Morning Gooners

Looks like Villa are coming back with another bid for ESR, wondering what amount would tempt you to sell? £40m/ £50m?

Unless it's an absolutely obscene amount then I wouldn't sell at all. He's Arsenal future and plays we so much desire. He loves the club, he loves that he's playing 1st team football and wants to stay. Arsenal need to get that new contract signed and build a team around him like they have and will continue to do with Saka.

I think selling at any price sends the worst message possible. We are trying to rebuild, impossible to entice players if we sell our best players now. ESR has been talked about so much the past 7 months, selling him would destroy any threat of ambition.

It will be heartbreaking if one of our own is sold, unless it is his wish of course. I could accept that. The rumours keep rumbling on and it's getting more than a little concerning. Would Arsenal sell him while a new contract is on the table? I would be devastated if they did. ! @#$!

It’s an interesting one because if we are to rely on developing youth then we need to give them a chance but that youth needs to play with leaders and winners so we can compete. To do that we need to generate funds which in a self sufficient model means we sell some young stars to fund acquisitions….

At 50m I’d say sell and re-invest. At 30m I’d say keep him as you will struggle to improve on him for that amount of money and wage he’s on.

This surely was the conundrum for Wenger when we moved to the new stadium with Debt to repay and “new money” football clubs to compete with….

Hit the nail on the head Lefty mate.
Sally - don't panic. He's openly said that he wants to stay he'll sign a new contract. Watch this space.

It would be a huge mistake selling ERS as fans who are already disheartened would lose even more heart if any if ESR Martinelli Saka or Teirny were allowed to go now.

At this moment in time retaining the fab 4 is more important than any signings we could realistically make.

And the good thing is ( and a move in the right direction ) three of them are on long term deals. ESR is staycationing in Frinton or Skegness at Butlins or Pontins probably.

Let him enjoy the arcades and dodgems and he`ll sign COYG Irrational but Villa irritating me at the moment.

I’m no John Cena but the feeling I’m getting here is that most think he’s pretty much priceless to us.
In some way I do agree with you because it’s “the love story” when a junior gunner makes his way through the academy to be in the first 11 and his relationship with other academy players breaking/ broken through can only be a plus too.
But £40m for someone who is pretty much only had half a season in the 1st team and going on merit of potential is quite a sum of money.
The thing is is that he CAN be replaced with a similar fee if not less, it’s just the passion for the club which he has is priceless to me. Well let’s if he has that passion n signs the contract extension with no drama ✍🏻❤️🤍.

For me Je it's about not being seen to go backwards by letting any of our handful of players who deliver 9/ 10 times go.

Adding to those 4 is obviously never a bad thing but I think by far the most important thing is don't give fans yet another reason to throw in thier Arsenal towel and give it all up as a lost cause.

ESR cannot be sold for any amount in my opinion. Say the club accepts a £50m bid, who is there that could be bought for that amount with the potential longevity and talent that Smith-Rowe has? That's all it comes down to. There is no point in selling a player like him.

11.) 05 Jul 2021
05 Jul 2021 18:37:53
Totally agree Akie, even if we spent 100m replacing ERS, what 100m player is realistically going to want to join us right now?

We currently have very little on the competitive front to offer top players, no champions league football no obvious title challenging credentials to attract highly rated ambitious players with.

We need to up our standing in the game before we can even think about attracting top players again.

Grealish is valued at 71 m euros. Smith Rowe should be valued at least the same amount, but should NOT be sold at any price.

13.) 05 Jul 2021
05 Jul 2021 19:34:44
Another good reason not to sell to Villa is that Arsenal Villa Everton and Leeds are all in that bunch of want to be clubs looking to find a way into the top 5 again so strengthening a club at our own level while weakening ourselves would show we really had lost all ambition of any kind.

The league cup winners place now goes into the awful European C competition and only 5th place and FA cup winners now go into the once dreaded Europa league B competition.

14.) 05 Jul 2021
05 Jul 2021 20:29:19
We can ask Grealish for ESR + 15-20M; With this deal, we have a better replacement and can buy another youngster for a lesser money! Just a thought, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

{Ed002's Note - Not a chance.}

15.) 05 Jul 2021
05 Jul 2021 21:17:13
Ed is Villa looking to sell Grealish or someone else with their persistence in ESR or are they building a squad with strength in depth, sort of like England :) ?

{Ed002's Note - They are aware that there will be an offer for Grealish.}

Unless ESR wanted to go, selling him now, at any price would be a disaster IMO. We have had thousands of youngsters on our books over the recent decades who never made it with us, and many who never made it with anyone. The success rate is extremely low. So when you finally get someone come through the ranks who looks like they will be a very good player, you need to give them every chance to make it, and not flog them before they get that chance. It would send such a negative message to both our youth set up, and our fans. If ESR is a flash in the pan, or doesn’t quite live up to early promise, then we have missed out on 30-40 million, but if he does continue to build on last years performance, then 40 million will barely buy one leg!

We need Welsh to make this a balanced debate.

Maybe we could swap ESR for Aaron Ramsey Eden 🌝😎😄😂😁 that would Make Welsh really happy mate.

19.) 06 Jul 2021
06 Jul 2021 19:19:52
I would keep him, but 80m would be acceptable. Why not overprice our young stars, we paid 70m for Pepe.

20.) 07 Jul 2021
06 Jul 2021 17:15:23
Can you imagine Utd, City, Liverpool selling one of their star English youngsters to Villa?! The fact this is being discussed in the media and by us shows how far we've fallen.

07 Jul 2021 08:44:25
That's true Glen but as long as we don't sell (which I don't see happening at all) then at least it means we aren't going backwards willingly.
