Has anyone heard of this rumour that Guendozi had a row with the coaching staff and Arteta on the Dubai break? I notice he wasn't in the squad for Sunday's game, so that might back the rumour. To be honest, based on his recent performances, combined with Ceballos performance on Sunday, he is sadly not missed. He is another Arsenal youngster who is in danger of having his career go backwards. His performances certainly have.

EppingGooner

1.) 19 Feb 2020 10:36:51
That appears to be the case Epping but I think you're being hard on him. He's only 20 and the occasional bust-up is nothing special. I think there was a culture of entitlement that Emery fostered among many of the players so I'm glad to see Arteta challenging that ethos.

2.) 19 Feb 2020 13:19:50
I think most youngsters do have a rough patch, it's normal, maybe a spell on the sidelines will help him, he can be quite rash and his positioning is questionable.

Dropping could mean he has a boot up his arse, tries more in training and his performance goes up when he does win his spot back, worst case? He gets pi*sed off and leaves, we would move on quite fast.

20 Aug 2018 13:30:53
Much debate on what Emery needs to do, who he should play etc, but perhaps are we missing the single biggest potential difference he needs to concentrate on, and that's getting Ozil back to his best? With our current attack, getting Ozil back to playing something like what he achieved during his first season, and we will be scoring for fun, whilst alleviating some of the other worries such as our CB pairing or even Xhaka playing?

EppingGooner

1.) 20 Aug 2018 20:10:14
Ozil needs to buy in to the way ww play, i'm not going to hold my breath but IF he does, happy days all round.

{Ed002's Note - Willie Wonker?}

2.) 20 Aug 2018 21:00:57
The way "we" play. Thank you Ed, damn my sausage fingers.

{Ed002's Note - I prefer Willie Wonker Steve. And I still have a slight fear it will turn out that way.}

3.) 21 Aug 2018 17:26:40
The problem is that we have very few players that would be capable of getting into the squads of the top four teams:
None of our keepers
None of our defenders: I would have said Bellerin, but he has been poor for a long while.
Midfield: Torreira, Guendouzi, perhaps Ramsey although I'm not convinced
Attack: Aubameyang and perhaps Lacazette.
Not a single player of ours would get anywhere near a Premier League best eleven. This shows the magnitude of the job Emery has.

4.) 21 Aug 2018 18:59:19
RG, i think the truth is wenger left a squad of players where probably only 4 or 5 are actually top four potential everyday performers, the rest are either not good enough or just too inconsistent.

5.) 21 Aug 2018 21:59:42
I think it's a case of working out what can be salvaged from what Dick inherited and then adding to that over the next two windows to form an 11 to 15 man reliable squad for next season bolstered by the best of the rest Steve mate.
It won't happen over night:-)

6.) 22 Aug 2018 09:22:21
It shouldn't be a case of our individuals getting into a pl eleven. We need to work as a team first as that is the most important thing. That may mean some bigger names not playing week in week out. Look at Leicester, Wales and Iceland in the euros. Its a team attitude that wins titles.

7.) 22 Aug 2018 13:45:57
Ahh Willy Wonker Ed002. A great right of childhood passage was to read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a brilliant book (and decent film, but only the original staring Gene Wilder not the utter trash made by Tim Burton) . With all the smut and adult like content constantly forced on children these days, what could be better than a harmless family story about a strange hermit like man who either chooses to lock himself in a factory with only a workforce of child like people for company, or who when he does finally emerge into the world only looks to befriend children. Now that's more like it, good harmless family fun.!

8.) 22 Aug 2018 20:30:18
EG, i would be very wary of anyone with a name like Willie Wonker, especially around children.

9.) 25 Aug 2018 00:58:50
Late to the post on this. But I have a strong feeling Dick has a half idea who he wants to keep and who to let go. I think the ones the jury’s out on he wanted to give enough rope to hang themselves with so he can eventually bin them with no resistance.
Cech who has my sympathy, is having to re-adjust and it could prove difficult due to his age.
And the likes of Xhaka et all, were played last season even though they were dump but still have that flicker of hope that, it was the coaching, that there was room for improvement.
Hopefully Dick will be given the freedom and he has the fortitude to bin the ones he believes offer no long term benefit.
Then I think we will see the likes of Torreria and Leno.

10.) 29 Aug 2018 13:37:21
I think the thing to remember about Cech is he is still a very good keeper, and has already made some important saves for us. Also, his experience behind the dodgy defense should not be underestimated. Currently, i think this more than makes up for the lack of distribution skills and is probably why he is still being played over Leno.

10 Aug 2016 15:02:50
Ok, so i am no ITK, but i caught up with an old friend recently who knows someone who knows someone who supposedly works at Arsenal and regularly sits in on meetings with Ivan Gazidis. So the story is that Ivan and the board only have 1 actual target (forward, no mention of CB) and are expecting two things to happen that they believe will result in the target becoming available. The first is for Chelsea to re-sign Lukaku, who then will allow Costa to leave. He will go to Athletico Madrid who in turn will allow Griezman to leave, who is the true target. Personally I don't believe this is true, as even if he did become available we would only bid £12.50 and a kitkat versus Chelsea and Barcelona and Bayern all bidding £80 million, but that's what i heard anyway, and as the saying goes you pays your money and you takes your choice!

EppingGooner

1.) 10 Aug 2016 16:07:32
Stop being ridiculous.

2.) 10 Aug 2016 16:58:41
A lot of people are making the Costa to Atleti, Griezmann to us link.

Only signed a new deal this year, release is probably into the Pogba regions and I can't see them selling him for anything less than it.

I can't even see them signing Costa either, they already have Griezmann, Torres and Gameiro.

Even if they were open to letting him go, I can't see us being the only club to move for him, as you say.

That being said, I personally expect this exact rumour to pop up in the media shortly, it's almost panic season!

3.) 10 Aug 2016 17:51:04
I know someone, who knew a man who lived next to a boy who watched Arsenal last season . Apparently we have money in the bank

X.

4.) 10 Aug 2016 17:57:12
Ed i know its not going to happen but any interest from us for lewandowski?

{Ed001's Note - do you think Arsenal would be willing to break the transfer fee record? If not, why even ask?}

5.) 10 Aug 2016 18:09:17
I didn't know it will be that much, i thought it would be around 60 million.

{Ed001's Note - why would they let the best centre forward in the world go for less than Higuain when Bayern have no need or desire to sell?}

6.) 10 Aug 2016 18:28:03
Apex seriously come on now 😂.

7.) 10 Aug 2016 18:53:40
I've come to the conclusion our friend Apex is actually Arsene in disguise.

As soon as one of the Ed's confirms a player would be interested in Arsenal, in he'll swoop with the pound!

8.) 10 Aug 2016 19:56:32
I wish I lived in Apex's world.

9.) 10 Aug 2016 20:11:23
Who knows Wenger maybe mad enough to do it.

10.) 10 Aug 2016 23:48:21
Some info regarding griezmann on the european page if anyones interested.

11.) 11 Aug 2016 09:48:29
looks like the offer for mahrez if lequipe are to be taken seriously is 41 mill and 9 mill in bonus, they quote in euros, so not sure if true as most transfers within this country would be in pounds.

guess that would be a lot of money to make for leicester and a massive profit, but i guess with every team flush with cash no need to sell.

12.) 11 Aug 2016 11:44:47
Hello ed, sky sports germany are reporting that a deal between arsenal and valencia is close regarding mustafi, any truth in this at all?

13.) 11 Aug 2016 11:54:28
Just to add to my post, the agent also said that a deal is imminent which is why I'm asking.

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of. Though he is available, I am not aware of any change in the situation. Clearly the agent is trying to remind people he is for sale....}

As we have veered onto a food theme, what would you choose for your last meal? Me, I am stuck, can't decide between fish and chips, or a full roast. Probably the former, as i have to unashamedly admit I cook the best Sunday roast I have ever had, so would have to cook the roast myself! Of course if I was on death row, I would probably ask for a very slow cooked stew, preferably one that needs 300 days to cook!

EppingGooner

1.) 04 Nov 2021 07:27:37
Obviously your roast now Epping ? then pop round to ravers for his Mrs to sort me out dessert ?.

2.) 04 Nov 2021 08:00:37
Going on your last sentence Epping mate I'd have to go for giant bamboo flower curry, as giant bamboo only flower once every 130 years.
But other than that it wouid be a nice piece of brisket with roast spuds that had been part boiled before roasting, stuffing balls, Yorkshire puds and gravy made from the brisket juices.
I've not been able to eat Yorkshire puds for about 15 years as for some strange reason I suddenly became allergic to them and suffer with IBS for around 3 weeks if I eat them now days, but I'm guessing if it was my last meal that wouldn't be a problem would it.

{Ed001's Note - do you make them yourselves or buy them in? Only ones bought in will have chemicals in them that cause the allergies. Make them, they are dead easy to do mate, then you can control what goes into them and find what triggers your problem if you are still getting a reaction. It is probably the flour though as they stuff it full of artificial crap these days.}

3.) 04 Nov 2021 08:51:10
Hi Ed001 mate, when it first stated I had no idea what was causing it but after a while realised it was every time I had a carvery, initially I thought it might be something they put in the gravy but after a while I twigged it was the Yorkshire puddings doing it.
For a while I could eat the ones my missus made at home no problem but then suddenly even they did it, so I accepted me and Yorkshire puds had sadly come to the end of the road in our beautiful relationship, as 3 weeks of my stomach cramping and tieing itself in knots was just to high a price for the initial pleasure of the pud.
It's definitely the flourer doing it mate as I can eat cakes and pastry no problem but for some bizarre reason the good old Yorkshire puddings no longer love me ????.

{Ed001's Note - try organic flour with nothing added.}

4.) 04 Nov 2021 09:10:35
I will give that a go at Christmas Ed001 mate, thank you, I'll wait till then just incase as i will have a couple of weeks to get over it if it does cause a problem.
It's funny when Doctors ect ask me if I am allergic to anything and I say only Yorkshire puddings, they all respond by saying " that's an unfortunate allergy "? everyone loves a Yorkie pud????.

{Ed001's Note - hahaha fingers crossed mate.}

17 Oct 2021 16:35:57
Just as most clubs looked at our first game away to newly promoted Brentford, and thought so glad that wasn't us, I think many will be looking at today's game at Newcastle and being thankful they are not Spurs.

EppingGooner

{Ed014's Note - and 1 nil down already

1.) 17 Oct 2021 16:48:10
I think City Chelsea and Liverpool would love to be playing Newcastle today at St James, I'm pretty sure they be well up for sending eveyone at Newcastle a clear message about just how big a task they face breaking into the elite.

2.) 17 Oct 2021 20:28:46
3-2 winners and up to 5th while you boys who are having a fantastic season are nowhere to be seen, ST totteringham day will be cancelled yet again as usual.

{Ed014's Note - that day has never been cancelled yet as no matter what, you always choke something along the way! ???

3.) 17 Oct 2021 22:11:29
Spurs up in 5th place?

Only Tuchel Klopp Pep and Potter are above being summoned to the chairman's office tomorrow morning to explain themselves.

4.) 17 Oct 2021 23:35:51
Fantastic away win for Spuds against a very strong rejuvenated Newcastle who are beating all that’s before them

Great result Rav

Title contenders for sure now.

5.) 17 Oct 2021 23:51:31
ARSENAL are 13th say no more ???.

6.) 18 Oct 2021 08:43:15
Yes mate arsenal are 13th and that is awful and the only thing that makes it even worse for Arsenal United Vila Norwich and all others is that even Spurs are above them, that hits every club really hard, the embarrassment is the same for all, shocking.

7.) 18 Oct 2021 13:21:48
And 4th on Friday night - think about that Rav my boy ?.

8.) 18 Oct 2021 20:38:40
With more games played ????.

{Ed014's Note - Come on you ⚒’s ?

08 Oct 2021 20:31:56
Such a terrible time when the premiership allow a club like Newcastle to be owned by someone who is morally corrupt at best, and who would remove and destroy anyone either not following their remit or who they consider below them, at worst. Still that's enough about Mike Ashley, I wonder what the new owners will be like ?.

EppingGooner

{Ed014's Note - ??? love it Epping!

1.) 08 Oct 2021 21:43:58
I enjoyed listening to a spokesman for the Newcastle fan club last night, when he quite openly and honestly said " of course Newcastle fans are concerned as anyone about the moral issues surrounding the new owners, but while the British government continue openly to do business with them why is it up to Newcastle fans to make a stand '
" we are just so pleased to see the back of Mike Ashley after 14 long years "

Hard to argue with that in my opinion.

01 Sep 2021 11:40:21
So another transfer season has come to an end. Firstly thanks to all the Ed's for all their continued hard work and patience!

Second, and I don't want to come across negative as I think some of our signings will work out well, but ultimately we've just spent around 147 million, and yet we have no star player, or anyone who I see making an immediate impact, in fact anyone who would stop us from getting relegated, let alone back in the top 4.

Am I seeing this wrong? For me, if I was given 147 million, I would have signed Lukaku and Bissouma, and the left back we did sign if there was any spare change. Yes I know Lukaku would never come to Arsenal, but you get my point.

Two established players who would be straight in the first XI, not the squad, and who I think would make the difference to push us back up towards the top 4.

EppingGooner

{Ed014's Note - there’s always a ton of ifs what’s and maybes I guess but in Aubamayang we should have our star player.

He wasn’t going anywhere so Arteta has to ensure he gets the best from him.

We have still to see the best of Pepe and for me Lacazette.

Bissouma would have been the one and maybe that’s where the White money should have gone but White is only 23 and has improved each year so let’s not be to quick to knock him until we see him with say Gabriel.

The thought of Lokonga and Partey actually excites me and hoping they hit it off.

My only concern is Arteta getting it all together straight after the international break.

He needs to settle on a team, say Ramsdale, Tommy, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Lokonga, Partey, Saka, Odegaard, ESR and Auba and go with it for a run of at least 5 games.

1.) 01 Sep 2021 12:25:48
Yeah mad we were the biggest spenders and yet have we really improved the first 11 to take up a level, time will tell I suppose. I am staying positive that Odegaard will come good and Lokonga looks to have talent so we have improved the midfield area a little. I was not too concerned with Willock leaving think he was only ever going to be a fringe player for us. Keeping Party fit though is key to give a solid base from which to attack.

Defence is still a concern especially the RB position This Japanese player is a complete unknown and no idea if will fit in seem a bit of a last day panic job to me to replace Bellerin with anyone. Why did we not try for Trippier with a swap with Bellerin + Cash I would have be far more comfy with that. I get we were properly not a first choice over Utd. but he wanted to come back to England. White is a football playing defender good on the deck but don't think he is the type that will ever really command the box in the air for set pieces and that is a still a big weakness for us. Physically we are still liable to be builled at the back. Ramsdale maybe our future long term number 1 but we had a keeper that did command the box a lot better than Leno in Martinez but let him go, crazy move that. Just seems we have wasted a lot of money right at this moment on future potential.

Attack still has plenty of goals in it with the right service but we have to get PEA confident and firing again and play quicker on the counter. We not going to attract the really big names no more up front but do think someone like Ings would have been a decent shout. We really do miss Giroud as he offered a different option and that the type we really need to make the most of crosses that Tierney in particular sends in that gets wasted.

2.) 01 Sep 2021 13:03:33
To add if we keep our senior players in particular PEA, Partey and Odegaard fit and Arteta can get them confident and motivated consistently I think we can still get into the Europa places 6th for me is our best effort. (Piping one of Leicester or Spurs most likely although West Ham and Everton in the mix also) That would be a big achievement this season and one we would all bite your hands off for right now.

3.) 01 Sep 2021 13:38:24
You are right - to get just 20m for Emi who plays from back well and owns his 6 yard box to spend more on the lesser replacement plus have Leno is just poor.

I think the key is - can Arteta decide on his best 11, can he play to our strengths and get the best out of PEA. Big IFs but hopefully he does it.

Completely agree that there are some exciting players in the squad and potentially some great partnerships but not sure we have really improved the squad despite the huge investment.

4.) 01 Sep 2021 15:22:06
I agree with SY4 that losing Martinez was just bad business, a move that all of us condemned at the time: Leno has never convinced.

The club is fielding a lot of criticism for loaning without obligations to buy, but it was clearly a very difficult market. If these players are as good as they think they are, maybe they'll impress and we'll finally move them out next year.

Ed, do either of Mavropanos and Guendozi have options to buy for Stuttgart and Marseille?

{Ed002's Note - Mavropanos has an option and Guendozi will move unless something uplanned happens.}

5.) 01 Sep 2021 15:00:15
I like that starting XI above from Ed014 (given the squad we now have assembled)
Frankly though, any straying eleven that doesn’t have any of Leno, Xhaka, Kolasanic or Nketiah is automatically better than one which does.

6.) 01 Sep 2021 16:47:22
We will only know if we've improves the first 11 after we've seen them play together, I accept on paper these signings don't look exciting like Partey and Gabriel did last year or Pepe singing the season before did but as much as we were disappointed by that trio who knows we may turn out to be delighted by how the class of summer 2021 turn out! That's the thing about football, you never know anything until it actually happens, regardless of what you thought you knew before hand.

7.) 01 Sep 2021 17:24:52
Lets trust the process and get behind the Team

Kronke and co out as soon as possible.

{Ed014's Note - without doubt we get behind the team but Arteta hasn’t given us a lot to trust to be honest.

8.) 01 Sep 2021 17:37:27
I worry about partey watched him a lot at atletico and he was a beast… the only game I’ve seen him match that was Man U away… just hoping it’s first season blues and C.V. not helped him settle and we see the real partey when he’s back.

{Ed014's Note - think it’s safe to say we all do Wilfred

25 Aug 2021 22:18:13
The job done box has been thoroughly ticked.

1.) 25 Aug 2021 22:43:58
Ultimately you can't control the teams you face or the players they pick, you can only control what you do.

It was just the game and result the team needed and we did all that needed doing, imagine going into the weekends game having sneaked through tonight on penalties or by the odd goal?
Tonight can have done no harm.

Why would they take a pay cut. I am sure they would leave, but only on loan to a club that will only take them if they can pay part of their salary and we pay the rest, which I think is what we did with Ozil. Otherwise if I was PEA, I would sit in the reserves building up my massive pension pot care of AFC.

Ramsdale is a bit young for me. Goalkeepers mature later and so you can afford to pick up someone older than you would for another position. However, he appears to be a good keeper, and if it works he could be our keeper for the next decade or more, so you can see the attraction. Would definitely prefer him than this drug ban fellow, too much baggage we could do without.

It’s a sad situation but when you need to raise funds you end up having to sell the China whilst keeping hold of the chipped cups. Willock is being sold purely because he can raise 20m, whereas Xhaka, Torreira, Elneny and many others can’t.

The difference between the two is that we only paid about 5m for Elneny, so not being worth with is not a shock. Xhaka on the other hand is about the worst devaluation you could get. I have kept cars that held better value than him.

Depends on the liver G62. Probably best to use lambs liver for liver and onions/ bacon. You can cook that for an hour or more, so plenty of time to get the sauce nice and dark. Calves liver is better liver, but for quick cooking only, it will turn to mush if you slow cook ( and is better pink) . Leave pigs liver in the shop, unless you fancy knocking up some faggots.

Good shout on the Chicken Kiev. Properly done they are fantastic. Recently realised that you take off the small fillet from the breast, lightly flatten it, and then use as the cork to seal the slit on the inside before you breadcrumb. All that lovely garlic butter then stays sealed on the inside until you cut it open.
