Ed, progress seems to be getting made.

3.) 30 Jun 2021 17:41:41
Based on Tierney's injury record, Tavares will get plenty of playing time.

21 Jun 2021 15:25:30
Good Afternoon Ed,

Another day, another name in the mix for Arsenal.

Is Andre Silva of interest and can you provide an update on the situation with Lacazette please? Is there any interest or do Arsenal wish to offer him a new deal?

Thank you.

{Ed002's Note - Andre Silva (S) was recommended to several clubs, certainly including Everton and Manchester United, by a very high-end independent scout who used to play in the Premier League. This dates back to last summer before his loan became a permanent move. I expect that Atletico Madrid will look to him and previous interest of the likes of Wolverhampton and Arsenal will have gone - although Arsenal do want an Lacazette replacement and could yet consider him. My expectation is that he will also be offered to Manchester United as a Cavani replacement for next year and they will have the opportunity to ease him in. I also expect Real Madrid to look at him as a potential Mariano Diaz replacement and look to use Luka Jovic as part of the deal. Outside chance that Manchester City could look to him but not as first choice.}

1.) 21 Jun 2021 15:52:25
Excellent info, thank you Ed.

Do you expect us to try and move Lacazette on or let his contract run down? Obviously a replacement is very much subject to sales and other signings that are made. There isn't exactly many rumours of clubs looking at him either.

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal want to sell him.}

2.) 21 Jun 2021 17:26:03
Great info Ed thank you.

I know your not here to answer constant questions but Could I ask. If Arsenal are looking to sell Lacazette do we have targets in mind to replace him? Or are we looking to promote what we already have? ie Balogun, Martinelli

Thanks in advance mate and appreciate the info ofcourse.

3.) 21 Jun 2021 18:01:26
Thank you Ed 😁.

Granit Xhaka is going to Pirlo us into the top 4, you all know it. Class season from him ;)

1.) 02 Aug 2021 19:37:54
Plus Leno will break the record for most clean sheets kept and least goals conceded during season, it's all so obvious Glen mate 🖒🖒🖒.

2.) 02 Aug 2021 20:24:32
Based on recent seasons, the best way for Xhaka to add points to our total is to either sit on the bench, or to go elsewhere.

01 Aug 2021 17:44:58
Party's injury is not looking good. Off for a scan tomorrow to confirm the extent of the injury 😭.

1.) 01 Aug 2021 18:01:11
Was never injured until he joined us. Didn't look great- wouldn't be surprised if he's out for a bit.

2.) 01 Aug 2021 21:11:31
At least we have Granit.

29 Jul 2021 11:30:23
Unpopular opinion but I would rather have Martin Odegaard over James Maddison 100%.

22, great technical ability, excellent vision, doesn't stop running, versatile, very little injury history and half the cost!
He would also be better for us for rotation because he can play in the middle and off the right.

1.) 29 Jul 2021 13:12:30
I have my reservations Glenn. From what I seen, torturing myself watching every Arsenal game last season, he can be quite passive in tight games. I told myself it was potentially down to adjusting to a new team and league.
But one thing you cannot accuse Maddison of is not being able to recognise a pivotal moment in a game and grab it by the scruff of the neck.
This is what your paying for and it’s what is hard got these days as too many modern footballers are passive and happy to not impress their personalities or influence on games because they know managers will usually carry the cost of their inconsistency or indifference.
Maddison is ruthless in this regard. This is the type we used to have when our collective mindset was unmatched.
I can’t say I agree with the fee if we were to buy as I’d be terrified Leicester’s recruitment team would go buy 3 more of him with the money, but the attributes of the player Arteta is identifying here is bang on.

2.) 29 Jul 2021 13:22:40

3.) 29 Jul 2021 14:03:03
Yeah I do agree with you Shambo. Maddison is a very very good player and would be excellent in any team.

For me his price tag is far too high and comes with a very risky injury record. We do not need another player who only manages half a season due to injury. He's had 122 days out in the last 2 seasons alone.

Odegaard had 6 months and I think we can all appreciate that coming from spanish football to the prem, especially half way through the season is no easy feat. He showed glimpses of quality and I wouldn't be disappointed if we signed him permanently.

4.) 29 Jul 2021 15:13:14
If I’m honest I don’t rate either.
I’d take Pereira from West Brom over both Maddison and Odegaard for half the price no doubt too.

5.) 29 Jul 2021 16:43:06
Very good player jeg mate 👍🏻.

6.) 29 Jul 2021 18:10:26
Totally agree Jegooner.

7.) 29 Jul 2021 20:49:28
Only issue with Madderson is his disciplinary record. Been dropped numerous of times and his injury record is something we could do without. No doubting his ability but massive doubts about the guy he is.

{Ed014's Note - doesn’t work hard enough, more of a glory hunter, it’s a big no from me.

8.) 29 Jul 2021 21:51:47
Madderson is another player who given his personality record to date would almost inevitably clash with Mikels man management style so would be a crazy signing.

9.) 29 Jul 2021 21:54:56
I saw a post on twitter earlier about this debate and 60% of the votes out of 30k are swaying in MO's favour.

28 Jul 2021 22:07:02
Loving what I'm seeing from Sambi Lokonga. He's really good in tight spaces and looks super comfortable when being pressured. The way he scans and always looks forward is exactly what I want to see. He also covers ground effortlessly. Early days but very exciting nonetheless 👏🏻 let's see how he gets on against Chelsea and Tottenham.

22 Jul 2021 12:39:39
I wouldn't be to displeased with Tammy Abraham but it depend on the deal itself. I certainly wouldn't want us paying over the odds for him but something like a loan with an option to buy would be perfect for us. It gives us cover, it offers us a different dynamic up top when the game needs to change and he's still young. With all the balls coming in from Tierney/ Taveres and now White playing from deep, Tammy's strength will be something that could benefit us loads. Laca will leave us on a free next summer so if we have an option, it could well work out well for us?

1.) 22 Jul 2021 17:03:25
Only way it would be a loan would be with an obligation to buy as he only has 2 years left and won’t sign an extension which is why Chelsea are getting shot of him this summer.

Zakaria would be a great signing.

With the amount of players we need to shift in the middle of the park though I can't see him or Bissouma happening.

Bringing in Lokonga adds to that and I'm looking forward to seeing him play. Very highly rated, a captain at 21 and looks like he has excellent composure on the ball.

He is most definitely good enough. The issue is that he struggles to keep fit and that's certainly what we don't want, especially for a player with a fee of his size.

Personally unless we play a 3, I don't think Holding will start. It's nothing against him as a player but Gabriel and White make the back 2. Arteta prefers a right footed player as RCB and a left footed player as LCB and I prefer it that way. I look forward to seeing White and Gabby as our pairing 😁.
