This reported by ESPN today (Honigstein) :
'The former Germany international was sent home early on each of the the two days preceding the West Ham game on the advice of the club doctor. Ozil was prescribed a dose of antibiotics to cure a severe cold that developed into a laryngitis, and attended the match as a spectator. Having recovered from his illness, Ozil has been back in full training ahead of Arsenal's trip to Cardiff City on Sunday.

There has been speculation that Emery planned to bench Ozil or play him in a different position against West Ham, but the idea that the player has lost the manager's confidence appears fanciful in light of a strong relationship that precedes the Spaniard's arrival in North London.

Half-way through last season, before the playmaker renewed his contract with Arsenal, Emery personally tried to convince Ozil to sign for his former club Paris Saint-Germain by outlining his exact tactical plans to him in a face-to-face meeting. '

Ozil is a divisive figure among fans because of his languid style but can we please put to rest the idea that he is a malingerer? We can have our own opinions but here is a journalist who's put his name to a story rubbishing that narrative.

It seemed nonsense to me, it wouldn't go down very well with whoever sanctioned breaking the bank to keep him (which must of been agreed by most of the top brass to change the wage structure so drastically) if he falls out with him after a couple games, if he then didn't plan on using him regularly I doubt they would be happy paying those wages to a bit part player they obviously expected to be essential. Surely one of his main remits has to be to get the best out of ozil.

2.) 31 Aug 2018 19:53:30
" Mesut Ozil misses today's game because of a heavy cold" headline gets neck to no hits but " Ozil storms out of training after row with Emery " headline gets lots of hits.
It doesn't take a genius to work this one out.
Mesut Ozil bashing has become a more popular pastime than sunbathing during the summer heatwave of 2018.

Should we promote Bielik to the first team for 2019-20? He's done well on loan and recently been quoted that he desires a first-team run or will explore options. I think his exact words along the lines of he won't go back to the U23s.

ArsenalCat

1.) 13 Jun 2019 16:56:36
Hes a wise young man as under 23s is definitely room 101 where few actually go on to have a top level career or any football career at all if they are still playing under 23 after 1 years old. The only way to improve is to keep playing above a level you've already mastered.

2.) 13 Jun 2019 18:13:36
I like the idea of giving him a chance. If he's not sold then he'll probably get a chance to impress during preseason.

Happily eating a plate of crow after my prediction of an ugly 4-0 loss. Professional job by the boys, hope Welbeck and Kolasinac aren't long-term injury concerns. First home shutout of Conte's PL career at Chelsea. Says something good about our fight and spirit, let's carry it forward from today.
How about David Luiz once again showing himself as a thug?

Ancelotti might be looking for work next summer if the rags are to be taken seriously. Should we consider him to replace Arsene? He's had success all over the place. Maybe Arsene would move upstairs and Carlo could take over the manager's spot?

ArsenalCat

1.) 13 Sep 2017 21:35:56
There won't be a vacancy at Arsenal next summer as Arsene has a 2 year deal as our manager.
If Arsene is going to move upstairs and run the club from there he may as well just continue for another decade in the dugout.

The only way for change to be worth its name is for Arsene to leave the club for a few years and possibly return once his dominance has gone.

2.) 14 Sep 2017 00:08:32
Fair play, probably a pipe dream especially in light of the club's history of seeing out every last moment of its employees' contracts. But question still stands, say if Ancelotti had a year's sabbatical Pep-style: suitable successor to Arsene?

3.) 14 Sep 2017 07:43:11
I would love to see Ancelloti manage us. Somehow when Wenger is finally no longer our manager I can't see him moving 'upstairs'. I have a feeling that he may manage the French national team when he eventually departs and after that he will probably be in his mid-70's, when he may wish to give something back to football by heading acadamies in under-privileged regions of the world, combined with media work.

4.) 14 Sep 2017 07:47:55
To be fair i would be delighted with Ancelotte but then again there aren't many managers I wouldn't be happy to see right now.
I would welcome change but accept it isn't going to happen for two years absolute minimum.

What's everyone think of Debuchy's place at AFC at this moment? Valuable cover? Wantaway/ surplus? Seems to me he could be a useful player in cups/ EL if healthy. You'll recall that he was a starter for France NT before he caught the Arsenal injury bug.

ArsenalCat

1.) 12 Sep 2017 16:59:15
Yes, we should use him. However, I believe he fell out with Wenger and I doubt he will play. Another misuse of funds, as we paid £12m for him, plus £4m a year in wages and I think he has played very few games for us.

2.) 12 Sep 2017 17:39:46
He's just not a good player anymore! He had that injury then belleein came good and think his career is over now. Just a series of circumstances with him. I thought at the time it was a good buy for 12m but like RG says he's turned out to be a waste of money and time.

3.) 12 Sep 2017 18:30:22
Good player gone bad. Just milking the club now and I don't understand how we still have him.

4.) 12 Sep 2017 19:03:44
Contract I think steve. If we can't sell him or get him to annul his contract then I guess we have to honour the contract much in the same way we expect a player we do want in Sanchez mate.

5.) 12 Sep 2017 20:07:09
Yeah, impression I get is he's contentedly cashing that check. Must be nice.

6.) 12 Sep 2017 20:13:49
Agree sano but I think we may get a bit more value from Sanchez.

7.) 12 Sep 2017 20:40:02
To be fair to Debuchy he was doing well until injury gave Belerin his chance which he took 100% and made himself undropable.
Debuchy joined us as a number one right back and simply lost his edge Belerin became immovable.
It's got to be hard to maintain that 100% committed mentality when you know come match day you've no chance of playing, his number 2 keepers do it I don't know, the money they earn is irrelevant as playees are only human no matter how much you pay them.

8.) 12 Sep 2017 23:16:06
I just realized that we are all in agreement on Debuchy - a rare occurrence on the page these days! Small victories! Haha.

9.) 12 Sep 2017 23:51:53
Your right steve maybe we should offer a £10000 reward in as part of the deal.

01 Sep 2017 14:35:47
What do we think of keeping Sanchez away from the senior squad until he leaves? Reports are he signed a contract with Citeh yesterday, expecting a rubber stamp from Arsenal. If true this certainly breaches his Arsenal contract, as Arsenal never formally signed off on his transfer.

Alexis's skill and motor are undeniable. Equally undeniable from the evidence, however, is his poor attitude and impetuous manner with teammates.

Sure, he wants out because of our lack of ambition. Don't blame him at all for that. It doesn't excuse the pattern that he himself has set. Makes me wonder if Barcelona wasn't quietly happy when he left in 2014.

As sucky as we are right now, top to bottom, letting him stroll right back into the XI would be a huge mistake. Of course, AFC seem to excel at huge mistakes these days.

ArsenalCat

1.) 01 Sep 2017 15:32:03
How could you possibly keep him away from the squad, that would do no good at all . Most of the players have several years on their contract left, he's hardly going to persuade them to leave .

Get him back amongst the players ASAP

As for him signing a contract with City? I doubt that very much.

2.) 01 Sep 2017 16:34:31
Banners I have to agree with the cat. I think we sell him in the jan window, to any ****er but city.
I find it amazing that teams like arsenal . city, liverpool, Chelsea.
Are pancaking on the last day.
I knew it was 31st aug.
Someone said here how we disrespected our players,!40k a week
That made me laugh. Sanchez has been taking the pee out of Arsenal for the last 6 monthes.
If he does want to train with our lads I would get bouldy to Drag him by the ear to the toilet, and make him realise what the real people do for a living.

3.) 01 Sep 2017 16:47:50
Welshgooner that's bang on. Seems players forget what it's like to work for a living at Arsenal. Then have to pay out of your hard fought wages to watch Pre-madonas who don't want to give their best to the thousands of fans who turn up to watch them walk around the pitch sulking.

4.) 01 Sep 2017 19:35:03
Separating doesn't do anything apart from making the morale worse .

He's our best player on very high wages and we will sit him on the naughty step. not the way to go IMO.

Thanks a bunch Ed, ruined my day! haha

Ouch, definitely not what I personally hoped to hear as I think he is unfairly slagged off by fans and media. Also wonder if the fans' stick has contributed to his intention to depart, if it turns out to be true.

Eds, is a PL team in the mix? Or Turkey, as has been mooted in the rags?

Thanks again.

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head I can't remember where he is going, I do remember it being abroad though.}

Eds - has Ozil decided his future after this season, whether to continue with Arsenal or move on?

ArsenalCat

{Ed001's Note - I believe he is going, maybe even in January.}

Thanks - given the lack of market for his services, is there any real chance of that happening?

ArsenalCat

{Ed002's Note - Sure. He will leave in January or the the summer.}

Thanks as always Ed, are you aware of Debuchy (still) being considered surplus? He might be of some use as the season progresses unless he/ the club have determined otherwise.

ArsenalCat

{Ed002's Note - Absolutely. After the failure of the Nice move, the screw up with Marseille and the offer of a loan to uninterested Rennes they will be happy to see him move on.}

It's possible that some business has been done but the club are waiting for Adidas deal to start on July 1 so as to drive new kit sales.

(I hit reply too soon)
Alexis’s imminent departure all but assured, even considering the opponents level it was a high-octane display.
We MUST MUST MUST extend Ozil and Wilshere. I consider them re-signing to be as critical as bringing in the much needed and repeatedly identified defensive additions and wing reinforcements.

Feeling pretty worried after seeing the team sheet guys. I'm going with 4-1. No Ozil. Alexis starts on the bench. Our back three is the best we have, and we got Bellerin and Kolasinac in their best spots.

I am highly concerned about Iwobi in the XI. Has he started a PL match yet this season, or played much at all to be honest? Looks like another lineup that's fairly stout at the back and front but weak in the middle, with guys who like to bomb into attack and leave us vulnerable to counter.

If we don't defend in a highly disciplined way we will get carved to pieces.

My prediction gives away my opinion of that likelihood.

This season Mertesacker seems to be only nominally part of the first team. 62 I don't see him playing too much at all unless there is a major injury problem. Probably better that way, his prime is well behind him and he seems injury prone himself.
