Now obviously none here will know the exact answer but I'm seeing so many varane vs white comparisons regarding the fee.

I don't understand what the debate is. One is 28 with 10 months on his contract and the other is 23 with high potential. Now I get we could argue whites fee is too high. Who knows it might still be a bargain. But is varane actually cheaper tho? It may look cheaper on paper with the fee but I can guarantee he is on a lot higher wages with a big signing on fee. I'd imagine when signings are made they look at the whole cost including contracts.

Thought some might need to consider the bigger picture of contracts and fees before worrying we've overspent.

I don't get the overspending concerns either D16, if White turns out to be as effective as Partey and Gabriel were in thier first season with us will we really be upset about his fee or his lack of impact on team performance?

On the other hand if he is an instant hit who dramatically improves us and leads us back to top 4, will we being saying " yes but I'm still not sure we should have bought him at that price "

To us fans it's Totally irrelevant how much he cost, all that matters to us rally is how he plays in Arsenal shirt.

Exactly D16.

The Varane deal equates to something like 150m.

The White deal is somewhere in the region of 75m!

It could be worse we could have paid 80 mil for Maguire.

{Ed014's Note - exactly mate, White had a great season with Leeds when they got promoted, another good season with Brighton last year and is an ever improving player.

Maguire is a donkey, not a fan of Varane who has been hiding behind Ramos for way too long and needs to prove himself in the prem next to the refrigerator.

To be fair United could sign Messi but they still have the Norwegian clown at the helm.

Potential and if is what we are relying on it seems - and 62 it does matter mate, as I’ve said before, the defence weren’t that bad last season, the 50 mill could have been spent elsewhere- I’m expecting White to hit the ground running as he’s full of PL experience. I’m hoping he’s worth it BUT I don’t see it ……. just my opinion though folks.

ED I can’t stand Maguire but after the euros I couldn’t label him as a donkey mate, he had a good tournament.

{Ed014's Note - maybe a donkey was a little harsh, “nothing special” would have sufficed.

He scored a great penalty I’ll give him that but he really doesn’t inspire me at all.

If the Euros are your criteria for 'not a donkey' Oxford you must be a big Xhaka fan!

{Ed014's Note - 😂😂

Oxford mate I may not agree but you're always entitled to your own opinion it's what makes this site great. One thing I'd like to ask you. You say the money would be better spent elsewhere because we had a good defensive record last season. Was that because the defenders were good or because we sacrificed our attacking play to be more defensive due to a lack of quality back there. Better defenders like white might mean we can attack more 👍.
