Hi Ed, lots of outlets saying arsenal will sign Gabriel Magalhães. You previously said we need to sell before we buy, is this still the case or could he be signing?

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal have at least 8 first team centre backs already - two are new this year, one has returned from inury and one has just been given a new contract. The club are is a really serious financial mess and right now three players from Kia are being pushed in via Edu. The club is a complete shambles. One assumes the "lots of outlets" have recearched and proven this story - so I am not the one to ask I am afraid. It is tiresome answering the same things over and over.}

1.) 04 Aug 2020 18:06:19
Sorry Ed.

2.) 05 Aug 2020 10:58:12
The media outlets all feed off each others click bait now days DG mate, they've even become to lazy to invent their own fantasy headlines.
If you want to know what's really happening you have to be patient and wait for trusted sources to tell you what they KNOW! Of course for those who simply can't wait for reality to happen there are lots and lots of outlets ready to feed your desire for false news being better than no news and it's available 24/ 7 too :-)

04 Aug 2020 08:11:17
Hi Ed, do you expect arsenal to sign Willian? And if he does sign, does it spell the end for Reis Nelson?

{Ed002's Note - There is every chance that Kia will get the three year deal for a 32 that Willian wants but Chelsea won't give him.}

1.) 04 Aug 2020 11:08:39
Ed, I’m sure you are aware, arsenal supporters always voice their anger at the owner (Stan Kroenke) . You previously said that the structure has nothing to do with the owner with edu and other senior management creating a mess with responsibilities, which ultimately led to Sven Mislintat leaving the club. I must say when I hear that Chelsea are getting Havertz, United getting Sancho, I must admit I am jealous. Are those who can change the structure even trying to change it? And if the structure was correct, what does that ultimately change within the club? Is it transfers and targets? Vision? Thanks. sorry for the long message.

{Ed002's Note - It needs someone to come in from outside. Last summer was a financial disaster when the club committed money put aside fro not being in Europe. It is a complete shambles and it is getting worse with Kia doing what he is doing. Does giving a three year contract to someone who will be 32 this coming weekend make sense. Does £24M for the one year deal for DL make sense. Does vastly overpaying for Pepe make sense?}

2.) 04 Aug 2020 11:22:20
But why? Just because Kia says 3 years why do Arsenal feel the need to say yes to that? I just don't understand why they would accept something that is blatantly ridiculous without good reason. It's madness.

{Ed002's Note - Because Willian is not an option to Arsenal otherwise.}

3.) 04 Aug 2020 14:37:27
I know it’s all stupid Ed, it’s just annoying when your saying it and they aren’t planning on fixing it. Makes everything seem hopeless.

4.) 04 Aug 2020 14:58:10
Exactly, so then you move on. Or do they not realise that you can actually walk away if someone doesn't accept your terms? I appreciate that matters involving Arsenal and transfers in general are way more complicated than any of us will understand but it doesn't take a genius to understand when something is bad for business. Sorry Ed, it's just frustrating.

21 Jul 2020 17:23:10
Ed do you expect Upamecano to leave this summer and if so which clubs do you expect to hold an interest?

{Ed002's Note - Dayot Upamecano (CB) has been looked at by Bayern Munich as a Jerome Boateng replacement but they had another preferred plan - now that situation has changed with Bayern having recruited a young CB rather than an experienced player, so interest could return - with RBL already having a replacement in their sights. Barcelona have DU on a long list of CBs primarily because he is more affordable than others as he only has a year left on his contract - but they are fearful of making another Umtiti or Mina type error. Milan asked about a price but they have financially more viable options in what are tough times for them but may still try to gift DU to their new coach. Real Madrid enquired after him when discussing Werner with RBL, but they have preferred options so he will be down the list a bit and have already deferred their two primary purchases to next summer so spending will likely be constrained. It is hard to see CB as a priority for the summer for Manchester United this summer unless they can sell players on. Other interest from England from the likes of Manchester City exists but is not being pressed due to other priorities and preferred options. Arsenal have already recruited two new CBs for the summer, have one returning from injury and another given a new contract and are still massively overstocked at CB.}

1.) 22 Jul 2020 14:13:38
Could I trouble you for any information you might have on Jack Grealish with regards to what clubs may be interested in signing him and also if you might know of any sides he may favour?
I know the second ask is a stretch as your not privy to personal info it’s just he has spoken highly of Arsenal and the stadium in recent times. Of course this is not evidence of any preference for Arsenal but it is a little more than is ordinarily shared by players and a little random as he was not prompted to say either.
I’m not one of those that puts 2+2 together to make 5 it’s just I feel this guy will be a game changer for whoever he signs for and if it’s spurs or utd we will be at a loss because we are badly in need of his style of play.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United. Previously Spurs but they won't have the money.}

2.) 22 Jul 2020 16:25:51
Thanks Ed.
He will bring a lot to Man Utd with how he runs between the lines and carries ball forward.

{Ed047's Note - you should ask ed01what he thinks of Grealish mate. 🤣

3.) 22 Jul 2020 18:42:13
Ha ha Ed047,

I think I remember reading that he thought he was seriously over rated. and at the time I would get have argued.

But looking at what we have and what we lack he fits the bill as we don’t have any players, Tierney aside, who look to run at or past an opponent to allow opposition to fall out if their shape. Everybody wants it to feet and we inevitably have to play 10 inch perfect passes in order to get even a shot off.

If Pepe would ever just stay going in the same direction the first move he makes instead of confusing his upper body with his lower we might have someone who takes people on but more often than not he checks inside or backways.

We need a player who stretches teams with the ball and runs into space from midfield to receive a pass.

We do not have that and I think he showed last night what his attributes are and I think he will bring the best out of other attackers at Utd by being selfless and doing the dirty stuff we don’t acknowledge.

It has to be Countinho now for us. I’m hoping at least.

{Ed047's Note - someone suggested Liverpool buy Grealish and ed01’s head exploded! 🤯 and I best say nothing as I’m not a fan of either! 🤦‍♂️🤣

You’re right about Pepe though, not sure he’s looked like a £7 million player let alone £70 million.

I really don’t know who the answer is Shambles, someone we can’t afford that’s a certainty.

4.) 22 Jul 2020 20:34:31
I'm not a Greaslish fan either so wouldn't lose any sleep over him going elsewhere, regards Pepe he has to turn it on next season or we have to cut out losses and get back what we can while we can, can't afford to wait 5 years hoping on yet another player to come good.
If we have made a mistake then so be it get back what we can next summer while we can.

5.) 23 Jul 2020 11:41:28
I like watching Grealish a lot. I don't know whether he'd fit in at Arsenal or whether he's a top class player, but he is entertaining and to his credit he always wants the ball, never hides.

Now that Villa look to be safe, I think Watford might be picked apart. Eds, do you know if any clubs are interested in the likes of Deulofeu, Capoue, Sarr, Pereyra etc? All good players on their day, seems like they could go for bargain prices.

18 Jul 2020 15:21:27
Hi Ed, any idea if arsenal are interested in a Portuguese winger called Joelson Fernandes, plays for sporting Lisbon.

{Ed002's Note - Joelson Fernandes (LW/F/RW) another possible Jadon Sancho replacement that has been considered by Borussia Dortmund but they were not impressed by the non-negotiable €45M cash release clause or Sporting saying that they are discussing a new contract with his "agent" which will see the release clause double. There is a potential legal issue if his agent deals directly with any other clubs because of his age, but approaches have been made to Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea but none are keen on such a huge investment for someone who has had only a tiny amount of experience at first team level. If Arsenal are willing to spend that amount on a player who would certainly be behind Bukayo Saka for a while it would be a bold move and a giant hint that Kia Joorabchian has really got a hold on Edu and Arsenal.}

1.) 18 Jul 2020 15:55:13
Thanks Ed, I’m assuming it’s not going to happen because we can only sell to buy and not many sides are interested in our players right?

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal are going to be selling and some money will be available to make changes.}

2.) 18 Jul 2020 16:03:25
Thanks Ed. A bit of a weird question which I wanted to ask you. Is Arteta trying to put pressure on those which have budgetary responsibility? He’s been making some comments such as saying he doesn’t know how much money will be available to him. unless I’m reading too much into it.

{Ed002's Note - I would not think so - he knows the problem that exists and knows the club will need to be looking to sell players to contribute towards buying players - but there will be huge looses this year and the reserves were used up because of stupidity last summer.}

3.) 18 Jul 2020 21:49:56
Thanks Ed!

4.) 19 Jul 2020 12:24:19
It’s going to be very interesting to see who Arteta considers to be part of his plans and who he’s open to selling.
When you look at his approach since his arrival, how the players have responded and how he speaks about the players you’d be forgiven for thinking we actually might not be very active in the transfer market.
If we get Ozil off our wage bill we can give Auba the contract he deserves, to me he speaks and acts like a player who’s identified he’s at the right club for him, that’s not to say Madrid or Barcelona wouldn’t be but I think it would take one of those 2 to lure him or a lucrative offer from City which wouldn’t surprise me at all.
I can see us releasing Ozil, selling Guendouzi, Socratis, Kolasinac and Torreira, loaning Holding and maybe Nelson.
If we keep everyone else and add Ceballos, Partey and I’m going to say Coutinho even tho it’s a long shot I think we’ve addressed two key areas and would be in a much better spot to seriously contest CL qualification next season.
You’ve a strong squad with cover in each position
Leno/ Martinez
Bellerin/ Cedric/ M Niles
Saliba/ Chambers/ Luiz/ Mustafi
Tierney/ Saka/ M Niles
Xhaka/ Ceballos/ Partey/ Willock/ M Niles
RWF Pepe/ Saka/
LWF Auba/ Saka/ Martinelli
Num 10 Courtinho/ Smith Rowe
ST Lacca/ Auba/ Eddie
For me that’s a squad that can compete under Arteta. if he’s ruthless and has other players in mind I’ll be all the more excited but I would be more than happy with a transfer window of Ceballos, Partey and Coutinho (if the terms were right) .
Ed do you have any insight into realistic players of interest to Arteta.

{Ed002's Note - I will be providing an update in a few days.}

5.) 19 Jul 2020 12:59:35
Great stuff Ed, look forward to it.

03 Jul 2020 15:42:42
Hi Ed do arsenal hold an interest in Dominik Szoboszlai?

{Ed002's Note - Dominik Szoboszlai (LM/CM) Ralf Rangnick will look to take him to Milan but RBS will not be happy, Milan has serious financial issues and the club may not be as keen as the new coach who will be given a budget using funds from pre-agreed sales and will have to generate the rest through further sales - so it is a case of prioritising. Szoboszlai is the first choice Sergej Milinkovic-Savic replacement for Lazio since the summer of 2019. Lazio have informed RBS of their interest and at the right price RBS could take the money. Inter have spoken with RBS but have other priorities and will step away. Juventus interest dates back before Sarri took over as coach and Arsenal interest was from a scout the club fired and a previous coach. Chelsea were interested when he was younger but could not offer him regular game time now. The likes of Dortmund and Fiorentina have scouted him but it has gone no further just yet.}

1.) 04 Jul 2020 13:35:13
Thank you Ed, I’m not sure if anyone has asked but why did we buy Cedric? Was he a replacement for Bellerin or Maitlan-Niles?

{Ed002's Note - I don't know. Hector Bellerin (RB) Sevilla are looking for support and eventual replacement of the aging Jesus Navas and Bellerin is their first choice.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (RB/RM/DM) may be dependent on whether Arsenal take up their option on Cedric Soares - it would be a kick in the gonads for the kid and he may have to think about other options. The complexity is that he wants to play CM but the club do not see him as good enough to play there.

2.) 04 Jul 2020 14:55:17
Thanks ed. Cedric might be a good purchase and more of a replacement for Bellerin it seems but I may be wrong.

{Ed002's Note - I am not convinced.}

Hi all, the Anelka documentary is worth a watch, very interesting! Just wanted to know what you thought of him Ed001? Attitude and attributes wise?

{Ed001's Note - he was a really nice bloke who worked hard on his game from what I saw of him at Liverpool. A bit on the quiet and shy side away from the pitch but he would come alive when football talk started. He was genuinely interested in tactics and how to get the most from players. That is where he had problems. He would ask questions constantly and suggest things in team talks. While that was fine most of the time with Wenger, once he moved on he was dealing with managers who just wanted players to shut up and do as they were told. The likes of Houllier saw it as an affront to be questioned and so they were constantly on his case. Fantastic talent wasted and not entirely through his own fault but due to tyrannical managers who did not understand him. It is such a shame as he could have been one of the greats of the game.}

1.) 09 Aug 2020 08:20:32
Interesting Ed001 a different picture to Le Sulk image generally portrayed. He was lethal for us and the £23 mill we got for him helped build invincibles . Quick question if you don’t mind what is your opinion of coutinho and would he suit the Arsenal? Thanks COYG.

{Ed001's Note - he was far from sulky in my experience, one of the nicer footballers I have known. Always willing to take time to chat with fans and sign stuff. Was the beginning of the end when Houllier never signed him after his loan with Liverpool.

I am not convinced Coutinho is the right kind of player to suit Arsenal, though he can put in the graft and press he very rarely bothers. He is the kind of player that would suit someone like Palace, where the defence do not need his help and he can stay up and be the focal point of everything. Then it would not matter so much that most of the time he will run into a blind alley or just smash it over from 40 yards but occasionally get it right and put it top bin or play someone else. Honestly he is nowhere near as good as highlights make him look and, as I said many times before Liverpool sold him, the team is better without him. He tries to do too much.}

2.) 09 Aug 2020 10:17:22
Thanks appreciate opinion on both Anelka and Coutinho. Sounds like Coutinho could be a passenger and we already have a very talented one not being used so sounds like coutinho won’t fit the new style . Cebaillos who I think you don’t rate might be our option. Sign of the times when runners with some skill being preferred to gifted players. COYG.

{Ed001's Note - you need better than Ceballos or Coutinho unless you want to stay in mid-table, imo.}

3.) 09 Aug 2020 10:57:33
I agree with your assessment of Courtinho Ed001, fans will love him on occasions but question him more often than not, we have had and still have far to many of those players at Arsenal for far to long already.

{Ed001's Note - he is a very frustrating player, capable of a moment of brilliance but usually it is followed by him running into a wall of defenders or smashing it high into the stand.}

4.) 09 Aug 2020 11:26:11
Puts me in mind of Aaron Ramsey and all his flicks that were spectacular when they came off but so frustrating more often than not.

{Ed001's Note - it is even more frustrating as you can always see a simple pass or lay-off that would create a chance but they try the fancy flick instead!}

5.) 09 Aug 2020 12:26:07
Absolutely mate, give me 11 dependable good players over 11 occasionally spectacular outstanding players anytime.
Of course if you can get players who are capable of being outstanding at times while always dependable then you're in business.

6.) 09 Aug 2020 12:50:27
Would we have Henry is annelka had stayed with us?

7.) 09 Aug 2020 13:56:00
Good question Mark! But if Anelka had stayed and flourished would he now have a statue and Henry always have been a struggling winger?
Apparently David Jason was 3rd choice to play Del Boy, I wonder if we'd have all fell in love with Del no matter who of the 3 played the part?
It's a funny old business this life thing but somehow it all seems to all work ok in the end :-)

8.) 09 Aug 2020 15:21:27
Pretty good documentary / it’s no last dance but a nice insight into a young misinterpreted talented individual. You can see how much Wenger admired him and how your surroundings growing up can impact how you are read later in life.

I was a huge Anelka fan and so sorry to see him leave. Could he have been better than Henry? I always wish he’d stayed but the fear of never having Henry and Henry’s persona around the club. Henry was more than just a player. Glad it turned out this was for us but I do wish he’d stayed a little longer.

Really interesting that he didn’t drive his kids towards football, wanted to be left alone, happy to throw his Euro medal away and really isn’t a huge advocate for the game

Glad I watched it and reminded of some of his goals and moments for us.

Guess back then in the Etonian era we were still a bit naughty stealing him from France.

9.) 09 Aug 2020 16:25:09
Some ex players really ate happy to get away from the game and give their medals away. I'm not sure if it was Mark Lawrenson or Alan Hanson who said they didn't miss thier playing careers one bit.
I think us fans have a rose coloured view of life as a footballer especially given the wages involved now days but I'm sure the reality isn't quite what we imagine it 365 days a year for around 15 to 20 years.

10.) 09 Aug 2020 18:06:59
Absolutely Gunner, can't be easy being judged on every little mistake. I'm not sure many non-players would have thick enough skins to cope with it. I think Mr Wenger understood the sensitive players and they reacted accordingly. It was certainly true for Mesut I think. Sad to think players end up not in love with the game .

11.) 09 Aug 2020 18:46:35
Absolutely Sally, It's easy on the outside looking in to be taken in by the glamorous side that obviously is there but imagine never spending Christmas day with your kids when they are young and having to watch what you eat, drink, say and do 10 months of the year. Obviously it's a choice and they get to retire in there 30s wealthy young men but it's not roses all the way and I can see why some are happy to see the back of it once they're playing days are over.

12.) 09 Aug 2020 18:36:32
Can imagine a TV camera following you 24/ 7 at work evaluating every decision and outcome. A panel of experts holding you more accountable and to a standard they never achieved. I was reading yesterday in the Times how the great German side who won the world cup have coped since. We mocked Per for stating he was sick before every game. I sure one of the fullbacks retired before 30 from that side due to pressure. Then you have the social networking sites slating you - a coach was telling me they encourage young players to not have social networking sites as the abuse of even a good game can be soul destroying so when you are in the dumps following a run of bad games - are you really ready for the abuse on line. On top of that the jealousy due to wages causing abuse due to sexual orientation, race, weight, appearance or simply a mistake you made on the pitch. yes they get loads of money but I bet it’s one of the toughest jobs with very few earning top top dollar. I am sure a number of ex-pros are suffering from heading the ball in the olden days etc etc and have to have a job to be financially secure. 100% sure even a player as young as Andy Linighan got a job running a plumbing company after he retired. He was playing well into the 90s so not that long ago.

Far harder than we think.

03 Aug 2020 10:27:38
Hi ed001, just wondering whether you think arsenal should renew Aubameyang' a contract (taking into consideration all the costs) or whether our rebuilding should continue without him?

{Ed001's Note - no, his attitude is not that of a team player and he wants too much money. It just makes no sense to me, especially right now.}

1.) 03 Aug 2020 10:43:52
But Ed, knowing that arsenal are a mess, especially when it comes to transfers, would you not see it as an unnecessary risk because we won’t replace him properly?

{Ed001's Note - no because his attitude is a problem. You finished in mid-table mediocrity in part because managers are keeping him happy, rather than concentrating on getting the best out of the team at hand. You need to get rid of big-time Charlies like him if you are going to progress. He is not half the player Henry or Bergkamp was, but he is ten times as difficult to manage. He is not even your best striker. You already have Lacazette and Nketiah coming through, you don't really need to replace him on the left as Saka is there. I just don't see why anyone is bothered about getting rid of a player that is a passenger for 85 minutes of every game.}

2.) 03 Aug 2020 11:29:45
Sorry Ed but to say he isn't our best striker is ridiculous.

{Ed001's Note - no it's not. Best goalscorer, yes, best striker, no. That is why he doesn't even play a striker role but as a wide forward a large amount of the time. So not sure why you think it is ridiculous when he is not even first choice striker?}

3.) 03 Aug 2020 11:32:22
Would you think taking a pretty low fee for him now or letting him run his contract down would be a
better option Ed001? My own feeling is his commitment wouldn't be the best if the latter option is taken. I must admit I fear another Ozil situation even though I love Auba.

{Ed001's Note - you sell players like that. High wages like he and Ozil are on cause discontent amongst teammates that are earning much less, especially in times like this when people are being told money is scarce. He is not a good person to have in the dressing room, he caused a lot of issues at Dortmund and required a lot of management there, that is not something a new manager like Arteta needs while rebuilding a side. Klopp struggled to cope with him and man-management is his main skill, so why keep a problem like that for someone who is learning their trade?}

4.) 03 Aug 2020 11:51:44
All our other forwards are awful. Maybe he isn't a great no9 but not as though we're stacked with greater cfs.

{Ed001's Note - awful? You really are clueless. Lacazette is an excellent player and Nketiah has huge potential.}

5.) 03 Aug 2020 11:52:23
end of day his goals win us games and won us the fa cup. Maybe he goes missing in games but he scores goals.

{Ed001's Note - and yet you finished mid-table with his goals. Perhaps if you got better all-round players instead of greedy, self-interested players like him, then you might be challenging higher up the table.}

6.) 03 Aug 2020 11:57:45
The why is easy Ed001 mate fans popularity. If Arteta publicly let it be known he decided to cash in on Auba rather than pay over the odds and things didn't go well without him the backlash would be enormous, but if he publicly states his desire to keep Auba at all costs and Auba goes anyway then big bad Stan gets the blame if we struggle next season and Arteta gets time understanding and sympathy from the fans.

{Ed001's Note - oh yeah I get why Arteta is saying what he is, but I don't get why the club did not get rid of him last summer when he refused to sign a new deal. Once the contract falls below 2 years long their value drops quickly and they become more and more difficult to get any kind of return on. Add that to the problems it causes within the club when other players see someone not keen on extending, it makes them wonder why. It makes negotiations even more difficult with other players too. No matter how good or important a player is, you can't let them hold the club to ransom. That was one of the causes of United's decline, players like Rooney were doing it and it kept them from being able to sort out other issues in the squad.}

7.) 03 Aug 2020 12:10:19
yeah we finished midtable. Mainly thanks to him. We wouldn't of won the fa cup without simple as that.

8.) 03 Aug 2020 12:11:24
Thanks Ed. I know your not an arsenal guy so might not have much knowledge on the issue but do you see him staying?

{Ed001's Note - from his past record I expect him to leave to be honest.}

9.) 03 Aug 2020 12:21:45
I 100% agree Ed001, one rule for everyone and absolutely no one is bigger or more important than the club
For years we had players running down thier contracts and holding the club to ransom where we either gave them ott wages or they left for free.
The two year extend or off you go rule was obviously needed and was the right thing to do and of course should apply to everyone equally, even including Dominic Cummings :-) .

{Ed001's Note - well obviously it only applies unless the person in question needs to check their eye sight, in which case they should be sold to Barnard Castle FC.}

10.) 03 Aug 2020 12:52:26
Have to agree with Ed, you need to watch Lacazette for the whole game to appreciate his work ethic and quality

I’d sell pea and buy a midfier like partey.

{Ed001's Note - is that a first? You agreeing with me. Must be the end of the world!!}

11.) 03 Aug 2020 12:59:08
I’m drunk ed.

{Ed001's Note - aren't you always?}

12.) 03 Aug 2020 13:01:32
I'll be annoying and both agree and disagree. Absolutely agree that it's terrible club management that we keep letting these players run down to the final year when their bargaining power is huge and the sell-on fee is massive. We should have sold him as soon as that happened. That Kroenke continues to tolerate this amazingly poor executive management style brings me to despair.

And yet, since he is here, he scores an absurd amount of goals and keeps the opposing backline guessing with his pace. He's absolutely the best goalscorer we have had in yonks and my view is that the rumours about him being difficult to manage or a negative presence have yet to be substantiated. Yes he likes a flash car, but I don't hold it against him.

{Ed001's Note - it is not a rumour, that has come direct from Klopp's mouth and others that he is difficult. It is never been a rumour, it was said directly by people who have dealt with him.}

13.) 03 Aug 2020 13:06:56
Hey Ed001. An interesting debate to say the least.
Can i just ask, what about Auba suggests that his attitude is as bad as people make out? From what I see and read as a fan, there isn't a person in the club and certainly within the team that doesn't have a brilliant bond with Auba and appreciate having a player of his quality at the club.
Arteta has been very vocal and made it clear that anyone who doesn't show the right level of desire and commitment to the team, the club and themselves on and off the pitch, does not have a future at the club. This is evident with the removal of Guendouzi and Ozil from the picture so why wouldn't he do the same with Aubameyang if his attitude is so bad? Guendouzi and Ozil haven't really offered much on the pitch so I appreciate it's easier to do it with them, especially when we needed to secure EL football and the FA cup so you can't just drop Auba's goals from the performances because they were vital for us.
Scoring 54 goals in 85 Premier League appearances mainly from the LW is a fantastic record that I don't think we can just get rid of without suitably replacing. Yes we can strengthen elsewhere and utilise Laca and Nketiah in the no.9 role but why not stick Auba through the middle who guarantees you goals, and let Laca move on to fund a potential transfer in Partey who would bring us much needed stability in the midfield? I love Laca and Auba tbh and wouldn't want either of them to leave but every team needs a player who will score 20+ goals and season and Auba delivers that.
On the other hand, I certainly do not want a player at the club who thinks he's above everyone else and the club so if that's his game then yeah, he has to go.

{Ed001's Note - what about Auba? The fact that anyone who has had to work with him in Germany has said so is what suggests it. I really couldn't care less about flash cars etc, that is not an issue to me, just like Pogba getting his hair cut or dancing around on social media I don't see as an issue. The fact he hasn't signed a new deal is also an indicator that he is not the easiest to deal with.}

14.) 03 Aug 2020 13:31:08
Malagasy plenty players do that throughout the league. i'm not saying lacazette is important to us but to label him as quality I mean come on. Can you really see us getting top 4 with him as cf without abau on the left just isn't happening. Abau fills in the void of our strikers not scoring many goals.

15.) 03 Aug 2020 13:46:54
I haven't been able to find any evidence of coaches saying he was difficult ed001, are you sure? It was the Dortmund CEO and some of the German media certainly, but I can't see anything but praise from Klopp.

{Ed047's Note - I’m of the same thinking Wire, never has he been in the press over here for any wrong doing.

He didn’t breach lockdown or make headlines for any disruption, it’s clear all the players love him as does Arteta. He always has a huge smile on his face in training and just looks to love life.

Add to that he’s scored more goals than any Liverpool striker, any City striker, any Spurs striker, any Chelsea striker and any United striker and he plays on the left.

What’s not to like 🤷‍♂️

16.) 03 Aug 2020 14:17:50
I agree that iv'e heard the same issues about him but that was all back in Germany. I remember Ed002 mentioning his discipline and attitude before we signed him from Dortmund but that's very much been left in Germany as far as I can see. At the end of the day he was brought in to the club to score goals. Too often were we reliant on players like Sanchez chucking in 20+ goals or Ramsey putting in a good tally from CM to bolster our lack in goals coming from the striker. Granted, Auba has been playing on the left too but that's because it's been hard to fit him and Laca in the team without disrupting formation too much. That doesn't make him a winger, he's a striker and a blimmin good one at that.

{Ed001's Note - so you want to swap relying on one player for relying on a different player? You make little sense and seem to believe the fantasy that all is well at Arsenal with a player that refuses point blank to sign a new contract.}

17.) 03 Aug 2020 14:45:02
Oh believe me Ed, I don't think for a minute that things are rosy at Arsenal because they aren't. The club are in a mess and we've all been told that many times. All i'm saying is that Arsenal have needed a 20+ goal a season striker for years and now they have one who's proven his worth, he should be sold because he had a bad attitude in the past? Like others have stated, the players, the managers (Arteta and Emery) and the club have had nothing but good things to say about his performances, his attitude on and off the pitch and his desire to excel in training.

{Ed001's Note - no he should be sold because he won't sign a contract and doesn't play for the team.}

18.) 03 Aug 2020 15:11:58
I think he was suspended twice by Dortmound over his attitude problems and his attitude is the reason none of the usual big spenders like City Barcelona Real wanted to sign him despite his prolific goal scoring record and why we were lucky enough to be able to get him in the first place.
I was skeptical about his attitude before he arrived but have to say I've never heard a bad thing about him since he's been at Arsenal.
He is a fantastic goal scorer and I hope he stays but if the going rate for a goalscorer of his nature is 150k a week we shouldn't give him 150k and 1p to stay, the 2 year rule shouldn't have been breached for Auba last summer, the same rules should apply to Auba as to Mainland Niles Guendozi or Mustafi. Once a player feels they are above the clubs rules you've either got a problem with him or with his team mates resenting his preferential treatment.

19.) 03 Aug 2020 17:15:00
All need to get a grip. This isn't pogba. This is someone who scores week in week out.

20.) 03 Aug 2020 17:56:39
Good point Olber, give him anything he wants, twice with sugar on it :-) .
I think you might want to step out of that tunnel and have take another look yourself mate, he's a fantastic
Goal scorer but he's not exactly got Real Barcelona City or Liverpool bashing our door down has he? Ever stopped to ask why?

21.) 03 Aug 2020 19:22:49
I think the truth is, he looks very good in this Arsenal team, but in the invincible team, would be a bench warmer. I agree with Ed that Lacca offers more in the forward role, in that he holds the ball up better and brings other players in. My Only issue though is that he then misses a golden chance which Auba would have taken. We also have to get Martinelli, Saka and Nkhetia closer to the first 11, otherwise they will quickly be tempted elsewhere. This doesn’t happen so easily when you have both Lacca and Auba in the squad. So I still think one needs to be sold to raise funds so we can go get the best possible Central midfielder we can afford.

22.) 03 Aug 2020 20:01:51
Auba is a class player, an out and out goalscorer. Our best striker, our best player, we would be in the bottom half of the table without him. He doesn't do as much work as Lacca, but he scores twice as many goals. He's not caused one bit of trouble since he joined the Arsenal. All the Arsenal players and most fans seem to love him. I for one rate him up alongside Henry, Wright as our greatest goal scores. Arteta is right to do everything in his power to keep him at our club. For me he's the best striker, goalscorer in the Premier League.

{Ed047's Note - he’s done nothing to concern me Rocky, unlike Pogba at United who wants out and Salah at Liverpool whose said the same.

23.) 03 Aug 2020 20:16:45
If we had 10 abaus we would win the league. If he doesn't want to sign fair enough. But I've watched every arsenal game since he has played and i'm not going to criticise him on the field because he's by far our most important player.

24.) 03 Aug 2020 20:53:17
I agree he's not caused the problems at Arsenal he became famous for are Dortmound and I agree he's an excellent goal scorer and I definitely think he's the player we would fund it impossible to replace on a like to like basis. But I don't belive the club should break our 2 year extend or leave policy to keep him or anyone else leaving us exposed to being held to ransom as far to many players have done in the past. The policy should apply to everyone equally, Auba is good but he really isn't in Dominic Cummings category and neither should any player ever be at Arsenal again in my opinion, letting players use the club the way they have in the past was a bad mistake and the only thing worse than making a bad mistake is repeating it. Make him a fair offer and let him make his decision to take it or leave.

25.) 03 Aug 2020 20:58:34
Hey fellow, yeah I agree with Ed01 he should be sold. He’s a natural goal scorer yes but still don’t give enough and no sign of a real captain. Lacazette shows more interaction even when he’s not wearing the armband.

Call me cynical but it doesn’t look to me like he accidentally dropped the FA cup! When he wanted out of Dortmund he spoke openly against them then refused to be play or be apart of the team, if I remembered correctly.

It could be the reason witH Ozil as well why he’s not playing, because of their work rate. I said sometime back that both of them and I think Guendozi shouldn’t play together. All the good teams now are pressing and running back continuously from the front. And if you can do that take your chances and convert you’ll most likely always more goals than the opponent with at least two solid CB and keeper.

26.) 03 Aug 2020 21:10:42
It seems Auba now has a contract on the table so let's see if he signs or waits for other offers. It looks like he may be requesting certain players be signed. I hope he really loves Arsenal and comes good for the right reasons.

27.) 03 Aug 2020 20:38:20
I'd stick up for you lads being told you're clueless, but the last time I stuck up for someone, I was banned from chat. Still am actually. Ah bugger it, here goes.

Simple maths:
Player scoring loads of goals = good
Player not scoring goals = bad
You don't win football games without goals.

That's how football works. I'm shocked anyone had to say this to you.

{Ed033's Note - i didn't know you were banned, Sharpie, i unbanned you.

28.) 03 Aug 2020 21:44:50
If you isolate the situation and reduce it plainly to Auba deserving an improved contract based on his goals then there is an argument that he should be rewarded.
But that’s not realistic and there’s far more to be considered, most of which Ed001 has expressed.

Firstly, what message does it continue to send to the young players at the club? Do you remember Theo Walcott got a £120,000 per week contract as this cat and mouse culture of holding the club to ransom started to become a trend? Think about this, Walcott and his reps manoeuvred him to a place where he earned those wages. Somebody try justify that, you’d be hard pressed.

Play well while the contacts in the balance, coast once its been renewed. Meanwhile team mates are watching and replicating it and morale suffers and performance levels lower. Walcott never performed as well as the season he was playing for that contract, when he got it he reverted back to his passive carefree self.
Older, you probably made the same argument for Van Persie who’s goals carried us in his final 2 years. yet he opted to move and we survived.

At what point do we dig our heels in and say no to this game playing by unseen representatives and ensure that proper contract renewals based on actual performance levels (that would see us grow as a club again) are prioritised? At this rate if we keep going there is the potential to pay a Saka or Smith Rose 500,000 per week by the time they reach their prime because that’s the trend or standard at the club.

Auba would be at Chelsea since last season if they’d met his wage demands. This is a fact and very telling.
Don’t be fooled by instagram exchanges or social media posts it’s all part of the process to get as many fans onside to give even more leverage in negotiations.
We need 25 players with Emi Martinez’s / Tierneys humility and loyalty and Martinelli’s drive. No lip service.

Auba is no Bergkamp or Wright, don’t get it twisted, great goal scorer he may be but he will move as quick as stay.
I say we prioritise the process and Arteta and move out all of those who aren’t on board and once that’s done you’ll see improved league results.

We finished 8th with Auba and we can do better even if he chooses to go. Edouard clearly is also showing promise at his age of being a talented goal scorer and there’s plenty of them out there the football world is a big place let’s not put all out eggs in one basket.

29.) 03 Aug 2020 22:20:37
Wow I can't believe the naive comments on here, we are well past the days of Tony Adams type loyalty to a club. If you want the best players you have to pay top money, we need to offer this guy what he wants, do all we can to get him to sign. This is not an Ozil type player, Auba will deliver for us. He should only be sold if he refuses to sign. We currently have no one capable of replacing him, and how much money do you think it will take to replace his goals.

30.) 03 Aug 2020 22:23:24
Sharpie what’s up mate?

31.) 04 Aug 2020 23:02:50
Ed033, thank you. You're a gentleman and a scholar. Wait, you support Celtic, don't you? Please stop reading at thank you. Just kidding.

{Ed033's Note - no, i don't support Celtic.

32.) 04 Aug 2020 23:04:45
Hey Mala! Not much buddy. Hope you're behaving.

21 Jul 2020 22:22:37
Is the live chat always like that? Ed001, in your opinion do you rate Aubameyang as highly as lewandoski, Benzema etc?

{Ed001's Note - I don't have anything to do with the live chat sorry.

He is not even close to Lewandowski in his dreams, let alone in reality. Aubameyang's touch is not good enough to be truly top class. I don't rate him as highly as Lacazette personally.}

1.) 21 Jul 2020 23:39:42
Thank you ed, said the exact same thing. Didn’t know people can get so angry about having an opinion.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate. People only get angry if an opinion is different than their own. They don't mind you having an opinion, unless you want to have your own opinion....}

2.) 22 Jul 2020 07:35:13
The thing is dags your the one who got angry when someone else had an opinion.

3.) 22 Jul 2020 08:27:49
Mate that’s a lie, you called me a tool and said as long as your on the page I shouldn’t have an opinion. Like I said yesterday I’m willing to drop it because it’s not worth an argument.

4.) 22 Jul 2020 09:36:56
Hi DG no mate live chat isn't always like that, mostly it's light hearted banter and opinion swapping, you should get back on it Sunday mate.
As for all the keyboard macho heroics, well I have to confess when I was 11 or 12 I was a bit like that myself.

5.) 22 Jul 2020 12:36:31
DG mate come on. You refused to accept that everybody else in the chat didn't agree and share the same opinion as you and when asked to back up some of the weird and wonderful things you came out with, you couldn't provide a justifiable or logical response.
Its like me saying that Man City are rubbish. Can I back it up? No, because they aren't and we all know they're brilliant so therefore, my opinion on the matter is irrevalent.
Yes it got out of hand and it certainly shouldn't of gotten personal which was unacceptable on all parts, but sometimes people need to learn to drop it when they can't back up the complete nonsense they come out with.
No hard feelings though mate and I'm looking forward to a more mature live chat at the weekend 👍🏻.

6.) 22 Jul 2020 13:27:47
So your saying that insaid your not aloud an opinion! Don’t forget the live chat is there for all to see, insaid no such thing, I called you a tool and still will but I didn’t say your not aloud an opinion, I said nobody else is aloud an opinion when you post, well said glenn.

7.) 22 Jul 2020 15:29:22
Top rely Glen mate,

18 Jul 2020 21:49:44
I must ask, I know it's only one game, but ed001, do you still stick to that opinion of Arteta?

{Ed001's Note - one game, why ask? It is not about one game.}

1.) 18 Jul 2020 22:26:22
For me beating both Liverpool and City the best 2 teams in the country by 100 miles within 4 days of each other swings the Arteta pendulum from 50/ 50 to 60/ 40 while always being aware of the real possibility it could as easily swing back as swing further forward.

2.) 19 Jul 2020 13:22:57
Watching the game has it is being played live you really don’t realised how well they played until you start to think back over it. I’m sorry Ed001 I can’t see how we have not improved.

If you look at the 18 passes ten men touch how calm and confidently they played out from the back. Look how the 2 midfielders took turns to drop deep in the middle to support the keeper and defenders spread wide to move the opponent around. We never was that calm from the back. Even the keeper is confident and reassured. Klop and his supporters will say they were on the beach and gave us the goals but if we weren’t pressing, taking our chances and defending well we wouldn’t have won.

As Luiz said we can’t go from 0 to 100 just like, so they’re clearly relearning the basics and still believing they can win. That’s why it’s hard to see Auba not staying. The determination and courage Arteta showed to give Luiz a new contract is evidence it will be repeated at the other end of the pitch with Auba, albeit a different situation. The final decision maybe to the player but it won’t be for a lack of trying. Clearly those are the two players with the experience that proved vital in beating City one scoring the goals to win and the other ensuring we didn’t concede to lose it.

I have always said from Arsene Wenger time if Xhaka doesn’t prove to be a good player he’s playing in the wrong team and I believe he can prove to be better. If he continues as he has been recently and developed his range of passes and accuracy he’ll be on the money.

Even the Arteta is improving by playing Tierney in the back instead of Klosinac from the Tottenham game has made such a big difference.

Hi Ed, are you able to provide us with the list of incomings and outgoings for arsenal. I think I asked last week but forgot to come back to you.

{Ed002's Note - I need a few days.}

1.) 17 Jul 2020 16:00:11

I’m not sure how it’s going to work but do you think a deal could be agreed Ed for the option of negotiating for him to leave?

Also, rather than everyone continuing asking, would it be best if you maybe set a day for when you can provide us with a list of incomings? Means you won’t have to keep answering the same question mate.

{Ed002's Note - I simply do not have the time.}

{Ed002's Note - It needs someone to come in from outside. Last summer was a financial disaster when the club committed money put aside fro not being in Europe. It is a complete shambles and it is getting worse with Kia doing what he is doing. Does giving a three year contract to someone who will be 32 this coming weekend make sense. Does £24M for the one year deal for DL make sense. Does vastly overpaying for Pepe make sense?}

Hi Ed002 do you have any knowledge or opinion on the redundancies at arsenal? People are angry and saying why are we signing players then but I thought those are entirely different aspects of the club, unless I’m wrong?

{Ed002's Note - It will leave a bitter taste when Arsenal sign a player - or give Aubameyangadingdong an extra £50k a week. It is a complete disgrace of course, but the club have restructured their stadium loan as well and with the abuse of funds last summer they plan on continuing the spiral down the drain. Kia will continue what he did last year and get huge payments from the club for bringing in his players.}
