With rumours of a £3m fee for Monreal, it seems odd that the reported fee was only £250,000. Thoughts?

For some strange reason we wanted him gone, makes absolutely no sense to me but time will tell as always.

Hi G62 - I have felt that both Monreal and Kolasinac had deficiencies in their game. Monreal lacked pace and Kolasinac lacks defensive ability. Hence why we signed Tierney and unless Kolasinac improves defensively I can see him being replaced in the not too distant future, maybe in one of the next two windows?

As far as selling Monreal, we bank the low sum paid, plus we get his wages off our books. I assume that Tierney will be back soon, so we have 2 options at LB.

As far as the cover Montreal provided at CB, we still have: Luiz, Sokratis, Mustafi, Holding, Mavrapanos, Chambers and at a push Medley, who clearly isn't ready to play PL level yet. Whether we play 2 or 3 CB's that is ample cover. Before people say we should have sold sold Mustafi rather than Monreal, perhaps yes, but we haven't been able to do so.

Hi RG if everything goes according to plan your 6 numbers come up you live a life of luxury but! Just on the off chance your lottery numbers don't come up you need an alternative plan to pay your way until they do come up, Tierney has had injury problems for 18 months and was injured when we bought him and even when eventually he is fit he will moving up several levels from Scottish premier to English premier league and when you take all those things into account Tierney is very unknown risky basket to place all your eggs in unnecessarily.

G62 - what a peculiar comment. The medical team will have checked Tierney and I am sure he will return fit and will be an upgrade on Monreal.

Is it the same medical team that checked Kim Kalstrom :-) .
Hopefully Tierney will be available by October and be a sensation but personally I'd have hedged my bets until it happened rather than replying on hope alone.
Just doesn't make sense to me especially when you consider we only received 70% of one week of Mesuts weekky wage in return for Nacho.

To be fair if you read his goodbye message doesn't he say about wanting to go back home. Guy just went about it in a more dignified way than someone else did.

G62 - surely even you are aware that we have changed the medical set up at the club since the Kalstrom episode.
It appears that Tierney will return after the International break, which would have influenced Emery’s decision to sell Monreal. We have two LB’s, which is normal, perhaps he has player in mind who can play in that position if necessary.
There will be a saving in wages which can go towards the cost of a signing in January. Perhaps we are looking for another left back as I recall Emery has been looking to sign a LB since he arrived as he didn’t seem convinced by either options. We may indeed replace Kolasinac, who lacks defensively.
