With 1 day to go in the transfer what is everyone's thoughts on our business?
I was expecting:
CM- Sambi looks like he has potential but we should have offloaded Xhaka and brought someone like Bissouma in as well.
RB- Bellerin obviously wants out, and Cedric is not good enough. I'm hoping something happens in the next 24hrs.
Target man- teams have realised that if they force us into wide positions there is absolutely no threat. We should have pushed for Abraham here.
GK- happy with Ramsdale. I think he'll become No.1 over the course of the season.
I still don't get the Ben White transfer. He could end being great for us but did we need him and could £50m have been spent better elsewhere?

Disappointed in the window - we’ve invested a lot of money and not really improved the starting 11

Concerned about White getting bullied, Goslie not being good playing from the back and not impressed with us not addressing RB, creativity and goal threat. Biggest concern is leadership on the pitch and playing at a slow pace.

It’s sad thinking about it.

I’d be happy with White in a back 3 with Saliba and Holding.

I think if we can get the ball forward faster - pea will score goals especially if he has the freedom to drift from centre to inside left but never on left as he’s a useless winger

I’d be happy if we signed a CM and a RB as we really need those spots.

Here’s a suggestion - 3 at back with AMN and Tierney as Wingbacks.

Partey plus 1 in CM

Pepe PEA Saka

Against weaker teams I’d play ESR or Ode with Partey and stronger teams I’d play Partey and a beast

I’m only suggesting 3 at the back because I’m concerned about White which is crazy as we would then be reducing our attacking players to add 1 at the back because of a signing we didn’t really need especially with Saliba staring on loan.

2.) 30 Aug 2021 10:26:18
We really need another rb and cf. I doubt we will get either to be honest. Another cm would be a bonus.

Don't get the whole did we need Ben white to be honest. Only time will tell if we over spent but as for the other cbs we have aside from gabriel they are all useless.

{Ed014's Note - apart from Saliba of course

3.) 30 Aug 2021 10:37:19
We probably did need a new CB, D16 but I think in a future window. I would have prefered £50m spent on an experienced CM.

4.) 30 Aug 2021 11:52:01
Of course Ed apart from saliba. I. Find it odd as he is young fair enough if he isn't ready then loan him out. But to think he can't be ready with some of the crap we have is laughable.

{Ed014's Note - I’d put money on it he’s 100% ready and it’s just Arteta being an utter arse.

5.) 30 Aug 2021 12:04:47
It seems Arteta only wants players he gets on with which is a terrible trait for a manager in any type of business.

{Ed014's Note - well he’s a terrible manager so guess they go hand in hand Glenn 🤣

6.) 30 Aug 2021 12:57:26
I wonder if arteta left, would saliba be in the team with a new manager.

{Ed014's Note - without a shadow of doubt that would be yes!

7.) 30 Aug 2021 13:35:49
Would we need to wait for his loan to end or the Winter window to bring Saliba back?

{Ed002's Note - When his loan is over but it is doubtful he would want to come back as things stand.}

8.) 30 Aug 2021 13:56:10
Apparently Spurs have an agreement with Barcelona for Emerson Royal. Probably the player would should have got as RB. What a joke.

9.) 30 Aug 2021 16:01:21
I guess we really don't know what it seems so bad for us. Is it majorly a lack of European football that affects the players we can bring, is it the players we have bought so underwhelming or just the way we conduct business in seeking to buy players? I can see we were determined to spend big money on two players and got the deals done eventually but was that because of lack of competition for those players?

The Ben White deal may later prove to be a good one, but in this moment it is not because of his lack of experience in the EPL. I can see us buying another defender in about 2 seasons from from, especially if Saliba doesn't return unless someone breaks through from the youth team. Holding is capable but just doesn't have the finest and Mari I can't believe is that bad for is experience. Is he lacking confidence or what?

Ramsdale purchase is similar not a good one in this moment unless Leno leaves this window, which is clearly not happening. Even if he becomes number 1 this season it's too much money concentrated in the squad.

Sorry Ed14 it just never looked realistic for Bissouma happening with Partey a mainstay in the team and Sambi Lokonga coming in. I think that would have been three players with basically the same profile. Torriera is different and should have stayed for the difficult games to break up games with less chance of being carded.

Honestly, I worry for us having ESR and Odegaard as our creative mid. They are not top four and doesn't even feel like top 6 in the present moment when we want break back into that group.

The frightening thing is I even worry more about our strikers. We couldn't score goals in pre-season and expect to score goals in the league. It's such a sticky situation because we see PEA as a better goalscorer that Laca and he may score. However, the team score more goals with Laca. How do you bench your captain, apparently best striker and highest earner and make it work?

10.) 30 Aug 2021 17:42:56
My biggest concern is Saliba. Ed has repeatedly said he has no future with us.

As for the window, I see the club lowering the wage bill, investing in the future. I am pleased with some signings, verdict's yet to come on a few more. There is a direction, but it is difficult to stomach.

02 Dec 2019 07:45:29
Any chance we can end Saliba's loan early and get him in January?

Glenn Helder

{Ed002's Note - No, that is not possible.}

1.) 02 Dec 2019 10:34:03
And is Holding's absence from the recent squad due to lack of match fitness?

{Ed047's Note - he’s not listed as injured and is always in the training photos so they’re not liking what they see I guess.

2.) 02 Dec 2019 12:49:45
Can you imagine how bad he must look to not get ahead of Luiz or mustafi, let alone not make the bench!

{Ed047's Note - no Eden I can’t mate because he isn’t that bad

3.) 02 Dec 2019 12:49:45
Can you imagine how bad he must look to not get ahead of Luiz or mustafi, let alone not make the bench!

{Ed047's Note - no Eden I can’t mate because he isn’t that bad

4.) 02 Dec 2019 13:05:05
Ed any truth in the rumours linking aubamayang to Madrid? Reports saying 70mil + Rodriguez.

{Ed002's Note - There is zero chance of an offer like that. Arsenal will sell if Aubameyangadingdong fails to sign a new contract. There will be takers but right now they need to sort out the medium term and persuade him to sign.}

5.) 02 Dec 2019 18:13:56
Holding looks good in a back 3 but struggles Just like the rest in flat back 4.
Overall it doesn't seem to make any difference flat back 4 or 3 at the back, Xhaka in or out nothing seems to change no matter who or what formation we play.
Something is somewhere is amiss and we need to firstly find out what it is then do whatever it takes to sort it out.

6.) 03 Dec 2019 00:46:49
From what I've seen this season g62 it's three things. First, we get caught upfield too often and our defenders/ midfielders are terrible at tracking back or following their man. Of our midfielders, I have only seen Torreira do this consistently. Second, when we do manage to mark an attacker, our defenders curiously stand off him and allow the shot. See Pukki's goal for a prime example. This is a common habit of Mustafi and Luiz and to a lesser extent Chambers. Third, when we are defending and pressing, we don't cover for each other in the press so as soon as the opposing team breaks it, they have a huge chasm to stride into unimpeded before they reach the back 4. This is the main reason we concede so many shots. Watch Guendouzi and Xhaka for this and you will see how quickly our midfield gets bypassed.

7.) 03 Dec 2019 08:21:57
Excellent post wire mate and for me it's these things we should be concentrating on rather than play musical chairs with playing staff constantly. Work work work on what's wrong then in the summer evaluate who is and isn't capable of change and improvement.

I was getting frustrated by our lack of transfer activity until I see Everton are close to paying £40m for Dele Ali!

If that kind of money is needed to bring in someone of that calibre in this window I'd rather we wait for the summer.

Glenn Helder

{Ed014's Note - that truly is nuts

1.) 31 Jan 2022 21:02:55
They bought Iwobi and Theo from us for way over the odds dosh, about 30 odd million each I think so pretty much par for the corse stuff at Everton I'd say.

2.) 31 Jan 2022 21:06:44
You can’t mock Everton after we pay 72 million yes 72 million for Pepe and 30 million for Xhaka.

{Ed014's Note - can we mock United then for £70 million on Sancho and £80 million on Slab head?

3.) 31 Jan 2022 21:19:33
I don’t as our judgement is clearly as bad as theirs I’d say lol.

4.) 31 Jan 2022 21:13:57
Ox, the difference is Pepe and Xhaka were good in the leagues the were playing in. Deli Ali has been shocking in the PL for years!

5.) 31 Jan 2022 22:16:11
Ok so it’s two big ifs, but if Deli Ali is going for 40m, and if Bissouma is supposedly available for 50-60m, why on this gods given earth hasn’t someone, but mostly us, gone for Bissouma. These clubs are full of supposed experts, but do they not see something that us fans do, or do they know something that we don’t?

{Ed002's Note - You misunderstand.}

6.) 31 Jan 2022 22:58:38
£4 £40m or £400m what does it matter, it's what he does or doesn't do in their shirt fans care about.

Is keeper who coats £100m any worse than a keeper of a free if they both concede 100 goals in a season?
People get hung up on prices when in reality it's all about performance.

14 Jan 2022 18:08:20
We've requested the postponement of the game on Sunday.

Glenn Helder

1.) 14 Jan 2022 18:58:28
I think we should wait for Sue Grays investigation before making a judgement either way.

2.) 14 Jan 2022 20:21:16
Can’t see that Glenn, we have two fit keepers, unless we can break Lenos wrist.

3.) 14 Jan 2022 20:34:38
Don't fancy a trip to park lane corner on Sunday lads ???.

4.) 14 Jan 2022 21:58:37
We should have had a 14 day Circuit breaker from 1st of January following which all fixtures must be fulfilled or forfeited.

I don't care if you have to play an out field player in goal and 10 teenage old outfield players, either manage your squad better or get on with what you have, same rules for all once the circuit breaker is over.

03 Jan 2022 19:16:21
Honestly, how did we lose against Utd?!

Glenn Helder

{Ed014's Note - tell me about, got shot of Auba two games too late.

1.) 03 Jan 2022 19:28:12
We'd destroy them at the moment.

{Ed014's Note - I can’t believe that their fans think it’s the best squad they’ve had for years, wouldn’t take a single one of that pile of 5hite!

2.) 03 Jan 2022 19:31:56
The issue is our game management, we need to know how not to lose game. Sometimes we’ve already won but learn how not throw it way.

{Ed014's Note - that’s defo a factor yard, often we’ve needed that on the pitch and that wasn’t helped by our previously useless captain Aubamayang.

Arteta makes some daft decisions.

3.) 03 Jan 2022 19:47:21
Good result for our 4th place hope's, beat spuds and we stay in 4th even if other teams were to win their games in hand on us, which of course they still have to do just to keep pace with us ?.

4.) 03 Jan 2022 19:48:44
Mikel seems to have overcome tinkering and being way to concerned about the opposition that he messes up our strategy / selection. I think he’s started to get the team pressing more also which was required as you can’t play a City style game without the press. I think he’s resolved pXssing about with the ball at the back and I think he knows our weaknesses.

That’s a big step forward but we are a big club with big demands.

We also have an advantage of no European games

For me that leaves - in game management (not seen it once - except May be Vs City when he wasn’t there…) , dropping / selecting people based on performance consistently across the squad and managing difficult players.

It’s a journey and he’s earned his ticket based on current performances but let’s not kid ourselves - Results have papered over performances.

5.) 03 Jan 2022 20:09:26
G62 now you starting to believe the stars are aligning ?.

6.) 03 Jan 2022 20:18:02
I agree with most of that SY, the lack of tinkering and showing more trust in his players rather than trying to coach them during games has definitely gone a long way towards our improvement.

Undoubtedly we have been fortunate in who we've played and when we've played them but sometimes you need a bit of good fortune before you can become much more able to hold your own, as we more than did on Saturday against currently the best team in England.

New year and time for new beginnings, we hope ?.

{Ed014's Note - I guess the more they buy into and start producing what he’s demanding the less vocal he needs to be, that said Pep and Klopp have plenty to say on the touch line.

7.) 03 Jan 2022 21:38:05
That's true Ed014 mate but Klopp and Pep tend to be more encouraging and galvanising their troops where Mikel always seemed to be coaching the players as in a training session trying to influence their individual decision making, it just seems to me like he's learning to be little bit more trusting of his players once on the pitch.

Yes Yard you've converted me and I'm now fully subscribed to Russell Grants course on astrology and teabag reading for beginners ????.

{Ed014's Note - fair point mate

8.) 03 Jan 2022 21:42:44
It’s a young team they’re gathering experience they’ll get there.

9.) 03 Jan 2022 22:59:22
It’s funny, but with multiple clubs approaching the Premier league to get their games suspended while their squad is depleted, surely Man Utd could have got their games suspended indefinitely based on the fact they had to pick Phil Jones.

01 Jan 2022 15:12:45
Assistant Manager comes across really well in his interviews.

Glenn Helder

{Ed014's Note - was just thinking the same Glenn

ESR scoring for the England U21s is the 8th Arsenal player to score during this international break.

The most during any international break by players from one club in the history of World Football.

Spot on Sally. Although the performance was awful it's easy to forgot the age and inexperience of most of our players. This is all new to them and but they will learn and hopefully become better at dealing with the pressure and stress that comes with high level football.
Although the flip side of this is why don't we have more experience within the team. We can't keep buying youth and potential if we want to move forward.

Nketiah was fantastic today. Loved seeing him square up to Rice. The problem is I'm pretty sure we will buy a CF. And Eddie isn't really an impact sub or someone who can come in for the odd game as it seems like he needs a run to get better.

{Ed002's Note - He is out of contract in the summer.}
